Role-play is a holistic pedagogy in teaching. The technique instills critical thinking in pupils, enhances emotional intelligence, and improves morality and forms of realism about information. The chapter examines the influence of role-play teaching technique on English performance among the pupils with hearing impairment in Kenyan primary schools. The chapter looks at several elements of role-playing such as games, real-life expression, imitation, positive impact, and the challenges facing the effective implementation of the use of role-play in teaching and learning in primary schools of learners with hearing impairment. This study is a desktop review and only relies on secondary materials. The literature was sourced in various databases. The review revealed that role-play improves the self-efficacy of the learner since the technique is grounded in reality. Learning is enhanced when the activities involved are memorable and engaging.

Gamification is an innovative teaching technique that may prove hugely beneficial when properly used. For this reason, since 2002, the number of situations in which gamification is used has increased exponentially. This large number of options makes it difficult to choose the best application, especially in circumstances where there is the usual uncertainty that real-life decision making involves. To address this problem, this study creates two models, one using a fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (AHP), and the other, which combines fuzzy AHP with the measuring attractiveness by a categorical-based evaluation technique (MACBETH) approach, to choose the best gamification application for the ‘Operations Management’ course, within the Masters in Industrial Engineering. This is the first contribution in the literature combining fuzzy AHP and MACBETH. The decision centre used was the lecturer who teaches the course. There is no precedent in the literature using fuzzy logic to choose the best gamification application for a course. The results of the study show that Socrative is the best gamification application for this course within the Masters, and, as the models begin to be used in degree courses, the better choice would be Quizizz, the more clearly the earlier the course is taught within the degree programme.

Abstract The article focuses on worldwide freelancers’ stories as explanatory resources in understanding their reasons to embrace or not an entrepreneurial career in the future. It draws upon a qualitative study related on the motivations, benefits and risks of moving from freelancing to an entrepreneurial career, where participants to the survey freely expressed their perceptions, based on their genuine experiences. Data collected during the online survey have been analyzed with NVivo12 software. This qualitative analysis software allowed us to cluster the narratives of freelancers, based on the similarity of words contained in content, on the one hand, and provided a deeper understanding of sentiments related to freelancers’ intention to turn entrepreneurs, on the other hand. Following two principles: „No need to invent or reinvent yourself” and „Real life truths have the most impact”, freelancers who accepted our invitation to the survey highlighted their visions regarding the future career paths, providing an approach to understand their choice to become or not entrepreneurs. Freelancers’ career path can be more comprehensively described, understood and communicated using their stories, so storytelling has been considered the single methodology appropriate to this study objectives. Practical implications of this qualitative research, its limitations and further research avenues are also highlighted.

For this, in the first place we contrast education with Pedagogy, clarifying that education refers to the set of worldviews passed from one generation to the other, as Pedagogy approaches more of an art that aims at transforming in act a transposition of knowledge that unfolds in those knowledge about teaching and learning. Second, we point out that, because they are art, when teaching and learning become objects of study, their realities are limited and particular, preventing any universalization of method and methodology. From this we can see the importance that Qualitative Research acquires when we operate it. However, its choice involves a principle and some postures of the researcher, in order to assert the characteristics that Qualitative Research has the best. Keywords: Qualitative research. Education.
