In recent years, traffic accidents are one of the main causes of high mortality rates in Brazil, especially among men and young people. In this sense, the municipality of Natal / RN presents considerable numbers of traffic accidents. but this is also a worldwide problem. Thus, the objective of this text is to analyze, through various factors (number of deaths, gender, age, type of involvement and size of the fleet), the evolution of traffic accidents with fatalities occurring in the municipality of Natal / RN, between 1999 and 2014. It is mainly a descriptive study, based on secondary data provided by the Ministry of Health and Denatran. The study has shown that traffic accidents with fatalities are becoming more frequent, most of them are caused by males, young people, motorcyclists and pedestrians. It should be noted that the focus of the profile observations was directed at the ones who caused the accidents, rather than the victims. This information would be justified by the constant increase of the fleet of vehicles in the studied period. Thus, these data reveal the need for greater intervention by the State in the implementation of preventive programs, in the execution of its social functions, in the application of effective enforcement actions, and in studies on the quality of investments in relation to the reduction of accident rates for these would minimize the number of deaths.

The movements of two wandering albatrosses, one of each sex, breeding at South Georgia, were tracked using satellite telemetry, particularly to assess whether such birds could be at risk from longline fishing operations in the subtropics. Full details of the performance (number and quality of uplinks) of the Toyocom transmitters are provided, together with data on flight speeds and night and daytime travel by the albatrosses. The female, tracked for seventeen days—covering three foraging trips totalling 13951 km - had a much more northerly distribution than the male, which made two trips to sea during the same period and travelled a minimum distance of 9280 km. On one trip the female frequented the area off Brazil known to be used for longline fisheries. The distributional differences between the sexes support earlier suggestions, based on at-sea observations, that the observed high mortality rates of South Georgian females could be due to a greater likelihood of incidental mortality in longline fishing. These results also show that the presence of females off Brazil can include birds still rearing chicks, rather than simply representing post-breeding dispersal.

Road traffic accidents cause enormous material and moral damage both to the society as a whole and to individual citizens. According to the data, the Russian Federation is among countries with highest road traffic mortality rates within European Region of the World Health Organization. The objective of the study was to attempt to identify possible causes of high mortality rates from traffic accidents on the roads of the Russian Federation and to reveal ways to reduce those rates. To that purpose a survey of citizens of the Russian Federation who are driver’s license owners and who are experienced drivers was conducted in different regions of the country. The results identified low medical literacy in terms of provision of first aid to the injured persons as one of the causes.Other factors, potentially capable to reduce the number of fatalities in road traffic accidents, once their performance indicators improve, have also been considered. Those indicators comprise time of arrival of ambulance crews at the site of an accident with enough medical equipment and medicines, interaction of emergency services, growth of efficiency of training in providing primary medical care at driving schools.

Background: Road traffic accidents (RTAs) are an epidemic problem in Saudi Arabia, resulting in high morbidity and mortality rates. This paper investigates the increasing number of RTAs and their related injuries and mortalities in Saudi Arabia. Methods: This study was performed on the population of Saudi Arabia using secondary data from the general authority for statistics from 1990 to 2018. Correlation among the variables (RTAs, injuries, mortalities, and population) was conducted using statistical package for the social sciences (SPSS), and forecasts of their trends over the next ten years using linear regression was discussed. Results: Eastern, Makkah and Riyadh regions were the top three regions in the number of RTAs accounting for 69% of the total RTAs in Saudi Arabia. All regions have had a pattern of RTA rise from 1990 till 2014 that dropped in the last 4 years. Riyadh had the highest injury rate per 10,000 RTA, although it had the lowest RTA rate per 100,000 population in the period from 2010-2014. Mortality rate in Riyadh doubled between the years 2014 and 2018 while Makkah accounted for the highest RTA-related mortality rates. The correlation between RTAs and mortalities were the highest in the country (r=0.92). In 2030, the average annual increase in the rate of RTAs, related injuries, and related mortalities will be 3%, 2% and 2.1%, respectively. Conclusions: Decision makers in Saudi traffic and transportation department should continue monitoring accidents prevention strategies and their effect. Reasons behind high injury and mortality rates, despite the decrease in the rate of RTAs, should be investigated.

Limited time in consulting becomes an obstacle for midwives in diagnosing complaints in pregnant women, especially those who are already in the III trimester and approaching the labor process. Misdiagnosis results in inaccuracies in the provision of solutions and actions. Initial treatment that corresponds to the complaints of pregnant women especially the third trimester is expected to reduce mortality rates in the mother and fetus. Expert System can be a timely solution with not too long so as to improve the quality of examination on midwives. The methods used are identification, primary and secondary data collection, forward chaining data analysis combined with bayesian, and evaluation with the calculation of the percentage of system success. Samples taken by 20 patients and 4 patients were declared unsyed because they had only one complaint. Meanwhile, 16 patients had some complaints that complied with the Rules. A total of 11 out of 16 patients or about 70% had valid results between the diagnosis of experts/midwives with the system. It can be concluded that the system works well to diagnose complaints in patients with a third trimester gestational age so that midwives can provide appropriate initial solutions and treatment in reducing maternal and infant mortality.

Young people are often exposed to various life situations that gradually come during their lives. The quality of life of young people in Slovakia is conditioned by several areas of social policy therefore, these issues are very important for research. The aim of the paper is to point out the analysis of selected factors (areas) that affect the life situations of young people in Slovakia. We pay attention to the areas of support and protection of the establishment of young families and preparation for parenthood, support of employment of young people and support of housing policy of young people. In this paper we work with the analysis of secondary data, which relate to selected monitored areas focused on young people in Slovakia. The data we use in the article are of a quantitative character. We will use the method of analysis, synthesis, induction and deduction to achieve the set goals. Another key method that we use in the paper is descriptive statistics (Rimarčík, 2007; Chajdiak, 2010; Marek, 2015). In Slovakia, the issue of young people often appears only as a political issue. In scientific discourses, the issue of young people is addressed in isolation, as evidenced by several contributions from the authors. The authors of this paper present the problems of selected factors (areas) influencing the perspectives and reality of young people in Slovakia in an integrated manner.

Diabetes is a disabling disease; the treatment of this condition aims to maintain a good quality of life in the person suffering from it, avoiding symptoms in situations such as decompensation due to hyperglycemia or acute or chronic complications and decreasing the rate of mortality. Currently, government strategies for diabetes care are aimed at the care of the disease and not prevention. The importance of attending to the population from prevention lies in the high mortality rates and high costs that the disease or complications of this generates for a country. The objective of this review is to analyze governmental and non-governmental strategies that focus on diabetes care or risk factors that promote the development of the disease.
