The article presents an analysis of scientific heritage of the biologist Antoni Andrzejowski (1785–1869), whose name is well known in Ukraine and abroad as a naturalist and a scientist. Antoni Andrzejowski had been cooperating with V. Besser for many years and accompanied him in his trips, he was the first botanist in Kremenets that was born in Volyn, and, at the same time, the first who graduated from the Kremenets Lyceum. His contribution to botanical, zoological, palaeontological, and geological sciences is also recognised, in particular he authored the first geological map of Podillia. The scientist is known primarily for pioneering research on plant diversity: together with W. Besser, he initiated the floristic study of Volyno-Podillia and the Right-Bank Ukraine. He was a traveller, a researcher of the flora, fauna (both modern and fossil) and geology of Podillia, Polissia, the Dnieper, and the Black Sea, as well as the author of a number of original scientific works. During his numerous trips, he collected a variety of scientific materials, including a herbarium, most of which is stored at M. G. Kholodny Institute of Botany NAS of Ukraine. As a taxonomist, he described more than 250 new taxa of vascular plants from 37 families (Brassicaceae, Asteraceae, Boraginaceae Rosaceae, Chenopodiaceae, Lamiaceae, etc.). As an expert of flora and landscape art, A. Andrzejowski took part in the creation of parks (primarily within estates in Podillia), some of which have survived (e.g., in Stavyshche, Kyiv Oblast), but most of them have been lost. A. Andrzejowski almost constantly combined his research activities with pedagogical work: he taught pupils and students of the Volynian Gymnasium (Kremenets Lyceum), St Volodymyr Imperial University of Kyiv, and the Prince Bezborodko Physical and Mathematical Lyceum of Nizhyn. He belonged to the Vilna-Kremenets Scientific School with the classical traditions of an integrated approach to the study of nature. Most of the biography and various aspects of A. Andrzejowski’s activity are discussed in numerous studies, including some of our previous publications. His preserved scientific heritage, in particular botanical works and herbarium collections, also have not escaped the attention of scientists.

The purpose of the article is to assess the level of involvement of faculty, postgraduate students and students in research work of department and to suggest mechanisms for enhancing their participation in research on the basis of monitoring the activities of heads of departments. Methodical approaches. The object of the study were 350 heads of departments of 24 higher educational institutions in different regions of Russia. Subject of research – the level of involvement of faculty, postgraduate students and students in the research work of university departments. For monitoring, a special questionnaire was proposed to the department heads. Results. The results of the monitoring of the organization of research work in Russian universities have shown that over the past ten years, the research activities of faculty, postgraduate students and students have increased significantly. This is evidenced by the growing number of departments whose faculty regularly engage in research work. Their number currently stands at 79,1% (in 2003 there were only 67,9% of such departments). The interviewed heads of departments noted that the main forms of faculty research are: the publication of scientific articles (92,3%), the publication of monographs (72,3%), participation in research (70,0%), preparation of applications for participation in grants and program competitions (62,6%). However, among the negative aspects of the organization of research work at the departments, the fact should be noted that 45,6% of the surveyed department heads hardly find time for research work with students, and 3,6% do not conduct any research with students at all. The mechanisms of activating the involvement of faculty, postgraduate students and students in the effective research work of the department are proposed, such as: the organization of scientific seminars for faculty; postgraduate seminars (Schools of young scientists for postgraduate students, as well as for master’s and undergraduate students within the framework of student self-government structures); increased participation of faculty in grant competitions and in contracting with enterprises; increasing of faculty publication activity due to the preparation of monographs and scientific articles and participation in scientific conferences; intensification of students’ research work (scientific circles, participation in contests and conferences, publications). The use of the proposed mechanisms for managing the research work of the department will help to enhance the publication activity of faculty, encourage the development of extracurricular work with students; increase the number of grants won and research conducted.

Adolescent drug addiction in Ukraine is a serious problem that requires proper attention and evaluation from modern society. Timely public reaction to this issue determines the methods of its solution and ways to prevent adolescent drug addiction in Ukraine in the future. The urgency of the subject matter is determined by the danger of drug addiction among Ukrainian adolescents and the lack of attention paid by parents to the study of this problem and the lack of proper attention to this issue in most Ukrainian schools. Prospects for research in this area are determined by the need to identify the main social and psychological aspects that motivate modern Ukrainian adolescents to use drugs. This will allow to redirect the situation and create conditions to prevent a situation in society where drug use by Ukrainian adolescents would be possible. The purpose of the study is to identify the dominant psychological and social factors that motivate adolescents to start using drugs. Materials and methods. The main research method is the method of analysis, which was used to comprehensively consider and describe the factors that push young people to use drugs, despite the obvious threat to their health and life. Authors consider issues of social and psychological aspects of adolescent drug addiction, problems of relations in society and families where adolescents begin to use drugs. The study covers the types of family relations and the nature of intra-family relations, in which adolescents start using drugs. Conclusion. The main social and psychological factors that push modern young people to take drugs are identified. In the course of this study, conclusions were drawn about the significant role of existing problems in modern Ukrainian families, where children begin to use drugs early. Preventive conversations in schools, other educational institutions and at home are effective tools in the fight against adolescent drug addiction. Competitions in various sports among teenagers and mass cross-country races also have pronounced influence. The practical value of the study in this area is to identify and state opportunities to create methods to combat adolescent drug addiction and the complete elimination of the harmful effects of drugs on modern Ukrainian schoolchildren

The scientific relevance of this topic is due to the fact that the family, as a unit of modern society, acts as the fundamental basis of the state’s social and legal policy, is one of the criteria for increasing the level of family values in terms of raising children, improving the so-called “parental” institution, and promoting the importance of family life. The fundamental indicator of the socio-legal development of the Russian Federation at the present stage is the guarantee of the safety of children and adolescents. In turn, this is a manifestation of the preventive function of the state in the person of the relevant internal affairs bodies. Understanding the essence of law enforcement preventive activities has an important purpose, since the task of preventing delinquency among adolescents must be systematically effective. Otherwise, it makes no sense to actively work in the search for effective means in the fight against antisocial manifestations. The need to strengthen preventive measures of educational impact is increasing every day. The child must be aware and feel the protection of his constitutional rights and freedoms. Scientific studies have shown the need for legal education of children through the state mechanism of influence, taking into account the characteristics of educational institutions, age qualification and home conditions in which the child is brought up. In this case, the positive dynamics will be observed only by the integrated approach of all state bodies represented by the three branches of government (legislative, executive and judicial), using the experience of the European powers with the subsequent unification of international law.
