The purpose of the article is to assess the level of involvement of faculty, postgraduate students and students in research work of department and to suggest mechanisms for enhancing their participation in research on the basis of monitoring the activities of heads of departments. Methodical approaches. The object of the study were 350 heads of departments of 24 higher educational institutions in different regions of Russia. Subject of research – the level of involvement of faculty, postgraduate students and students in the research work of university departments. For monitoring, a special questionnaire was proposed to the department heads. Results. The results of the monitoring of the organization of research work in Russian universities have shown that over the past ten years, the research activities of faculty, postgraduate students and students have increased significantly. This is evidenced by the growing number of departments whose faculty regularly engage in research work. Their number currently stands at 79,1% (in 2003 there were only 67,9% of such departments). The interviewed heads of departments noted that the main forms of faculty research are: the publication of scientific articles (92,3%), the publication of monographs (72,3%), participation in research (70,0%), preparation of applications for participation in grants and program competitions (62,6%). However, among the negative aspects of the organization of research work at the departments, the fact should be noted that 45,6% of the surveyed department heads hardly find time for research work with students, and 3,6% do not conduct any research with students at all. The mechanisms of activating the involvement of faculty, postgraduate students and students in the effective research work of the department are proposed, such as: the organization of scientific seminars for faculty; postgraduate seminars (Schools of young scientists for postgraduate students, as well as for master’s and undergraduate students within the framework of student self-government structures); increased participation of faculty in grant competitions and in contracting with enterprises; increasing of faculty publication activity due to the preparation of monographs and scientific articles and participation in scientific conferences; intensification of students’ research work (scientific circles, participation in contests and conferences, publications). The use of the proposed mechanisms for managing the research work of the department will help to enhance the publication activity of faculty, encourage the development of extracurricular work with students; increase the number of grants won and research conducted.

The research-teaching nexus is an important factor in the enhancement of the quality of teaching and learning in higher education institutions. The purpose of the study was to explore undergraduate students’ awareness and experiences of research in one faculty at Sohar University, Oman. Data were gathered from 240 undergraduate students using an online survey. Overall, results indicated that while there was good evidence of students’ awareness and experiences of research, less than half of the students in the sample were aware of or had experienced important research activities. Some students reported advantages arising from their participation in research—including developing research skills and gaining new knowledge. They also reported the need for more hands-on research experience and instructor support. Some findings were generally consistent with the literature on students’ awareness and experiences of research. The study provided important implications for the research-teaching nexus at Sohar University.

Research Paper Writing (RPW) plays a key role in completingall research work. Poor writing could lead to the postponement of publications. Therefore, it is necessary todevelop a program of (RPW) to improve RPW ability for EFL/ESL writers, especially for undergraduate students in Higher Education (HE) institutions, which has caught less attention of curriculum developers so far. Therefore, this studyaims to determine the core components of (RPW) program perceived as essential for EFL/ESL undergraduate studentsusing Process Genre Approach (PGA) to develop a program of RPW. The Delphi Technique (DT) was used to validate those components through the interviews of experts including two boards of ten experienced and qualified lecturers of TESOL and curriculum studies in Can Tho University (CTU) in Vietnam and UniversitiSains Malaysia (USM). The results revealed that the corecomponents of RPW programfor EFL/ESL undergraduate students were determined and confirmed. This paper is therefore believed to make a great contribution to practical applications for RPW program developers, lecturers, undergraduate and postgraduate students in EFL/ESL contexts.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to find the interest in research among the undergraduate students of medical and dental colleges of Pakistan. Study Design: Cross-sectional study. Setting: Amongst the students of four medical institutes. Period: April to May 2018. Material & Methods: Sample size was 500 of undergraduate MBBS and BDS students from 1st year to final year. Participants were given a questionnaire and responses were analyzed with SPSS software version 21. Results: The mean age of participants was 23.24 +/- 1.85 years. Female students were more (63%) as compared to male students (37%). Seventy percent (70%) students were interested in different research work and more than 85% students were interested to continue their future career in academics. Participants were more interested in practical training as compared to research and theory. Most of the students were interested to carry out research in clinical field as compared to non-clinical field. The knowledge of research methodology was more in senior students. Student’s knowledge about “impact factor of journal” was low. Conclusion: In this research it has been found that a good number of participants were interested in research activities so measures should be taken to facilitate and motivate them by giving some sort of award to the researchers to increase the publications from Pakistan. Easy access to internet facilities must be provided to promote research activities. Efforts should be made to find out reasons why some students consider research less important. It is also need of the day to develop culture of research by senior faculty members of academic institutes.

The article reveals the essence of research competence and the peculiarities of its formation in future education managers. The methodological basis of the research is made up of methodological approaches: systemic, competence-based, synergistic, complex. The most significant is the acmesynergetic approach. The methodological basis of the study is also made up of methodological principles: intentional dynamism; invariance; individualization; simultaneous study of a person and his activities; systemic and structural; historicism; humanism; development; determinism – self-determinism, etc. Clarification of the definition of the concept of «research competence» is a set of knowledge, research skills (a set of intellectual, practical and organizational skills), skills, research abilities (heuristic, creativity, intellectual mobility, anticipation, independence and impartiality of thinking, emotional intelligence, self-reflection), ways performing actions in situations of uncertainty, in conditions of lack or excess of information, etc. Research competence includes the following components: consistency, prevention, innovation, predictability (acmeological). To assess the level of formation of research competence, the levels (reproductive, adaptive, productive, creative), criteria (motivational-value, practical, reflexive) and the corresponding indicators were determined. A complex of pedagogical conditions providing the formation of research competence of future education managers has been determined. These are: the development of the research potential of undergraduate students based on the actualization of the inner resources of the individual in the process of mastering professional disciplines; stimulating undergraduates to research activities by involving them in solving advanced cognitive and experimental-creative tasks of a professionally oriented nature when using various forms and methods of organizing the educational process; inclusion of undergraduates in different types of research work in the educational process during pre-diploma practice and performance of qualifying (master’s) work. The positive nature of the influence of pedagogical conditions on the formation of the research competence of future education managers in the conditions of a master’s degree is confirmed by the results of control sections at the final stage of the research.
