Background: Medical staff working in COVID-19 wards must be isolated and observed for 14 days upon the occurrence of psychological stress-induced hyperthermia (PSH). Such measures could result in great psychological pressure and incur considerable losses in anti-disease resources. Methods: In this study, the psychological conditions of medical staff were assessed over a period of 7 days in COVID-19 isolation wards of the People’s Hospital of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China and 7 days after leaving the wards by using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale (GAD-7), Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), Impact of Event Scale-Revised (IES-R), and Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Checklist-Civilian Version (PCL-C). The relevant factors of PSH were analyzed by t- and rank sum tests. Results: A total of 10 females with an average body temperature of 37.36 ± 0.07 ℃ were included in the PSH group. Another 103 females and 53 males with an average body temperature of 36.66 ± 0.21 ℃ were included in the control group. The PSQI, GAD-7, PHQ-9, IES-R, and PCL-C scores of the PSH group were higher than those of the control group. Binary regression analysis indicated that the odds ratios of the PSQI and GAD-7 scores were 12.98 and 3.81, respectively (P < 0.05). After positive intervention, the body temperature and psychological scale scores of both groups returned to normal ranges. Conclusion: Working in COVID-19 wards could cause susceptible medical staff to suffer from PSH. Female sex, somnipathy, and GAD are independent risk factors of PSH.

Abstract BackgroundTo explore the clinical characteristics of patients with severe heat stroke, we explored the early sensitive indicators of heat stroke (HS) patients, with a view to early intervention for HS patients. MethodsFrom July 30, 2015 to October 5, 2020, 70 inpatients with severe heat stroke admitted to the Second Affiliated Hospital of Nantong University, Jiangsu Province were selected as the research objects. The general information and clinical test indicators of the patients were recorded, and all patients were assessed for acute physiology (APACH Ⅱ) upon admission. According to the severity of heatstroke, they were divided into three groups: control group (heat cramps and heat exhaustion), EHS, and CHS to compare the differences in indicators of each group. Further draw the receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC).Results1. According to the severity of heat stroke, 28 cases were divided into the control group, 24 cases in the EHS group, and 18 cases in the CHS group. The body temperature of the EHS group and the CHS group was significantly higher than that of the control group (both P<0.05), but there was no statistical difference in the body temperature of the EHS group and the CHS group; the DD, PCT, and APACH of the EHS group were significantly higher than those of the control group and the CHS group (both P<0.05); PLT, CRP, Na, GLU of EHS group were lower than those of control group and CHS group (all P<0.05), and the decrease of PLT was more significant; CHS group HbA1C was significantly higher than that of control group and EHS group (all P <0.05). 2. ROC curve analysis the areas under the curves of DD, PCT, and PLT are 0.670, 0.705, 0.791, respectively, the sensitivity is 40.48%, 100%, 73.81%, and the specificity is 96.43%, 32.14%, 78.57%, respectively. Using the combined analysis of the three series tests, the area under the curve was 0.838, the sensitivity was 71.43%, and the specificity was 85.71%. ConclusionsEHS patients have higher DD, PCT, APACH, but PLT, CRP, Na, and blood sugar are lower. At the same time, the significant decrease of PLT and the increase of PCT and DD may be early sensitive indicators of HS. The combined detection of the three can be used as a reference basis for early diagnosis of HS and critical illness.

Abstract Heat stress continues to be a challenge for feedlot producers, forcing physiological adaptations in beef cattle that can have a negative impact on gain and carcass quality. Feedlots may want to incorporate systems that aid in mitigating heat stress, including sprinkler systems, which are commonly found on dairies. The objective of this study was to determine the impact of sprinkler systems on the body temperature of growing feedlot steers applied at three different temperature thresholds. Thirty-two Angus-cross beef steers (298 ± 15 SD days of age) were randomly assigned to 8 pens. Treatments were assigned to pens according to location to avoid drainage issues, with one replicate located on the eastern side of the feedlot and the other replicate located on the western side. Treatments including no sprinklers (C), high temperature threshold sprinklers (HT), moderate temperature threshold sprinklers (MT) or low temperature threshold sprinklers (LT). Sprinklers (flow rate: 5.11 L/min) were activated at 33°C (HT), 28°C (MT), and 23°C (LT) for five minutes at corresponding temperatures every thirty minutes for 57 days. Rectal temperature of steers in their pens was measured in the morning (0800 h), afternoon (1500 h), and evening (1900 h) three days each week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday) for a total of 19 experimental days. Weather measurements, including ambient temperature, windspeed, humidity and solar radiation were recorded at each measurement time along with the maximum values for each day. The change in body temperature (ΔBT) between the morning and afternoon was affected by ambient temperature (P < 0.01); MT (P = 0.02) and LT (P = 0.02) – different than C. There was no significant difference between sprinkler treatments and the control group (P > 0.05). Day affected (ΔBT) between the morning and afternoon (P < 0.05) and the afternoon and evening (P < 0.05). When averaged by day, the control group was significantly higher than MT (P = 0.04) between the morning and afternoon. The control group was also significantly higher than LT between the morning and afternoon (P = 0.03) and the afternoon and evening (P < 0.01). The change in steer body temperature between afternoon and morning was affected by ambient temperature, and averaged across days, lowering the temperature threshold for sprinkling decreased in the afternoon and evening body temperature increase in steers.

Research about sepsis in animal model is interesting to get the right therapeutic method for human being. We did the research to study about the value of body temperature in mice’s various body area in order to get the important information if we are going to do the translational research in animal model about sepsis. One clinical signs of the sepsis mice model is changes in body temperature. An easy way to examine body temperature is using infrared non-contact thermometer. This study aimed to compare the body temperature using infrared non-contact thermometer at the abdomen and anal area. We used male mice, weighing 25–30 g, divided into two groups (control and treatment groups). The control group injected with NaCl 0.9% solution, with the amount of NaCl 0.9% volume equal to Lipopolysaccharide (LPS). In the treatment group injected with 2.5 mg/kg BW of LPS intraperitoneally. Body temperature was measured in abdomen (tabd) and ananl (tan) area at 8th and 24th hour after treatment. Body temperature value tabd was higher than tan. Lipopolysaccharide injection increase body temperature but was not significant when compared to the control group (8th and 24th hour). The mean difference between tabd and tan in 8th control groups were 2.12oC respectively. The mean difference between tabd and tan in 24th hour control groups 4.6oC. The mean difference in treatment groups (8th hour) was 4.66oC, while it was 4.77oC in the 24th groups. Giving 2.5 mg/kg BW LPS intraperitoneally did not rise the body temperature significantly as compare to control groups. But, body temperature at anus area using non-contact infrared thermometer after treatment showed lower results as compared to that of at abdomen significantly.

Abstract Background: To analyze the effects of ruxolitinib on children with secondary hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH).Methods: Eleven pediatric patients diagnosed with HLH and treated with ruxolitinib (ruxolitinib group: group R) between November 2017 and August 2018 were retrospectively analyzed. Eleven age-matched pediatric patients with HLH undergoing conventional treatment (control group: group C) were also analyzed. Results: In group R, three patients who did not respond to conventional treatment (dexamethasone and etoposide) were treated with Ruxolitinib and their temperature decreased to normal levels. Four patients had normal temperature after conventional treatment, but they had severe organ involvement, including obvious yellowing of the skin, increased liver enzyme levels and neuropsychiatric symptoms, and they were all ameliorated with ruxolitinib treatment. Four patients were relieved with ruxolitinib therapy alone. In group C, the body temperature of eleven patients all decreased to normal levels after conventional treatment. The body temperature of group R patients decreased to normal levels more rapidly than that of group C patients. The hormone dosage in group R was significantly lower than that in group C. Both groups were followed up for 2–2.5 years. No obvious adverse drug reactions of ruxolitinib were observed during treatment and follow-up.Conclusion: Ruxolitinib might be an effective drug in controlling body temperature and reducing inflammation indicators. It might be a potential replacement for hormone therapy for HLH treatment in children, thereby reducing or avoiding hormone-related adverse reactions.

A recent randomized clinical trial assessed the efficacy of hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) in the treatment of patients with common coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19). 1 The results showed that “the body temperature recovery time and the cough remission time were significantly shortened in the HCQ treatment group. Besides, a larger proportion of patients with improved pneumonia in the HCQ treatment group (80.6%, 25 of 31) compared with the control group (54.8%, 17 of 31).” A Bayesian reanalysis of the pneumonia data provides support for the hypothesis that HCQ improves pneumonia in patients with COVID-19. However, the degree of this support is moderate. In line with the authors’ conclusion, more data are needed to draw definite conclusions.

Hypothermia is a common and serious complication of spinal surgery and it is associated with many harmful perioperative outcomes. The aim of this study was to compare the effectiveness of warming blankets and warm fluid therapy to manage shivering. A quasi-experiment with a non-equivalent control group was applied as the research design. There were 60 patients involved in the study. The instrument of this study was a warmer fluid modification, a warming blanket and a cotton blanket. The data was analyzed using an applied paired t-test and independent t-test. After 60 minutes of the intervention, the mean and SD of body temperature of the patients receiving warm fluids was 36.71 ± 0.18, a warming blanket was 36.12 ± 0.35, and the control group was 35.76 ± 0.22. The p values were 0,000. Warm fluid therapy and warming blankets are significant in terms of increasing the body temperature of post-spinal anesthesia patients. Warm fluids are more effective than warming blanket. Warming blankets and warm fluid therapy can be used as a way to increase the body temperature of patients with hypothermia.

The effect of gonadoectomy (removal of the testicles) in Adler's silver roosters on the clinical condition, live weight, slaughter rates and chemical composition of the pectoral muscle was studied. The experiment was performed on 40 roosters of 6-weeks, which according to the principle of analogues were divided into two groups: control and experimental 20 heads each. It was found that in the preparatory period, which lasted 10 days indicators of the clinical condition – body temperature, pulse and respiration, as well as live weight of the roosters of the experimental group did not differ from the control. Gonadoectomy of roosters of the experimental group, conducted at the age of 45 days by a specially developed method, increased the body temperature of the poultry on the second day after surgical intervention by 1.03°C, and on the third – by 1.15°, while other indicators of clinical condition – pulse, number respiratory movements and live weight did not change compared to control. The duration of the postoperative period in the roosters of the experimental group was 3-4 days and ended with the healing of the wound on the skin. Subsequently, body temperature, pulse and the number of respiratory movements in gonadoectomized roosters corresponded to similar indicators of poultry in the control group. The live weight of gonadoectomized roosters in the rearing process, which was monitored decadelly from the 65th to the 95th day compared to the control did not change, on 105th and 115th day had a tendency to increase, and 125th day increased by 4.8 %. Slaughter rates of gonadoectomized roosters corresponded to similar indicators of poultry of the control group. The weight of the gutted carcass was higher by 5.2% and that of the muscular stomach by 7.8%. Differences in the chemical composition of the pectoral muscle of gonadoectomized roosters compared with control, namely: on the content of dry matter, moisture, fat, protein and ash were not found. Thus, gonadoectomy of roosters of the Adler's silver meat-egg breed does not affect their clinical condition, the chemical composition of the pectoral muscles, but increases the live weight of the bird on the 125th day of rearing
