Introduction. In traditional culture, wedding clothing is distinguished by its multifunctionality and attractiveness, as it is meant to reflect significant social changes. In a Mari wedding clothing, robes have always played a particular role of an indicator of belonging to the community. The robe’s design and decorative features played a role of a marker. Materials and Methods. The research is based on the collections of the Russian Museum of Ethnography, which has an archive of wedding caftans of the Hill and Meadow Mari, as well as a great deal of written and field sources (2010 – 2018). Results and Discussion. The article differentiates male’s and female’s wedding caftans, underlines their basic local distinctive decor features. The colour serves as the main criterion. Apart from that, there are some distinctive features in the caftans’ back part and breast area. The article singles out highly and least decorated parts of the wedding caftan, takes a look at various materials served as a basis for decoration of the most important areas of the item. The paper highlights the most “alteration-proof” parts of the caftan and underlines the features of the wedding clothing. Conclusion. A study of this clothing item is of great significance in terms of the research of changes in the Mari traditional ceremonial clothes, because as field research in the region has proved, the color of the wedding caftan keeps on varying depending on local customs and remains to be a criterion of the group’s identity.

Abstract Folklorism is presented as a component of culture change. The aim of the article is to show how ethno- and musicologists, folklorists, music teachers, broadcasters, and others, have influenced traditional peasant culture in times of fundamental transformation during the 20th century, and how they have contributed to its documentation, understanding and invention of new meanings, including the Polishness of folklore in Poland. This review aims to exemplify this process. Each European country has its own history in this respect. The text consists of three parts. In the first one, folklore is confronted with social history; the second one is dedicated to generations of ethnomusicologists; the third one is dedicated to contemporary functions of music traditions and the role of ethnomusicologists, with emphasis on applied ethnomusicology. The comments on applied ethnomusicology summarise the author’s experiences acquired during field research in Poland since 1975 and attempt to demonstrate how the past (of traditional culture and music, including re/invented national values) is being transformed in the present or, rather, how history fuses with the present time.

Among the distinctive features that distinguish the ethnographic group of Ukrainians – Hutsuls, along with original clothing, customs and dialect is dance. The world-famous dance "Arkan" captivates the audience with its energy of performance and colorfulness. Hutsul dances impress with their large number and content, variety, magical and ritual significance has convinced researchers of their spiritual raging power. During the historical development, ethnographic regions have created their own layer of traditional culture. Throughout the calendar-ritual year, Hutsuls formed customs and rituals that had a symbolic and sometimes magical character – Christmas carols, Easter farewells, green holidays, Ivan Kupala, and more. Family and household rites, which are characterized by archaic character and high spirituality, are filled with bright colors. The article raises the issue of finding folklore for the art center, and directing the creation of works of art for their revival and formation of national expression. The significance of the cultural peculiarities of the Hutsul region in the creative activity of the leading Ukrainian artists (choreographers in general), who provide a personification of their contribution to the development of choreographic heritage today, is also determined. The freedom of the mountaineers and the peculiarities of the geographical location allowed them to choose an extraordinary individuality, their way of life, traditions, all these rivers give boundless space for artistic and scientific research, which allows us to characterize the Hutsuls as a culturally rich ethnic group of Ukraine.

The city of Jambi Seberang has returned to the government's attention in urban development. Religious issues become an interesting theme when there is an external culture that begins to influence local culture in Jambi Seberang. The strong traditional culture that develops in an area, of course, there are influences from very diverse external cultures. This field research is about the religious awareness of the community in Kelurahan Olak Kemang and Kelurahan Ulu Gedong. With the analytical descriptive method, this research attempts to describe the data as it is obtained from the field. From the data analysis, it is known that the level of religious awareness in the community in Olak Kemang and Ulu Gedong villages is quite high. This can be seen in the pattern of their lives that highly uphold Islamic religious values as has been done by previous scholars. The high level of religious awareness in the community of Olak Kemang and Ulu Gedong villages is inseparable from the role of ulama, and two social institutions in the form of madrasah and places of worship. Even though the level of religious awareness in the community is quite high, one must be aware of the idea of reform in religion in Jambi Seberang, which has suffered damage due to errors regarding different interpretations.

The sustainability of rural development, both economic and environmental, has been increasingly linking to local food, which plays an indispensable role by preserving traditional culture, attracting tourists, and supporting the regional economy. However, the authenticity and quality of local food have not been fully convinced as competitive advantages by most practitioners. Little is known about how authenticity affects quality attributes, tourist satisfaction, and tourist loyalty. Thus, this study examines the role of authenticity in the quality–satisfaction–loyalty framework. The field research was performed in Shunde County, Guangdong Province, China. The results challenge the traditional view of quality attributes by highlighting that authenticity is a key antecedent to the quality–satisfaction–loyalty framework of food tourism. In contrast, the relationships among quality attributes, tourist satisfaction, and tourist loyalty are contingent on the extent to which food tourists perceive the authenticity of rural local food.

This exploratory study focuses on the role of the university in supporting sustainable development in rural areas, focusing on small wine producers, particularly those located in remote and disadvantaged areas. Disadvantaged areas have distinctive features. Firstly, they are fragile areas from a sociodemographic point of view because of population ageing. Secondly, they are unstable from an environmental (physical, eco-systemic) point of view, as a consequence of insufficient maintenance of their seminatural capital. University–business cooperation with companies located in those areas thus needs to be designed by considering the specific characteristic of the place. Therefore, this exploratory study sought to understand how the university can work with small wineries and support them and their rural area to face inequalities and low growth, and foster social innovation. We present a case study based on field research in Italy. The results—based on the analysis of 26 semistructured interviews with small wine producers—are discussed by exploring the potential form of cooperation between rural stakeholders and universities, beyond the concept of knowledge transfer. Conclusions highlight the need for the university to act as a facilitator of dialogue at a territorial level, as a first step toward to formulation of shared sustainable goals.
