The aim of this study was to investigate practices of health professionals for users undergoing violence from perspective of comprehensive care. This study was based on a qualitative and descriptive research on graduate-level and technical health professionals who work in the Family Health Strategy programme in a northeastern municipality of Rio Grande do Sul. Data were collected by means of semi-structured interviews and analyzed using thematic mode. Results showed that these professionals do not utilize comprehensiveness to guide their care practices with users undergoing violence. Instead, they still work according to the biomedical model in which intervention is based on referring care to other sectors and the treatment plan. The study highlights the need for more appropriation and further discussion on practices regarding violence guided by the principle of comprehensiveness within the Family Healthcare team.

ABSTRACT Objective: To verify how socialization of nurses in the Family Health Strategy (FHS) influences their professional identity. Method: Exploratory, descriptive research, whose theoretical-methodological framework was dialectical hermeneutics, anchored in the premises of the Sociology of Professions. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with 27 nurses from the FHS of the city of São Paulo. The resulting empirical material was subjected to Discourse Analysis. Results: The choice for Nursing was influenced by previous knowledge of the profession and by the affinity with care. Socialization was not limited to what was absorbed, including the search for an individual professional identity and collective sharing. Final considerations: Nursing care is built in daily practice, mobilizing the nurse for an action that includes herself, the relationship with the other and the conditions in which the work is performed, opening the opportunity for identity reconstruction, consistent with the concreteness of the work.

Background. Family communication facilitates coping from a genetic condition by ensuring accurate understanding of the illness, its inheritance pattern, associated recurrence risks and risk perception. Objective. This paper explores Filipino mothers’ experience in communicating information about congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) to their children. Methods. Descriptive qualitative design was used. Families affected with CAH were recruited via a CAH support group. Semi-structured interviews with mothers were done on the following topics: content and understanding of information communicated, reasons for communicating, and changes and adjustments in the family. Thematic analysis was used to analyze the data. Results. Five families consisting of 11 individuals, including four mothers, were interviewed. Findings revealed that while mothers are open to communicate with their child about CAH, this is often triggered by questions from the child. Mothers find it challenging to discuss about the condition and when they do discuss, this is most often done to facilitate better understanding among the siblings. There is an attempt to explain the inheritance of CAH but this is also limited to the mother’s understanding. Conclusion. The findings of the study provide guidance to health professionals on how they can support parents, particularly mothers, in discussing CAH with their children.

This work is the result of the doctoral thesis entitled Pilgrimage of Bom Jesus da Lapa: Social Reproduction of the Family and Female Gender Identity, specifically the second chapter that talks about women in the Pilgrimage of Bom Jesus da Lapa, emphasizing gender relations, analyzing the location of the pilgrimage as a social reproduction of the patriarchal family and female gender identity. The research scenario is the Bom Jesus da Lapa Pilgrimage, which has been held for 329 years, in that city, located in the West part of Bahia. The research participants are pilgrim women who are in the age group between 50 and 70 years old and have participated, for more than five consecutive years in the Bom Jesus da Lapa Pilgrimage, belonging to five Brazilian states (Bahia, Minas Gerais, São Paulo, Espírito Santo and Goiás) that register a higher frequency of attendance at this religious event. We used bibliographic, qualitative, field and documentary research and data collection as our methodology; we applied participant observation and semi-structured interviews as a technique. We concluded that the Bom Jesus da Lapa Pilgrimage is a location for family social reproduction and the female gender identity, observing a contrast in the resignification of the role and in the profile of the pilgrim women from Bom Jesus da Lapa, alternating between permanence and the transformation of gender identity coming from patriarchy.
