Abstract Teachers’ job satisfaction and the factors that contribute to it are important in the school context as theycanaffect teachers’ motivation and performance. This study aims to identify the dimensions associated with the degree of satisfaction amongbasic education teachers based on the Social Cognitive Model of Teacher Job Satisfaction and the degree of collective teacher efficacy. This study applied quantitative research methods to a sample of 495 basic education teachers within a network of private schools in three Brazilian states. The results indicate that positive affect and life satisfaction were the factors most strongly associated with job satisfaction. There was no association between efficacy beliefs (self-efficacy and collective efficacy) and job satisfaction. Elementary school teachers had the most negative perceptions of teaching. Specific aspectsof the school environment, such as a lack of student discipline, may have contributed to this result.

Environmental sustainability focuses on protecting environmental resources such as water, land, forests and biodiversity, among others. The relationship between human beings and nature is essential. Human beings need a healthy productive life without undermining the environmental needs of present and future generations. Social communities ought to develop their economy making intellectual decisions pertaining to the management of their natural resources so as not to compromise the needs of future generations. The study sought to establish the effectiveness of the approach used in teaching environmental education in secondary schools in Kenya by investigating the cognition of first year university students about environmental concerns and their effects. Qualitative research methodology was used. The techniques used to generate data were interviews and audio-recording. Findings revealed that respondents lacked cognition about how human beings negatively affect the environment and the challenges experienced by them as a result of the negative effects. The approach used in teaching environmental education in secondary schools in Kenya is not effective. It goes against the principle of using the preventive approach to protect the environment through education. It is essential to develop appropriate policies and reform the curriculum in basic education to enable learners to move from nature appreciation and awareness to education for an ecologically sustainable future. Environmental Education can be used as a context of integration for learning with other subjects including English Language Teaching.

Background: One of the challenges in pedagogical practice in science in the initial years of elementary school (EF) is focused on developing objects of knowledge with an emphasis on scientific literacy. Objective: To investigate how the pedagogical practices of teachers of the 1st and 2nd grades of the elementary school contribute to promoting access and the development of scientific knowledge to educate a scientifically literate individual. Design: Ethnographic case study, through triangulation of data in a qualitative research perspective. Setting and Participants: Seven basic education women teachers who work in three different schools in the municipality of Vera Cruz/RS participated. Data collection: Observation and description in a logbook, questionnaires and interviews with teachers, as well as one student’s notebook and the official school document (Pedagogical Political Project). Results: The promotion of subsidies for access and mediation of scientific knowledge in teaching actions, although a significant portion of teachers has little corroborated the education of a scientifically literate individual. Conclusions: There must be actions aimed at continuing teacher education to favour significant school environment changes.

Objective: to evaluate the perception of elementary school teachers about first aid produced in the school context. Method: A descriptive, exploratory, qualitative approach developed in a municipal school system with 15 teachers. Recorded interviews were transcribed and then processed, analyzed by the Descending Hierarchical Classification. The findings were based on Ogden and Richards' Theory of Meaning. Results: Five classes were obtained: "Gaps in perception about first aid"; "Perception of urgency and emergency in school"; "Acting in the face of an urgent and emergency situation", "Training of professionals in first aid in school" and "Risk inherent to the school environment". Conclusion: The perception about first aid is based on their own daily experiences, the speeches still reflect the professionals' insecurities in acting in the face of a real need.

Objective: to analyze teachers’ conceptions about transgenderity in childhood and to identify the possibilities and limits of working with these children in the school context. Method: a qualitative research study, carried out with 23 teachers from two municipal elementary schools. Semi-structured interviews were used to produce empirical material. As an analytical resource, the content analysis technique, thematic modality, was used. Results: six thematic categories emerged in the set of empirical material: There is transgenderity in childhood; The construction of gender identity and roles in childhood; The experience of trans children in the school context; Trans children: How to deal with?; Discussing the differences in the classroom: Is this the way?; and Dilemmas of school and family interaction. It was found that the gender dichotomy is reinforced in the classroom, causing tensions and stereotyped divisions for male and female roles. Various forms of violence have been reproduced by classmates and teachers, who, due to lack of knowledge or to unpreparedness, reinforce concepts and attitudes that lead to the maintenance of exclusion. Conclusion: the schools find it difficult to promote the inclusion of trans children. It is necessary to create strategies aimed at raising awareness and training the professionals who make up the school environment, especially teachers in the initial grades.

The declining quality of the environment lately requires a change in human’s environmental value and behavior. This change can be achieved through environmental education in schools. Indonesia has recently promoted the Adiwiyata school program to encourage environmental education. This study aims to reveal the dimensions of value (NEP) and behavior (GEB) that occur in students at Adiwiyata school and explain the relationship between the two to evaluate the extent to which Adiwiyata's concepts can interfere with students' thought patterns and behavior. Through principal component analysis and factor analysis, six dimensions of student’s NEP were found in Adiwiyata Elementary School, respectively: "Destructive Interventions", "Conservative Interventions", "Exploitation of Nature", "Environmental Education", "Sustainable Environments", and "Environmental Insights". Besides, four dimensions of student’s GEB were found at Adiwiyata Elementary School, respectively: "Pro-Environmental Attitudes (Individual)", "Pro-Environmental Attitudes (Group)", "Waste of Natural Resources & Energy", and "Efficiency of Natural Resources & Energy". Furthermore, correlation analysis shows that these values and behavior tend to only be realized in the school environment.

This paper seeks to access the stated knowledge about the practices and challenges faced by teachers and educators in the activities of plastic and visual expression in Primary Education in Portugal. As teacher training is nowadays organized in two cycles of higher education: a first cycle of initial training in basic education and a second cycle of specialized training with emphasis on supervised teaching practices, we tried to study some reports of these practices, made to obtain the Master's degree. In these reports, future teachers present the activities implemented in the school context as well as the teaching-learning procedures and strategies developed with elementary school students with the integration of different curricular areas.
