The aim of the article was to analyze the state of knowledge of the following plants: Heteropappus altaicus (Willd.) Novopokr., Solidago dahurica L., Leucanthemum vulgare Lam., Tripleurospermum inodorum (L.), Antennaria dioica (L.) Gaertn., Leontopodium conglobatum (Turcz.) Hand.-Mazz. and Geranium eriostemon Fischer., G. pratense L., G. wlassowianum Fisch. ex Link. (Geraniaceae).Materials and methods. To compile the review, the information from the following scientific open and available literature sources placed in scientific libraries of institutions, in electronic databases and search systems, was used: floristic summaries “Flora of Siberia”; “Flora of Central Siberia”; Electronic library of the Siberian branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences; Elibrary; PubMed; Scopus; CyberLeninka, Google Academy; The Plant List, Global Compositae Checklist. The search carried out, was based on the publications for the period of 2009-2020, on the information requests for names of families and subfamilies, names of plant species, biologically active compounds in English, Latin and Russian.Results. A comparative analysis of morphological characters, common species names and the synonyms for the listed species, has been carried out. The studied objects are characterized by the presence of polyphenolic compounds and substances of a triterpene structure, in particular, flavonoids, hydroxycinnamic acids, tannides. In addition, the representatives of the Asteroideae subfamily (Asteraceae) show the accumulation of essential oils, and the representatives of the Geranium genus (geranium) show the accumulation of anthocyanins. The spectrum of the pharmacological activity includes anti-inflammatory, choleretic, antimicrobial, antispasmodic and other types of effects.Conclusion. The presented review makes it possible to arrive at the conclusion about a certain knowledge level of the regional representatives of the Asteroideae subfamily and the Geranium genus. This determines the prospects of these plant objects for further pharmacognostic and pharmacological research and the creation of drugs on their basis – the sources of polyphenolic compounds.

The content, component composition, and main directions of the use of monoterpenes of wild rose petals compounds are considered in the research. The study on six wild rose species was carried out in the collection of M.M. Gryshko National Botanical Garden of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Volatile organic compounds were isolated by steam distillation, and their determination was performed by means of gas chromatography. R. rugosa petals contained the highest number of monoterpenoids, while R. canina petals – the lowest. In our research twentyone different (acyclic, monocyclic, bicyclic) monoterpenoids were identified, including alcohols, aldehydes, ethers, and ketones. All groups of monoterpenoids are biologically active substances and have a significant effect on the aroma of the studied plants.

Abstract. A complete morphological description, as preservation permits, is provided for a new Late Jurassic fish species (Tharsis elleri) together with a revision and comparison of some morphological features of Tharsis dubius, one of the most common species from the Solnhofen limestone, southern Germany. An emended diagnosis of the genus Tharsis – now including two species – is presented. The new species is characterized by a combination of morphological characters, such as the presence of a complete sclerotic ring formed by two bones placed anterior and posterior to the eye, a moderately short lower jaw with quadrate-mandibular articulation below the anterior half of the orbit, caudal vertebrae with neural and haemal arches fused to their respective vertebral centrum, and parapophyses fused to their respective centrum. A phylogenetic analysis based on 198 characters and 43 taxa is performed. Following the phylogenetic hypothesis, the sister-group relationship Ascalaboidae plus more advanced teleosts stands above the node of Leptolepis coryphaenoides. Both nodes have strong support among teleosts. The results confirm the inclusion of Ascalabos, Ebertichthys and Tharsis as members of this extinct family. Tharsis elleri n. sp. (LSID urn:lsid:zoobank.org:act:6434E6F5-2DDD-48CF-A2B1-827495FE46E6, date: 13 December 2018) is so far restricted to one Upper Jurassic German locality – Wegscheid Quarry near Schernfeld, Eichstätt – whereas Tharsis dubius is known not only from Wegscheid Quarry, but also from different localities in the Upper Jurassic of Bavaria, Germany, and Cerin in France.

The type material and additional specimens deposited in the collections of the Zoological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Saint Petersburg, of four poorly known species of Microspio and Spio, M. kussakini Chlebovitsch, 1959, S. kurilensis Buzhinskaya, 1990 comb. nov., S. picta Zachs, 1933 and S. unidentata Chlebovitsch, 1959, were examined. All species occur in intertidal or shallow subtidal areas of the northwest Pacific Ocean. Previously available taxonomic information on these species was from brief original descriptions and very few additional publications. A redescription of these four species is presented including detailed descriptions and illustrations of morphological characters. Comments on the taxonomic status are added. Diagnostic characters of Microspio and Spio species are discussed.

The Key to the Common Phytophthora species (Lucid v 3.4) is a matrix-based computerized identification key and includes important morphological and molecular characters that are useful for identification of 55 common species of Phytophthora. A set of 20 features are used to make a correct species identification. Once a culture is obtained, the user enters responses to known character state options into Lucid Player, and the correct species is identified. Illustrations of each character state for a feature are included in the key. The main morphological features included in the key are: asexual structures, sexual structures, and chlamydospore, hyphae, and cultural characteristics. The user can read an illustrated “Fact Sheet” on each species that includes pictures of morphological characters, disease symptoms, host range, and relevant references. A cross-linked glossary of terminology is included in each fact sheet. In addition, a DNA search function that contains a simple search of internal transcribed spacer (ITS) and Barcode of Life (BOL, 5′ end of the cox 1 gene) sequences for each species can be queried. The key was created to provide teachers, diagnosticians, and regulatory personnel with easily accessible tools to distinguish common species in the genus Phytophthora based on a number of important morphological and molecular characteristics. The key is available for purchase from APS Press and should provide another useful tool for the identification of members of this destructive group of Oomycete plant pathogens.

In the present research, ethanolic and methanolic extracts of Teucrium polium (germander) were studied regarding the content of biologically active substances - in particular polyphenols - antioxidant activity and antibacterial activity. The extracts have been found to be rich in polyphenolic compounds, kaempferol and epichatechin have been found to be present in the highest concentrations. The antioxidant activity evaluated by the method of capturing the free radicals with DPPH revealed values close to those produced by the ascorbic acid. Antimicrobial activity was evaluated by the diffusimetric method and S. aureus and E. coli microorganisms were found to be the most sensitive while P. aeruginosa and fungal species were not sensitive.

The review presents the data of recent years concerning the most important modern problem — the search of the new inhibitors of coronaviruses’ reproduction. Polyphenolic compounds (phlorotannins) from terrestrial and marine plants, polyvalent bioregulators with multiple biological activity, are considered as promising compounds of this type. Polyphenols are able to interfere with different stages of coronaviruses’ life cycle. This fact characterizes polyphenols as multipurpose drugs that affect vital proteins of the pathogens. At the same time, the authors of the review draw attention to the fact that many difficulties must be overcome to develop medications based on plant polyphenols, since these compounds are characterized by complex structures, low bioavailability, as well as rapid excretion from the body. In addition, in vivo studies on animals, as well as in clinical trials, are required. Despite all the difficulties, plant polyphenols should eventually the source for creating antiviral medicines, biologically active food additives, and functional food products.

For obtain modern herbal remedies, medicinal plants containing flavonoids and hydroxycinnamic acids are promising. These polyphenolic compounds are characterized by structural diversity, non-toxicity, a wide range of pharmacological activity. An actual problem is the development of new modern instrumental research methods. In scientific and folk medicine the genus Achillea L. of the Asteraceae L. family are widely used to accelerate wound healing, stop bleeding of various etiologies, as anti-inflammatory and anthelmintic agents. The herb of Achillea micranthoides Klok. has theoretical and practical interest. The plant is distributed in the southern regions of the Black Sea and Mediterranean countries, Europe, Ukraine. A long growing season contributes to the accumulation of biologically active polyphenolic compounds from groups of flavonoids and hydroxycinnamic acids. The aim of the work was to study the composition of polyphenolic compounds (flavonoids and the hydroxycinnamic acids) in the herbs of the Achillea micranthoides Klok. during flowering (june-september). The object of research was herb of Achillea micranthoides Klok. Harvesting was carried out in south and oust regions of Ukraine during flowering (June–September, 2017). The investigation of polyphenolic compounds were performed by TLC and HPLC methods. HPLC analyzes were performed using an Agilent Technogies (Model 1100) (Japan). The chromatographic column ZORBAX-SB C-18 measuring 2.1×150 mm, filled with octadecylsilyl sorbent, with a grain diameter of 3.5 microns were used. The systems as the mobile phase: trifluoroacetic acid 0,2%, methanol anhydrous and a mixture of trifluoroacetic acid 0,2% with methanol 70% were used; wave length 313 nm, 350 nm.             During the flowering period, the presence and quantitative content were established 8 flavonoids (up to 1,176 ± 0,122%) and 6 hydroxycinnamic acids (up to 0,807 ± 0,071%). The identified flavonoids are dominated by compounds: apigenin-7,4'-di-O-glucoside, quercetin-3-O-rutinoside, luteolin-6-C-glucoside, luteolin-7-O-β-D-glucopyranoside, apigenin-7-O-β-D-glucopyranoside. The highest content in the composition of hydroxycinnamic acids was found for chlorogenic and caffeic acids. The obtained results to be used for perspective modern herbal remedies from Achillea micranthoides Klok. herb with anti-inflammatory, antioxidative, haemostatic and hepatoprotective activities. The qualitative and quantitative determination methods of polyphenolic compounds in Achillea micranthoides Klok. herb may be used to the State Ukraine Pharmacopoeia monographs.

The Russian Academy of Sciences together with the Electronic Library eLibrary.ru have developed an academic rating of scientific journals from the Special Collection (SC), which includes about 15% of the journals of the Russian Science Citation Index (RSCI). The academic rating is based on the methodology of calculating the thematic ratings of the RSCI. The basis of the academic rating formula is the impact factor of the journal, which takes into account the citations of articles only from the journals of the SC collection and journals included in the international bibliographic databases Web of Science and Scopus. The paper concludes that the methodology for calculating the academic rating has significant drawbacks, which did not allow the academic rating to give a complete and objective assessment of the authority of Russian scientific journals.

The article considers the history of foundation and development of scientific libraries in Yakutia. In many ways, the opening of libraries was caused by the scientific interest in Siberia, the emergence of scientific and cultural-educational societies. Libraries strengthened the status of the societies and provided information support for their activities. The first scientific libraries were opened at the Yakut Regional Statistical Committee (1853), the Yakut Regional Museum (1891), the Yakut Department of the Agricultural Society (1899) and the Yakut Branch of the Imperial Russian Geographical Society (1913).The article notes the contribution of the State Public Scientific and Technical Library of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the National Library of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) to the study of history of libraries and librarianship in Siberia, including Yakutia. Particularly, the author describes the influence of political exiles on the formation of libraries and the development of culture in the region. The author focuses on the activities of the Yakut Regional Statistical Committee, which established one of the first special libraries, which later became the main one for scientific libraries. The article considers its activities as an integral part of scientific research in the Eastern Siberia, since the Committee not only collected statistical data on the region, but also supported research institutions, took part in organizing expeditions to study the region, etc. The author describes the role of the Secretary of the Committee, S.F. Saulsky, in the ordering and systematization of the library’s collection, as well as the role of A.I. Popov, state councillor, full member of the Imperial Russian Geographical Society, in the organization of the Yakut Regional Museum. The article reveals the activities of the museum library on selection of books and periodicals of scientific societies, Sibirika, local history literature and manuals for the identification of collections and their systematization. The library kept valuable materials: manuscripts, archival files, geographical maps, route maps, plans of cities, villages, dwellings of foreigners, etc. Academic expeditions of the 18th — first half of the 19th century made an invaluable contribution to the study of Siberia; and the Academy of Sciences gradually transferred the functions of specialized stationary scientific body to the Imperial Russian Geographical Society. The author attempts to trace the origins of the library at the Yakut Branch of the Russian Geographical Society. Attention is paid to the activities of the governor of affairs N.N. Gribanovsky, who identified one of the main directions of the library activity — creation of local history reference and bibliographic apparatus that reflects the literature about Yakutia.The article notes the general trends of scientific libraries: insufficient financing; acquisitions mostly consisted of donations and book exchange; involvement of political exiles in the work; limited access of readers (only for the staff or members of societies). The author reveals the fate of the first scientific libraries, whose collections were distributed among the libraries of Yakutsk and partially preserved in the historically formed library holdings.
