ABSTRACTBackground: Fruit-infused water (FIW) contains antioxidants and potassium as a antihyperglycemic and antihypertension via inhibition or break the chain of radical reaction but has not been proven in patients with MS.Purpose: To evaluate the effects of FIW on blood pressure and fasting blood glucose (FBG) in patients with MS.Method: This is a Randomized-Control Trial with pre-posttest control group design. 24 patients of Cakranegara Health Center who fulfilled the criteria were randomly divided into control (given counseling only) and treatment (counseling + FIW consists of apple, cucumber, pineapple and strawberry in 250 ml water for 14 days) groups. Blood pressure and FBG were measured before and after intervention. Chi Square was used for descriptive analyze, whereas T-test, Mann Whitney and Wilcoxon was used for differences in means.Result: In the treatment group (n=11), systolic and diastolic mean levels were decreased by 5,4 mmHg (p=0,140) and 0,9 mmHg (p=0,792) respectively. However, FBG levels were increased by 9,2 mg/dL (p=0.929). There were no differences on systolic (p=0,448), diastolic (p=0,835) and FBG (p=0,599) between two groups.Conclusion: FIW consumption are unable to improve blood pressure and FBG levels on metabolic syndrome. Keywords: Fruit-Infused Water, Blood Pressure, Fasting Blood Sugar Level, Metabolic Syndrome

Background: Pre metabolic syndrome is characterized by two of five risk factors: central obesity, dyslipidemia, hypertension, and increased fasting blood glucose. Cinnamon yogurt and soygurt contain antioxidants and fiber which can improve insulin sensitivity and blood glucose homeostasis and prevent cell damage in pre-metabolic syndrome conditionsObjective: This study aimed to determine the effect of cinnamon yogurt and soygurt on fasting blood glucose (FBG), serum insulin, and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels in pre-metabolic syndrome rats.Method: This study was an experimental study with a pre and post-test control group design. The subjects were 15 male Sprague Dawley rats which were divided into 5 normal control mice (K) and 10 pre metabolic syndrome mice with a diet high in fat and fructose for group P1 (yogurt) and P2 (soygurt) each of 5 mice. The yogurt and soygurt were given as much as 3.4 ml / g BW for 28 days. FBG levels were measured by the GOD-PAP method, while serum insulin and MDA levels were by the ELISA method. Different tests before and after treatment using Paired t-test or Wilcoxon. The difference tests between groups using the One-Way ANOVA test or Kruskal Wallis.Results: There were no differences in FBG and MDA levels between groups after intervention (p> 0.05). The highest percentage reduction in FBG in the P2 (-11.59%), then P1 (-4.06%). The decrease in MDA levels in group P1 = 19.17%, and P2 = 15.44% lower than K = 24.43%. After the intervention, the insulin level in group P2 (0.46 ng / ml) was significantly higher than P1 (0.318 ng/ml), but both were not different from K (0.384 ng / ml).Conclusion: There was no significant effect on the administration of cinnamon yogurt and soygurt to FBG, serum insulin, and MDA levels.

Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a combination of physiologically dysregulated parameters that can include elevated fasting blood glucose, high blood pressure, central obesity, increased triglyceride levels, insulin resistance, diabetes, elevated low density lipoprotein levels, and reduced high density lipoprotein levels in the blood. Effective clinical management of MetS is critical as it is strongly associated with long lasting and fatal complications in patients. Alongside standard care of lifestyle changes and medication, dietary supplements derived from herbal resources could be an alternative therapeutic strategy that is safe, efficient, culturally acceptable, and has few side effects. Of the dietary supplements, spicy foods have always been considered a great source of functional bioactive compounds. Herbal therapy is broadly used in many countries as a treatment or as a preventive measure in the management of MetS risk factors, including blood glucose, blood pressure, and blood lipid levels. Herein, an attempt is made to evaluate the recent studies in the management of MetS with herbal alternatives, and to explore the possibility of their use as therapeutic treatments or supplements.

Woman menopause in hypertension is often associated with increase vascularity and physiological changes during menopause. This study aims to examine the effect of celery leaf stew on blood pressure levels in menopausal woman in hypertension. This study was a quasy experiment with pretest-posttest control group design, conducted in the Sidodadi Village District Beringin, Deli Serdang on Januari to March 2020. There were 28 participants selected using purposive sampling, with 14 assigned in the experimental and control group. Data were analyzed using paired t-test and unpaired t-test. There were statistically significance difference of blood pressure levels before and after intervention in the experiment group with p value sitolic level  0.000 dan diastolic level 0.001 (<0.05). Celery leaf stew has a significant effect in reducing  blood pressure level in menopausal woman in hypertension. This intervention could be applied as an alternative theraphy in treating menopausal woman in hypertension.

Background: Mucositis is one of the side effects of chemotherapy, which can be a severe problem for children with cancer. Cryotherapy can cause vasoconstriction and decrease blood flow to the oral mucosa, resulting in lower concentrations of chemotherapy agents to prevent mucositis. This study aims at determining the effectiveness of oral cryotherapy as prophylaxis mucositis in children with cancer undergoing chemotherapy.Methods: This quasi-experiment study with a pretest-posttest control-group design involved 45 respondents (22 in the intervention group and 23 in the control group) selected using consecutive sampling. The data collection instrument was the WHO mucositis scale. Results: Of the 45 children undergoing chemotherapy, 24 (53.3%) were of school age, 25 (55.6%) were male, 33 (73.3%) had good nutritional status, and 17 (37.8%) had mild neutropenia before undergoing chemotherapy. All respondents (100%) did not experience mucositis, but after chemotherapy, 9 children (40.9%) in the intervention group had mucositis, and 19 children (82.6%) experienced mucositis in the control group. The data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test to see the difference between the intervention group and the control group and the Chi-Square test with Yates’s correction to see the effect of cryotherapy on the prevention of mucositis. The results showed that there was a difference in the incidence of mucositis between before and after intervention in the intervention group (p = 0.003) and the control group (p = 0.000), and cryotherapy was effective in preventing mucositis (p = 0.01).Conclusions: Cryotherapy is effective against the prevention of mucositis. Nurses and families need to be able to apply oral cryotherapy and other evidence-based treatment as a method to prevent mucositis

Background: Individually, green tea and green coffee have been extensively studied for mitigation of metabolic syndrome (MS) in both rats and humans; however, their combined effect requires further investigation. Thus, we compared the metabolic effect of combining green tea and decaffeinated light roasted green coffee on MS in rats. Methods: An MS animal model was constructed by feeding Sprague-Dawley rats with a high-fat-high-sucrose (HFHS) diet for eight weeks and a low dose of streptozotocin (STZ) injection at week 2. Rats fed with HFHS diets and injected with STZ successfully developed MS phenotypes, indicated by higher body weight, systolic blood pressure, plasma triglyceride level, plasma fasting blood glucose level, and lower plasma HDL-C level, compared to those fed with a normal chow diet. Subsequently, MS rats were continuously fed with HFHS and divided into four groups: MS rats, MS with 300 mg/bw.t green tea extract (GT), MS with 200 mg/bw.t green coffee extract (GC), and MS with combined green tea and green coffee extract (CM) for nine weeks. Results: Combining green tea and green coffee have synergistic effects on reducing plasma fasting blood glucose and triglyceride level. Inflammatory markers both in plasma and liver tissue robustly decreased in CM group rats. However, the reduction of systolic blood pressure was observed only in GT and CM groups. Moreover, all treatment resulted in an increase in plasma HDL-C level in MS rats. Conclusions: Our data highlighted that, in MS animal models, combined green tea and decaffeinated light roasted green coffee augment their several individual beneficial effects of improved metabolic parameters and modulated inflammatory genes.

Background: Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is clustering of metabolic abnormalities characterized by obesity, hypertension, dyslipidemia and glucose intolerance that collectively increases the risk of diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular disease, stroke and overall mortality. Microalbuminuria is associated with diabetes mellitus, hypertention, obesity all are components of metabolic syndrome. Microalbuminuria and MetS have both been linked to chronic kidney disease and cardiovascular disease. Before development of microalbuminuria there is a wide normal range for urinary albumin excretion. By comparing the strength of the association between MetS and its components with normoalbuminuria and microalbuminuria, we can assess the risk of cardiovascular and renal diseases. This study aimed to evaluate the association of normoalbuminuria and microalbuminuria with the components of MetS in Bangladeshi adult subjects. Methods: It was a cross-sectional analytical study, carried out in the Department of Biochemistry of Sir Salimullah Medical College and Mitford Hospital, Dhaka, Bangladesh during the period of March 2017 to January 2018. Total 175 patients with MetS attending the outpatient department of Medicine and Endocrinology of Mitford Hospital were included. Collected data was checked, edited and analyzed with the help of software SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) version 22. Results: This study showed, among the total 175 study subjects, 125 subjects were with normoalbuminuria (71.43%) and 50 subjects had microalbuminuria (28.57%). With an average age 42.4 years, female were 52% in this study. There was also female predominance among microalbuminuric subjects (13.71% vs 14.75%). Participants with microalbuminuria were more likely to have higher systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP) and fasting blood glucose (FBG) than those with normoalbuminuria. The albumin creatinine ratio (ACR) of study subjects ranged from 3.00 to 270.39 mg/g and mean ACR was 27.14 mg/g. The mean ACR for participants with three (n=34), four (n=72) and five (n=69) components of MetS were 14.73, 19.94 and 40.77 mg/g respectively and corresponding prevalence of microalbuminuria was 10%, 32% and 58% respectively. Normal range of urinary albumin excretion rate (normoalbuminuria) were classified into four quartiles according to their ACR values and ranges for Q1, Q2, Q3 & Q4 were respectively Q1 = 3.00 to 5.1, Q2 = 5.1 to 8.2, Q3 = 8.2 to 13.89, Q4 = 13.89 to 28.1mg/g. The means of elevated DBP, SBP, FBG and tri-acyl glycerol (TAG) among the components of MetS showed increasing trend from lower to upper quartiles within normal range. Q1 was considered as base line in comparison to other quartiles. Odds of elevated WC, FBG, TAG, BP and low HDL-C were high across increasing quartiles of ACR (1.00 vs 1.33 vs 2.24 vs 1.79 respectively for central obesity; 1.00 vs 1.07 vs 1.97 vs 2.07 respectively for elevated fasting blood glucose; 1.00 vs 1.51 vs 1.69 vs 1.69 respectively for elevated TAG; 1.00 vs 6.86 vs 3.87 vs 2.88 respectively for elevated BP and 1.00 vs 1.35 vs 2.79 vs 2.79 respectively for low HDL-C; p-values <0.05 for all). Among the components of MetS, most significant relationship was observed between elevated BP and increasing ACR quartile within normal range. Conclusions: In conclusion, we demonstrated that microalbuminuria was strongly associated with MetS and its components. Microalbuminuria should be reconsidered as a component of MetS as it shows incremental effect with severity of MetS. Even upper normal range of albuminuria (higher normoalbuminuria) is strongly associated with elevated BP, FBG and TAG among the components of MetS. So, normal range of albuminuria should be rearranged after performing large scale population study in this regard. Birdem Med J 2020; 10(3): 152-158

Background: Flavonoids, saponins, tannins, phenols, and vitamin-C contained in the Red Dragon fruit’s skin have a positive impact on glycemic control and lipid oxidation. This study aimed to determine the effect of Red Dragon fruit’s skin extract on reducing the fasting blood glucose (FBG) and improving the lipid profile of Wistar rats with diabetes and dyslipidemia. Methods: A randomized pre-test post-test control group experimental study was done on 22 male Wistar rats, aged 2-3 months that suffered from diabetes and dyslipidemia. Subjects were divided into the control group (given 2cc distilled water + 9 mg metformin) and the treatment group (given 160 mg red dragon fruit’s skin extract + 9 mg metformin) for 14 days. FBG and lipid profile measurements were done before and after the treatment. Data were analyzed using the compare mean test. Results: There was no significant mean difference of GDP between groups before (p=0.414) and after treatment (p=0.125), total cholesterol between groups before (p = 0.572) and after treatment (p=0.361), triglycerides between groups before (p=0.073) and after treatment (p=0.111). There was a significant mean difference of HDL between groups before (p=0.003) and after treatment (p=0.047), LDL between groups before (p=0.006) and after treatment (p=0.043). Although there were significant mean differences in HDL and LDL between groups before and after treatment, the pre-post treatment of HDL and LDL mean differences showed no significant mean difference (p=0.328 and p=0.704 consecutively). Conclusion: Red Dragon fruit’s skin extract treatment did not significantly reduce the mean FBG and lipid profile levels.

Strawberries (Fragaria x ananassa) and Rome beauty apples (Malus sylvestris) contain high antioxidants to reduce oxidative stress and improve the glycemic response with diabetes mellitus (DM) type II. This study aimed to analyze the effect of strawberries, Rome beauty apples, and their combination to decrease fasting blood glucose levels of type II DM patients. This experimental research used a randomized pre-post-test with a control group design. Subjects were 44 patients divided into four groups: K (control, not given the fruit), P1 (strawberries 200 g/day), P2 (apples 300 g/day), and P3 (the combination strawberries 100 g/day, apples 150 g/day) for 14 days in February–March 2019 in Surakarta. The inclusion criteria were DM patients aged 40–55 years who received oral antidiabetic drug therapy. Exclusion criteria were type II DM patients who, based on the doctor's diagnosis, had complications such as gastritis, hypertension, chronic renal failure, heart disease, liver disease, stroke, cancer, patients with consumption of antioxidant supplements. Mean of blood glucose level on K (149.82±39.125), P1 (141.00±38.079), P2 (128.73±31.841), and P3 (177.73±50.176). Analysis paired t test results showed a significant difference between before and after treatment (p=0.045). To find out which group was the most meaningful, the Bonferroni post hoc test. Decrease of fasting blood glucose levels with group K (−10.55, p>0.05), P1 (−30.18, p<0.05), P2 (40.27, p<0.05), and P3 (−32.91, p<0.05). ANOVA test was used to analyze, and the post hoc Bonferroni test with a control comparison was performed, resulting in p=0.028, in P2 and p>0.05 in P1 and P3. In conclusion, strawberries, Rome beauty apples, and their combination significantly decreased fasting blood glucose levels of type II DM patients, with the highest and most significant decrease in Rome beauty apples. POTENSI STROBERI, APEL ROME BEAUTY, DAN KOMBINASI BARU TERHADAP GULA DARAH PUASA SEBAGAI PENUNJANG TERAPI DIET PADA PASIEN DIABETES MELITUS TIPE IIStroberi (Fragaria x ananassa) dan apel Rome beauty (Malus sylvestris) mengandung antioksidan tinggi untuk mengurangi stres oksidatif dan memperbaiki respons glikemik pada diabetes melitus (DM) tipe II. Tujuan penelitian adalah menganalisis pengaruh buah stroberi, apel Rome beauty, dan kombinasinya terhadap penurunan kadar glukosa darah puasa pasien DM tipe II. Jenis penelitian eksperimen dengan rancangan randomized pre-post-test dengan control group design. Subjek penelitian 44 pasien yang dibagi empat kelompok, yaitu K (kontrol tidak diberi buah), P1 (stroberi 200 g/hari), P2 (apel Rome beauty 300 g/hari) dan P3 (kombinasi stroberi 100 g/hari dan apel 150 g/hari) selama 14 hari pada bulan Februari–Maret 2020 di Surakarta. Kriteria inklusi adalah pasien DM usia 40–55 tahun yang mendapat terapi obat antidiabetik oral. Kriteria eksklusi adalah pasien DM tipe II yang berdasar atas diagnosis dokter mengalami komplikasi seperti mag, hipertensi, gagal ginjal kronik, penyakit jantung, penyakit hati, strok, kanker, dan pasien dengan konsumsi suplemen antioksidan. Kadar glukosa darah rerata pada K (149,82±39,125), P1 (141,00±38,079), P2 (128,73±31,841), dan P3 (177,73±50,176). Hasil analisis paired t test menunjukkan terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antara sebelum dan sesudah perlakuan (p=0,045). Untuk mengetahui kelompok mana yang paling bermakna, dilakukan Uji Post Hoc Bonferroni. Penurunan kadar glukosa darah puasa pada K (−10,55; p>0,05), P1 (−30,18; p<0,05), P2 (−40,27; p<0,05), dan P3 (−32,91; p<0,05). Analisis dilakukan dengan uji ANOVA dan Uji Post Hoc Bonferroni dengan perbandingan kontrol menghasilkan p=0,028 pada P2 serta p>0,05 pada P1 dan P3. Simpulan, pemberian stroberi, apel Rome beauty, dan kombinasinya signifikan menurunkan kadar glukosa darah puasa pasien DM tipe II dengan penurunan tertinggi dan bermakna pada apel Rome beauty.

Nyeri yang disebabkan oleh sectio caesarea pada umumnya akan terasa hingga beberapa hari. Rasa nyeri tersebut biasanya dirasakan meningkat pada hari pertama post operasi sectio caesarea dan akan semakin terasa apabila pengaruh dari analgesik hilang. Manajemen untuk mengatasi nyeri dapat dilakukan dengan cara non-farmakologi menggunakan aromaterapi. Tujuan Penelitian  mengetahui pengaruh aromaterapi lavender terhadap nyeri post partum sectio caesarea. Metode penelitian merupakan kuantitatif menggunakan desain quasi experiment dengan pendekatan pre test and post test non equivalent control group design yang dilakukan dari bulan Agustus–September 2020. Teknik pengambilan sampel secara consecutive sampling dengan jumlah 22 ibu postpartum sectio caesarea di Ruang Alamanda 3 RSUD Panembahan Senopati Bantul. Uji statistik menggunakan Chi-Square. Hasil: Sebagian besar ibu postpartum sectio caesarea memiliki tingkat nyeri sebelum diberikan aromaterapi lavender pada kategori sedang (4-6) sebanyak 12 orang (54.5%). Setelah dilakukan pemberian aromaterapi lavender memiliki tingkat nyeri ringan (1-3) sebanyak 16 orang (72.7%). Terdapat perbedaan rerata tingkat nyeri ibu postpartum sectio caesarea sebelum dan setelah pemberian aromaterapi lavender dengan nilai mean 0.121, standar deviasi 0.568 dan nilai p-value sebesar 0,000 (p value<0,05).Kesimpulan: Ada pengaruh sebelum dan setelah pemberian aromaterapi lavender terhadap nyeri postpartum sectio caesareadi Ruang Alamanda 3 RSUD Panembahan Senopati Bantul. Kata Kunci: nyeri  postpartum; sectio caesarea; aromaterapi lavender.LAVENDER AROMATERAPY EFFECT ON POSTPARTUM SECTIO CAESAREA PAIN AT PANEMBAHAN SENOPATI HOSPITAL OF BANTUL   ABSTRACT Pain caused by section caesarea are generally felt for several days. This study aim was to determine the effectiveness of lavender aromatherapy on postpartum sectio caesarea mother at  Panembahan Senopati General Hospital of  Bantul. The study used a quasi experimental design with pre test and post test approach non equivalent control group design. This research was conducted from August until September 2020. The research sampling methods used consecutive sampling with a total of 22 postpartum sectio caesarea mothers in the Alamanda 3 room of Panembahan Senopati General Hospital of Bantul. Data analysis used chi square test. Most of the postpartum sectio Caesarea mothers had a level of pain before being given aromatherapy (pre test) in a moderate category (4-6) as much as 12 people (54.5%). After being given lavender aromatherapy had a mild category (1-3) as much as 16 people (72.7%). There is an influence between the level of pain in postpartum mother with section caesarea before and after giving lavender aromatherapy with a mean value of 0.121, standard deviation of 0.568 and a p-value of 0.000 (p value< 0,05). There is an effetiveness before and after being given lavender aromatherapy on postpartum sectio caesarea pain in the Alamanda 3 room at Panembahan Senopati General Hospital of Bantul. Keyword : Postpartum pain; sectio caesarea; lavender aromatherapy

In Indonesia, Yoga is currently one of the most popular sports, not only for the general public but also for pregnant women. Many benefits can be obtained from prenatal yoga including the mother feeling comfortable and relaxed throughout pregnancy and during childbirth, training the pelvic floor muscles and perineum, keeping the body's muscles relaxed, balanced during childbirth, reducing stress, increasing and improving oxygen circulation to the body and fetus. . This study aims to determine the effect of prenatal yoga on optimizing fetal position on third trimester Primigravida maternal delivery output at Puskesmas Cirebon City. This research is a quasi-experimental research pre post control group design and only post control group design with T test and Chi Square test. Paired T Test results of the intervention group (mean difference = 3.111, P value = 0.000, control group (mean difference = 0.833, P value = 0.318). Independent T Test results obtained (average difference = -1.944, P value = 0.024), Chi Square test obtained a value of P = 0.73. There is a difference in the average anxiety before and after the intervention in the intervention group, there is no difference in average anxiety before and after the intervention in the control group. There is a difference in the average anxiety between the intervention and control groups. There is a difference in mean Long I stage between the intervention and control groups There was no effect of prenatal yoga on the type of labor.
