Abstract Data assimilation allows merging of different sources of data to estimate possible states of a system as it evolves in time. This therefore supports the idea of combining classical observations with Global Positioning System (GPS) observations to improve the integrity of first order geodetic controls in Nigeria. Given that these geodetic controls, which were established using traditional techniques and whose algorithms are still in use, the task of optimizing the coordinate values of these monuments to improve efficiency and accuracy in conventional geodetic operations around Nigeria is still a challenge. This study introduces the Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) technique for the modeling of these observations and their uncertainties in addition to exogenous noise, which is handled by an approximate set-valued state estimator. The proposed EKF provides a feasible linearization process in merging classical and GPS data collection modes as shown in our study. For each discrete time in the analysis step, it employs the Kalman gain computation, which attempts to weigh and balance uncertainties between the estimate and observation before proceeding to the analysis step. In this setup, the EKF constrains the system state in order to balance and strengthen the integrity of these first order monuments. The relationship of the derived system state with GPS coordinates (R2 = 0.85) and classical observations (R2 = 0.92) over Nigeria using a multi linear regression analysis is considerably strong. This outcome provides insight to the performance of the test algorithm and builds on the usefulness of data assimilation techniques in geodetic operations.

Pekin ducks, ranging in mass from 0.05 to 3.5 kg, were force-dived to determine the maximum tolerance to diving asphyxia. The size of the respiratory and blood oxygen storage compartments and oxygen utilization during the dive were also measured. By the end of a maximum dive, less than 4% of the original O2 store remained in the blood, whereas almost 25% remained in the respiratory system. In contrast, the level of arterial glucose did not change significantly during diving. The relationship of a number of measured variables to body mass was analysed using linear regression analysis on logio-transformed variables to generate power equations of the form Y = aXb (Y, any variable; X, body mass; a, mass coefficient; b, mass exponent). The mass exponent was 1.19 for the total oxygen stores and 0.64 for maximum diving duration. Using measurements of brain and heart mass and literature estimates of the scaling of O2 consumption, it was also possible to predict a mass exponent aerobic metabolism by these organs during a maximum dive. Allometric cancellation of mass exponents for O2 availability and predicted utilization resulted in a residual mass exponent almost identical to the measured value for maximum dive duration. Thus it is possible to predict the relationship of maximum underwater endurance to body mass in Pekin ducks from a knowledge of the oxygen consumption by, and availability to, the central aerobic organs.

Technological innovation as an engine for development requires a structural apparatus to its consolidation, reinforcing the approach of innovation systems, with emphasis on the role of universities. Therefore, considering that associated with this potential are present several innovative elements, such as the Technological Innovation Centers (NITs), the incubators of technology-based companies (IEBTs) and Technology Parks (ParqTecs), and given the lack of systematization National these instruments, the ultimate goal of this study was to analyze the environment for innovation in Brazilian federal universities, through the mapping of NITs, the IEBTs and ParqTecs associated with these institutions, further outlining the relationship of these instruments with technological variables (technological scholarships and patents). We used a qualitative and quantitative approach, descriptive nature, with collection of secondary data on institutional sites of universities and the adoption of simple linear regression analysis. The results realized all 63 Brazilian federal universities and revealed that the most widespread instrument between universities are the NITs, since its presence in 86% of the analyzed institutions. Have business incubators, idealized to strengthen interaction in innovation systems, are associated with 68% of universities, enabling regional development contexts. In relation to technology parks, it was found that, depending on the expenditure required for its implementation, only 26 universities are integrated into ParqTecs. The contributions of this study are concentrated in addition to the mapping done in highlighting the distinctions between the Brazilian regions in terms of scientific and technological structure and the importance of innovation ecosystems.

Background: High levels of intramuscular adipose tissue and low levels of capillarization are both predicative of low muscle and mobility function in older adults, however little is known about their relationship. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship of intramuscular adipose tissue and capillarization in older adults. Setting: An outpatient medical center. Participants: Forty-seven sedentary adults (age 59.9 ± 1.0 years, BMI 32.0 ± 0.7 kg/m2, VO2max 22.4 ± 0.7 ml/kg/min); Measurements: All participants underwent CT scans to determine intramuscular adipose tissue and muscle biopsies to determine capillarization in the mid-thigh. A step-wise hierarchical linear regression analysis was used to examine the contributions of age, sex, race, body mass index, 2-hour postprandial glucose, VO2max, and muscle capillarization, to the variability in intramuscular adipose tissue. Results: The predictors as a group accounted for 38.1% of the variance in intramuscular adipose tissue, with body mass index and capillarization each significantly contributing to the final model (P<0.001). The part correlation of body mass index with intramuscular adipose tissue was r = 0.47, and the part correlation of capillarization with intramuscular adipose tissue was r = 0.39, indicating that body mass index and capillarization explained 22.1%, and 15.2% of the variance in intramuscular adipose tissue. Conclusions: While increased muscle capillarization is typically thought of as a positive development, in some clinical conditions, such as tendinopathies, an increase in capillarization is part of the pathological process related to expansion of the extracellular matrix and fibrosis. This may also be an explanation for the surprising finding that high capillarization is related to high levels of intramuscular adipose tissue. Future studies are necessary to determine the relationship of changes in both capillarization and intramuscular adipose tissue after interventions, such as exercise.

Abstract Background: To investigate the relationship between corneal astigmatism and age, axial length (AL) among Chinese over fifty years old. Methods: This study enrolled 1,082 right eyes of age-related cataract patients over 50 years old in the clinic of Peking University People’s Hospital, Beijing, China. Axial length, magnitude and meridian of anterior corneal astigmatism were measured by IOLMaster. Restricted cubic splines and Spearman rank correlation coefficients were used to investigate the relationship of the magnitude of cornea astigmatism to age and AL. Power vector analysis method and linear regression analysis were used to assess the relationship of the meridian of astigmatism to age and AL. Results: For this study , mean age, AL, and corneal astigmatism value were 72.45 ±9.28 years, 23.90±1.93mm, and 1.12±0.74D, respectively. The magnitude of corneal astigmatism was 0.75D or higher in 63.8% eyes. The magnitude of corneal astigmatism increased with age after 65 years old. This correlation was statistically significant when AL was between 22.00mm and 26.00mm. The vector value in J 0 was inversely correlated with age. The mean vector value change from with-the-rule (WTR) to against-the-rule (ATR) corneal astigmatism was 0.22D/10 years during 50-65 years old and 0.15D/10 years during 65-85 years old, and was 0.22D/10 years in male and 0.12D/10 years in female, respectively. Conclusions: A large proportion of elderly Chinese cataract patients over 50 years old have corneal astigmatism more than 0.75D . There was a non-linear trend from WTR astigmatism towards ATR astigmatism with age, which was more obvious in elder age and in male. When AL is between 22.00mm and 26.00mm, the magnitude of corneal astigmatism increases with age after 65 years old.

Recently, the study of many kinds of weighted networks has received the attention of researchers in the scientific community. In this paper, first, a class of weighted star-composed networks with a weight factor is introduced. We focus on the network consistency in linear dynamical system for a class of weighted star-composed networks. The network consistency can be characterized as network coherence by using the sum of reciprocals of all nonzero Laplacian eigenvalues, which can be obtained by using the relationship of Laplacian eigenvalues at two successive generations. Remarkably, the Laplacian matrix of the class of weighted star-composed networks can be represented by the Kronecker product, then the properties of the Kronecker product can be used to obtain conveniently the corresponding characteristic roots. In the process of finding the sum of reciprocals of all nonzero Laplacian eigenvalues, the key step is to obtain the relationship of Laplacian eigenvalues at two successive generations. Finally, we obtain the main results of the first- and second-order network coherences. The obtained results show that if the weight factor is 1 then the obtained results in this paper coincide with the previous results on binary networks, otherwise the scalings of the first-order network coherence are related to the node number of attaching copy graph, the weight factor and generation number. Surprisingly, the scalings of the first-order network coherence are independent of the node number of initial graph. Consequently, it will open up new perspectives for future research.

The problem of managing plastic waste is the focus of the entire world today. Mismanaged plastics make a significant contribution to the increase in carbon emissions as a result of the release of plastic chemicals that are exposed to sunlight or are burned. The plastics industry which continues to experience an increase in production makes plastic waste continue to increase from year to year. This study aims to determine the relationship of the effect of the amount of plastic production on increasing the amount of co2 emission carbon at the global level using a simple linear regression analysis tool. The results showed that the production of plastics had a positive and significant effect, which meant that the higher the plastics produced by the plastics industry, the higher the amount of CO2 emission carbon. Similarly, the GDP per capita variable, showed positive and significant results. this means that the income pattern of the world community still has a positive effect on environmental degradation.

The kinetics of the hydrogen-ion-independent pathway for the replacement of fluoride in aqueous (NH3)5CoF2+ by H2O have been reinvestigated using a specific fluoride-ion electrode, with due regard for the concomitant autocatalytic loss of the ammine ligands. In perchlorate media of ionic strength 0.1 M, the first-order rate coefficient is 1.22 × 10−6 s−1 at 45°, and the kinetics are represented by ΔH* = 24.4 kcal mole−1 and ΔS* = −9 cal deg−1 mole−1 over the range 35–75° at least. The relationship of these data to those for the aquation of other species of the type ML5Xn+ is discussed.
