A case study in manufacturing giant attempts to capture how potential effectiveness of a role is psychologically tuned along ten dimensions on which efficacy of an employee is defined. Further, how position, age and tenure of employment interact with role efficacy. A combination of quantitative and qualitative approach is followed, where n=28. Managers are seen as leaders and act like role models for the subordinates. Further, managers are high on helping relationship. Both see an opportunity for personal growth in their role. Self- role integration is lesser in managers than subordinates. Subordinates are found to be more reactive. Confrontation is greater for subordinates than managers. Elders are strong on dimensions common to achievers and youngest seems to have politics. Longer tenures exhibits more helping attitude and more confrontation than with smaller tenures. Thus, the dynamism between position, age and tenure seems to have an effect on role-efficacy.

Abstract This study examines the importance of cultivating the religious behavior of grhastha ashrama in Sukawati Village based on Tri Hita Karana, founded on the local wisdom inherited from the ancestors. In today’s era of everything instant and pragmatic, certain people’s behaviors deviate from the religious teachings because of the weakening of sradha, or understanding and belief in the teachings of their religion. Thus, it is feared that social anxiety and conflicts will occur in various aspects of life. Tri Hita Karana is one of the local wisdoms of Balinese people which acts as a policy, knowledge and local intelligence that can be used as a reference to cultivate the religious behavior of grhastha ashrama. Grhastha ashrama are defined as krama desa elders, who serves as role models for the community and the younger generation. Tri Hita Karana values must be observed by maintaining harmony with others and with the natural environment. The purpose of this study is to provide scientific description and explanation of the importance of Tri Hita Karana ideology in cultivating the religious behavior of grhastha ashrama, as a catalyst for development of the village community, by preserving the culture to conserve the agricultural environment, because Balinese culture cannot be separated from agricultural life. This study was conducted with case study approach as one variant of the qualitative approach. Data collection was conducted by the techniques of interview, observation, literature, and documentation study. The findings of this study state that the grhastha ashrama tend to display hard working attitude to make ends meet and follow the latest trends. Likewise, krama feel the increasing burden to make ends meet, especially the cost of preserving art and culture that are very expensive. This seems to influence the habits of the Sukawati people who are famed for their enthusiasm in performing art and culture and tend to ignore the religious behavior based on the ideology of Tri Hita Karana.

The family described in this article provides an unusual opportunity to relate findings from genetic, histological, electrophysiological, psychophysical, and rehabilitative investigation. Although the total number evaluated is large (49), the known, living affected population is smaller (14), and these are spread from age 20 to age 59. As a result, the findings described above are those of a large-scale case study. Clearly, more data will be available through longitudinal study of the individuals documented in the course of this investigation but, given the slow nature of the progression in this disease, such studies will be undertaken after an interval of several years. The general picture presented to the audiologist who must rehabilitate these cases is that of a progressive cochlear degeneration that affects only thresholds at first, and then rapidly diminishes speech intelligibility. The expected result is that, after normal language development, the patient may accept hearing aids well, encouraged by the support of the family. Performance and satisfaction with the hearing aids is good, until the onset of the speech intelligibility loss, at which time the patient will encounter serious difficulties and may reject hearing aids as unhelpful. As the histological and electrophysiological results indicate, however, the eighth nerve remains viable, especially in the younger affected members, and success with cochlear implantation may be expected. Audiologic counseling efforts are aided by the presence of role models and support from the other affected members of the family. Speech-language pathology services were not considered important by the members of this family since their speech production developed normally and has remained very good. Self-correction of speech was supported by hearing aids and cochlear implants (Case 5’s speech production was documented in Perkell, Lane, Svirsky, & Webster, 1992). These patients received genetic counseling and, due to the high penetrance of the disease, exhibited serious concerns regarding future generations and the hope of a cure.

AbstractDespite earning half of all science and engineering undergraduate degrees between 2007 and 2016 in the USA, women were awarded only 39% of earth science degrees in the same time period. In order to better understand why women are both choosing and staying in geology programs, we conducted a multi-case study of nine current female undergraduate geology majors at a large public university in the USA within a department that is at gender parity among its undergraduate majors. The main data source was audio-recorded critical incident interviews of each participant. Data from the interviews were analyzed through an iterative coding process using codes adapted from previous studies that focused on factors both internal and external to the department. The students said that personal interests, influence by others outside of the department, and introductory classes attracted them to the geology program, but once declared, departmental factors such as relationship with faculty caused them to stay. We also found an emphasis on female role models, especially those teaching introductory courses. We believe this study offers important insights into the ways in which factors leading to recruitment and retention play out in the lived experiences of female geology majors.
