AbstractIt is undeniable that English is an important international language and there could be some background variables influencing English proficiency. Therefore, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta as the context of the study regulates that all students take an English proficiency test once they are accepted and must achieve 450 for non-English departments and 500 for English studies before they graduate. Having 12 faculties of Islamic and non-Islamic studies, it is interesting to measure whether faculty as a background variable matters. In addition, female as another background variable has been widely found to have better achievement in language, and therefore this study is also intended to investigate whether gender is a contributing factor to students’ English proficiency. The population was all students of UIN Jakarta year 2017, which data of 5089 students’ English proficiency scores, faculties, and gender were collected through the information technology center. The descriptive analysis reveals that the lowest score is 240 while that highest one is 570 and the mean score is 383. The ANOVA analysis reports significant differences among faculties: the Faculty of Medicine achieves the highest score (M = 429) while the Faculty of Ushuluddin attains the lowest (M = 365). In addition, female students, as yielded by t-test analysis, are found to have significantly higher English proficiency score. The findings implies the need to pay more attention to Islamic-related faculties having lower scores and to consider English proficiency score as an enrolment requirement especially for the faculty of Medicine. How to Cite : Azkiyah, S.,N. The purpose of this paper is to conduct an exploratory investigation on the level of operations management best practices.  A sample random t-test analysis was used upon a high technology company that was selected based on simple random sampling from government agency directory. After various attempts, 72 out of 138 are providing feedback. However, only 34 can be used, the rest did not answer completely. Descriptive analysis and t-test analysis were performed on 34 completed feedbacks. Six factors in the form of quality commitment, customer focus, formalization of performance measurement, people management, process management and technology management were examined as predictors for operations management best practices. Findings indicated that the mean value is more than 3 for all dimensions. Furthermore, most cases are significant as the selected samples are high technology based companies and their workers are knowledgeable in terms of operations management best practices.

A mastery in Engineering Science Course is closely related to the physics subjects in schooling which involve problem solving techniques including mathematical skills. Engineering Science Course is considered difficult and complicated that need to be understood since there are many concepts to understand, especially for students who do not take science courses in school. Mastery of a course is closely linked to academic achievement that has a great impact on student achievement. Thus, a study was conducted to identify factors that influence student’s performance in the Engineering Science Course at Politeknik Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin (PSMZA). A total of 179 respondents from four departments; Department of Civil Engineering (JKA), Department of Electrical Engineering (JKE), Department of Mechanical Engineering (JKM) and Department of Mathematical Science & Computer (JMSK) were involved in this study. The analysis of the study was done using descriptive statistics, T-test and Pearson Correlation using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 23. Analysis of the result shows that environment was the main driving force with the mean value of 4.31 being the highest score compared to existing knowledge factors, interests, attitudes, lecturers and peers. T-test analysis also found that there was a significant relationship between attitude and gender differences. Pearson Correlation’s analysis found that the relationship between lecturers and interests was average and significant. While peers, environment and interest were strongly related, but significant. It is hoped that the findings of this study will help to provide an overview of the factors that influence student performance in the Engineering Science Course at PSMZA. This will also help JMSK to take preventive measures and improve all aspects of its efforts to improve student performance in the Engineering Science Course at PSMZA.

The study examines the Psycho-demographic factors predisposing school adjustment among In-school adolescents in Osun state, Nigeria. The study adopted a descriptive design of correlational type. A Sample of three hundred In-school adolescents were selected using a multi-stage sampling technique. Data collected were analyzed using Pearson Product Moment Correlation, T-test and Multiple regression analysis. Results indicated School adjustment positively correlated with peer pressure (r= .461, p< 0.05), emotional instability (r = .665, p<0.05) while school adjustment is negatively correlated with gender (r= -.332, p<0.05). All the independent variables jointly accounted for 48.5% variance in predicting school adjustment among In-school adolescents. Two out of three predictors (emotional stability and gender) are potent predictors of school adjustment. The most potent factor was emotional stability (β = .591, t= 11.611, P<0.05), followed by gender (β = -.205, t= -4.757, P<0.05 except peer pressure (β = .062, t= 1.198, P>0.05) which is not a potent predictor of school adjustment.  This implies that, an increased influence of emotional stability will increase school adjustment by 59.1% and gender will increase school adjustment by 20.5%. Also, the T-test analysis reveal a significant difference in the school adjustment of male and female; t (298) = 6.081, p<0.05.
