Summary Simplified and 3D models have been studied to predict the performance of progressing cavity pumps (PCPs). Simplified models were mainly made for metallic stator PCP performance. Their purpose was to represent the relationship between pump flow rate and differential pressure. Previous studies proposed to solve the system of mass conservation equations. In these studies, the geometry of the gap area was not clearly represented by neglecting the curvatures of stator and rotor. In addition, only frictional loss was considered, but local loss by gradual contraction or expansion of the gap area was not considered. In this study, we present a new analytical approach considering curvature and local loss. The depth of the gap area and local loss could be calculated analytically by a middle streamline and a curvature. On the basis of periodicity of distribution of cavities, simplified calculation for a slippage was possible without a system of mass conservation equations. Therefore, this model represents clearer geometry and a more simplified approach. The results show that this model shortens the calculating time and facilitates programing; in addition, the model validation is good in matching with experimental data.

[ACCESS RESTRICTED TO THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI AT AUTHOR'S REQUEST.] Different cell types of an organism have the same DNA sequence, but they can function differently because their difference in 3D organization allows them to express different genes and has different cellular functions. Understanding the 3D organization of the genome is the key to understand functions of the cell. Chromosome conformation capture techniques like Hi-C and TCC that can capture interactions between proximal chromosome fragments have allowed the study of 3D genome organization in high resolution and high through-put. My work focuses on developing computational methods to reconstruct 3D genome structures from Hi-C data. I presented three methods to reconstruct 3D genome and chromosome structures. The first method can build 3D genome models from soft constraints of contacts and non-contacts. This method utilizes the concept of contact and non-contact to reconstruct 3D models without translating interaction frequencies into physical distances. The translation is commonly used by other methods even though it makes a strong assumption about the relationship between interaction frequencies and physical distances. In synthetic dataset, when the relationship was known, my method performed comparably with other methods assuming the relationship. This shows the potential of my method for real Hi-C datasets where the relationship is unknown. The limitation of the method is that it has parameters requiring manual adjustment. I developed the second method to reconstruct 3D genome models. This method utilizes a commonly used function to translate interaction frequencies to physical distances to build 3D models. I proposed a novel way to derive soft constraints to handle inconsistency in the data and to make the method robust. Building 3D models at high resolution is a more challenging problem as the number of constraints is small and the feasible space is larger. I introduced a third method to build 3D chromosome models at high resolution. The method reconstructs models at low resolution and then uses them to guide the reconstruction of models at high resolution. The last part of my work is the development of a comprehensive tool with intuitive graphic user interface to analyze Hi-C data, reconstruct and analyze 3D models.

To reduce vibrations and adjust for thermal expansion, so-called damping slots and expansion slots are applied to circular saw blades. The slots affect the dynamic behavior of the saw blades by damping the vibration and altering the characteristic modes and frequencies. An FE(Finite Element) analysis of annular plates with simple arrangements of damping and expansion slots is performed to identify the mechanisms and improvement opportunities. This allows determining the relationship between slot parameters and the static and dynamic qualities of circular saw blades. The developed simulation models are validated using an analytical approach.

Abstract This paper intends to point out the possibility of using Internet photogrammetry to construct 3D models from the images obtained by means of UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles). The solutions may be useful for the inspection of ports as to the content of cargo, transport safety or the assessment of the technical infrastructure of port and quays. The solution can be a complement to measurements made by using laser scanning and traditional surveying methods. In this paper the authors recommend a solution useful for creating 3D models from images acquired by the UAV using non-metric images from digital cameras. The developed algorithms, created and presented software allows to generate 3D models through the Internet in two modes: anaglyph and display in shutter systems. The problem of 3D image generation in photogrammetry is solved by using epipolar images. The appropriate method was presented by Kreiling in 1976. However, it applies to photogrammetric images for which the internal orientation is known. In the case of digital images obtained with non-metric cameras it is required to use another solution based on the fundamental matrix concept, introduced by Luong in 1992. In order to determine the matrix which defines the relationship between left and right digital image it is required to have at least eight homologous points. To determine the solution it is necessary to use the SVD (singular value decomposition). By using the fundamental matrix the epipolar lines are determined, which makes the correct orientation of images making stereo pairs, possible. The appropriate mathematical bases and illustrations are included in the publication.

There have been a lot of studies on the history and development of Islamic education in Indonesia conducted by various groups. At least, there are three important aspects that should be noted in this study. First, from the aspect of the region, the history of Islamic education in South Sumatera which has never been comprehensively studied since the colonial era. Second, related to theoretical assumption, the question of whether the development of the system and the modern Islamic institution in Palembang during colonial era tend to be dominated by Muslim reformers or Muslim traditionalists. Third, from the point of view of methodology which tends to be descriptive and chronological, though recently there arises an analytical approach in which the system and the institution are not seen as things that can stand on their own, but are attached to social, religious, cultural, and political aspects. It is this approach which will be used in this study. Therefore, this study will try to look into the relationship between various social changes in Palembang and the system and Islamic educational institutions in the colonial era.

This article addresses the use of an analytical approach to making treatment decisions known as functional assessment. The usefulness of functional assessment with students with emotional/behavioral disorders is predicated on the assumption that the effectiveness of treatment increases if it matches the function of the target behavior(s). Discussion covers both indirect and direct measures of the relationship between the target behavior and variables that may be maintaining the behavior. Strategies for selecting and verifying hypothesis-driven treatment decisions are presented. In that the accumulated research has failed to dislodge some stumbling blocks to the use of functional assessment, several methodological solutions are offered for researchers and practitioners.

PFC2D(3D) is commercial software, which is commonly used to model the crack initiation of rock and rock-like materials. For the PFC2D(3D) numerical simulation, a proper set of microparameters need to be determined before the numerical simulation. To obtain a proper set of microparameters for PFC2D(3D) model based on the macroparameters obtained from physical experiments, a novel technique has been carried out in this paper. The improved simulated annealing algorithm was employed to calibrate the microparameters of the numerical simulation model of PFC2D(3D). A Python script completely controls the calibration process, which can terminate automatically based on a termination criterion. The microparameter calibration process is not based on establishing the relationship between microparameters and macroparameters; instead, the microparameters are calibrated according to the improved simulated annealing algorithm. By using the proposed approach, the microparameters of both the contact-bond model and parallel-bond model in PFC2D(3D) can be determined. To verify the validity of calibrating the microparameters of PFC2D(3D) via the improved simulated annealing algorithm, some examples were selected from the literature. The corresponding numerical simulations were performed, and the numerical simulation results indicated that the proposed method is reliable for calibrating the microparameters of PFC2D(3D) model.
