Objective: To contribute to the discussion about the potential impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on gender (in)equality. Background: We focus on a core aspect of gender (in)equality in intimate relationships, namely couples’ division of housework and childcare, and whether this has changed during the Corona crisis. Method: Our descriptive analysis is based on pre-release data from the German Family Panel (pairfam; Wave 12) and its supplementary Corona web-survey (n=3,108). Results: We observe no fundamental changes in established aggregate-level patterns of couples’ division of labor, but some shift towards the extremes ('traditional' and 'role reversal') of the distribution. Regarding changes within couples, there is an almost equal split between those in which the female partner’s share in housework and childcare increased and those in which it decreased. Particularly in previously more egalitarian arrangements, a substantial proportion of women is now more likely to be primarily responsible for everything. If male partners increased their relative contribution to housework and childcare, they rarely moved beyond the threshold of an equal split. Changes in employment hours were associated with adaptations of men's, but not women's, relative contribution to domestic and family responsibilities. Conclusion: Our findings neither support the notion of a 'patriarchal pandemic', nor do they indicate that the Corona crisis might have fostered macro-level trends of gender convergence. We rather observe heterogeneous responses of couples to the 'Corona shock'.

Paracelsus contributed greatly to medical philosophy in the early sixteenth century, yet his reputation was so tainted by his hypocrisy that he left few followers and is often forgotten. Many aspects of his teachings, however, can be applied to current theories governing evolutionary genetic research. His claim, “Where diseases arise, one can also find the roots of health” hints at the intimate relationships between health and  disease that are the foundations of fascinating research. In many devastating medical cases, it has been  found that expression of one genetic disease can confer resistance for another. Sicklecell anemia sufferers have an increased resistance to malaria, cystic fibrosis is associated with decreased susceptibility to  influenza, tuberculosis and cholera, and even the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV1) is theorized to  have stemmed from a selection for resistance to the Bubonic Plague. These examples demonstrate the ambiguities in distinguishing between health and disease. While scientists today would likely scoff at Paracelsus’ dated medical rants, when they discover a disease favoured by natural selection, one of the first questions is how it could have conferred a benefit ancestrally. Applying Paracelsus’ theories to a discipline as contrary to evolutionary genetics demonstrates both the robustness of his claims, and the potential impact philosophy can have on medical, scientific and sociological questions surrounding challenging  epidemics

ABSTRACT Sweet potato is a vegetable of great importance in human consumption, due to its high nutritional value. It presents high phenotypic variation, with different forms of roots, leaves and vines. Given the above, we aimed to study the genetic divergence of sweet potato genotypes based on morpho-agronomic traits. The experiment was conducted in an experimental area of Unesp, Ilha Solteira Campus, located in Selvíria-MS. The experimental design used was randomized blocks with two replicates, including 200 genotypes and ‘Beauregard’ as a biofortified control. Shoot morphological traits of the genotypes were evaluated at 110 days and root morphological traits were evaluated at 127 days after planting. We used the obtained data to perform descriptive analysis, in percentage of phenotypic classes. In order to study genetic divergence, multivariate analysis was performed, grouping was done using Tocher’s and Ward’s methods. We also analyzed relative contribution of each trait for genetic divergence. Statistical analyzes were performed using Genes software and SAS. Wide genetic variability could be verified in the population studied in this experiment, being possible to obtain genetic gains in recombination between genotypes. Grouping using Tocher’s method was more effective for discriminating dissimilarity between genotypes. The low relative importance of leaf size, internode diameter and secondary peel color makes further evaluation of these traits unnecessary, reducing labor costs, cost and execution time.

Better management practices (BMPs) as a sustainable approach made it attractive for growers to control the provision of pollutants from agricultural activities as well as enhance the financial return. The experiments of cotton production were conducted in four different regions of Punjab in cotton-growing years 2017-2019. The objective of the study was to evaluate the potential impact of BMPs among cotton farmers by rationalizing the use of input resources (viz., seed, fertilizers, pesticides and water). The data were collected from randomly selected adopters of BMPs (n = 400) and non-adopters of BMPs (n = 100) through a well-structured pretested questionnaire using a multistage sampling procedure from four different regions of Punjab province. Descriptive analysis was employing an independent two-sample t-test to evaluate the significant effect of BMPs on the utilization of input resources and profitability of cotton production between adopters and non-adopters of BMPs. The results indicated that adopters of BMPs were efficiently used input resources (at p ≤ 0.001 & p ≤ 0.01) and significantly enhanced the average cotton yield (855.09 kg acre-1) in Punjab, while non-adopters of BMPs had a significantly high cost of production by 11% (35,655 PKR acre-1) and output was lower by 15% (751.70 kg acre-1) under conventional farming for cotton cultivation. The economic analysis revealed that the average gross income gained by adopters of BMPs was significantly high by 11% (72,648 PKR acre-1 at p ≤ 0.001) with the maximum net return of 36% (40,785 PKR acre-1 at p ≤ 0.001) as well as a good B:C (1.28) as compared to non-adopters of BMPs. This study provides useful information about the potential impact of BMPs among cotton farmers even without the extra use of inputs. It is concluded that precision in inputs and management practices with lower input costs can significantly improve cotton productivity leading to uplift the farmers’ profit.

AbstractThe existing studies on the determinants of the regulation of religion are based on the theories of modernization, clash of civilizations, and economics of religion, which do not properly take into account the potential impact of the political environment. The current study aims to address this gap in the research. It discusses some of the ways in which the differences in the political environment in autocratic and democratic countries might influence the regulation of religion. The results of the descriptive analysis for ca. 150 countries show that there is more variation in regulation of religion among the autocratic countries than among the democratic ones, and that in the autocratic countries there is a clear association between patterns of legitimation and regulation. The results on the association between the constitutional structure of the democratic countries and regulation of religion are ambiguous.

The Tenaga Kerja act has been passed. One of the sectors associated with the Tenaga Kerja act is marine and fisheries sector. Therefore, it is important to understand the potential impact of the act on the maritime and fisheries sector. The purpose of this paper was to analyze the potential effect of the Tenaga Kerja act on the marine and fisheries sector. In addition, this paper also offers a new paradigm in optimal and environmentally friendly marine and fisheries resource management based on Islam. We used descriptive analysis method by comparing the Tenaga Kerja act with acts relating to the maritime and fisheries sector. In addition, to understand how Islam manages existing natural resources, the Koran and the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad Shallallahu ‘Alaihi Wa Sallam were used. The results showed that the Tenaga Kerja act opens opportunities for foreigners to exploit marine and fishery resources in Indonesia waters. As a consequence, the interests of the national fishing industry are threatened. In addition, the act created a very strong centralization of authority to the Central Government and weakened the roles of the Technical Ministers and local governments. On the other hand, Islam provides solutions in optimal management of marine and fisheries resources while maintaining their sustainability. Therefore, it is very important to consider Islam in environmental management such as in the marine and fisheries sector.

Chapter 1 serves as the introduction to the book. While housework is a frequent object of scholarly inquiry, in part because of its ubiquitous appearance across household types, we argue that it can be used to understand more than simply who does what around the house. Housework provides insight into the power dynamics in intimate relationships. After explaining resource-based and social psychological/symbolic perspectives for understanding the division of housework, the chapter concludes with a detailed summary of the remainder of the book.

As the development of tourism industry in Manado City, make a potential impact for the hotel industry in Manado City. Thus we must pay more attention to the tax treatment in the hospitality business, both in its application and calculation. The purpose of this study was to find out the application of hotel tax accounting at Whiz Prime Hotel Manado. This type of research is descriptive. Data obtained through field observations, interviews and library research. Data were then analyzed using qualitative descriptive analysis methods. The results showed that the calculation and deduction of local taxes on Whiz Prime Hotel Manado already refers to existing tax regulations. Hotel tax calculation in every transaction is done at the end of every month by Whiz Prime Hotel. Although the application and calculation have been implemented according to the existing regulations, but there are still those who do not understand what supporting services are in hotel taxes. For this reason, Whiz Prime Hotel is expected to maintain existing performance and improve understanding and application, so that services and human resources can be better.
