This paper is a study of the methodology of the translation of the Qur'an translation of Al-Quran dan terrjemahnya bahasa Batak Angkola. The problem to be answered is whether the translating team translates from Al-Qur'an (Arabic) or translates from the Indonesian language published by the Ministry of Religion. In addition, This research also answers how the methodology of translating the Qur'an and the translation of the Angkola Batak Language. The method used in this study is by exploring, reviewing the literatures and also interviewing the translation of the book. As a result, the methodology applied in the Qur'an and the translation of the Angkola Batak Language is the methodology of word-for-word translation, literal translation, semantic translation, and communicative translation.

This study investigates the general translation methods preference in memoir translations published by Warungsatekamu until April 2018 and what are the features of each translation method. This study uses translation method categories proposed by Newmark (1988). The data are twelve memoir translation texts which originally were written in English, and had been translated by Warungsatekamu’s translator into Indonesian. The result of translation methods analysis shows that there are seven translation methods applied. They are communicative translation method, free translation method, idiomatic translation method, faithful translation method, semantic translation method, word-for-word translation method and literal translation method. What influences these seven methods to be applied are the specific features of each translation methods.

This research tells about translation method of preposition. Preposition is the word that simple to translated, but it is complicate to find the good word, because there are so many meaning in dictionary. Even the translator does not always get the meaning from dictionary. This purpose of research is analyzing the translation of simple and complex preposition used in “J.D. Salinger’s Novel The Catcher in The Rye. And to find out the kinds of translation methods in translating of simple and complex preposition on it. The method of research uses descriptive qualitative method. Technique of collecting data, the researcher uses documentation. Technique of analyzing data, the researcher uses constant comparative method by Glaser and Strauss with four steps are data reduction, data categorization, data synthetization and hypothesis. The result of research is translator use four translation method of preposition. There are literal translation, semantic translation, free translation and communicative translation. mostly translator uses literal translation. Preposition has many meaning in dictionary, that’s why there are no word-for-word because researcher things that translator is process the translation of preposition. There are many kinds of preposition. The researcher dividing become two parts, are simple and complex (Randolph Quirk,1985). Simple preposition mostly available than complex in the novel. In this study, we compare and contrast the titles of English pop songs with those of Vietnamese translated versions based on Newmark’s model. 65 titles in the original and 65 titles in the target language were chosen to compare and contrast with the purpose of seeing how many titles are retained and how many titles are novel in terms of content. To reach its aim, the study used two main methods including comparison and description, which were based on Newmark’s model. In addition, statistical and analysis methods were also applied to examining the titles. The research findings showed that in general 51 titles are retained in the target language through 5 translation methods: literal translation, semantic translation, communicative translation, free translation and adaption. 10 titles do not carry any characteristics in comparison with the original. The study also revealed that translators used mainly free translation to convert the titles from English into Vietnamese.

Purpose - This research aimed to describe, the techniques, methods and ideology used by the author of children’s bilingual books. Design/methodology/approach - This study used descriptive qualitative in this research, in which the author used Molina & Albir and Newmark for the basic theory. Findings - The author found that the bilingual books' author mostly used literal translation as the technique. Then, for the methods, the most frequent was a word-for-word and literal translation. It meant that the author's ideology was foreignization because the bilingual books' author tended to maintain the word of the source language. Originality/value - The concluded that literal or word-for-word translation in translating stories for children is not suitable, since the sentences in the translated version tended to be complicated which is not suitable for teachers, parents, and children especially. The suggested for the bilingual books' authors use a communicative translation so that it can be easily read and understood. Paper type – Research paper

This study was conducted by applying descriptive qualitative method. The source of data was taken from the folklore book and interviews with the translator of the folktale Putri Lopian. The technique for analyzing the data is descriptive qualitative research. The results of this research showed that there were 9% sentences by literal translation, 10 sentences by semantic translation, 5% sentences by adaptation translation, 31% sentences by free translation, 1% sentence by idiomatic translation and 10% sentences by communicative translation. The total number of sentences from the data consisted of 76% sentences. It was found there were seven out of eight types of translation methods Literal, Faithful, Semantic, Adaptation, Free, Idiomatic and Communicative uses based on the text in the Folktale. The reason why the translator used free translation as the dominant method was that he did not follow any theories or approaches of translation when he was translating the text; he thought that the audience was a child. so that he arranged the language to be easy to understand.  Keywords: folktale book; translation methods; text

The research dealt with Metaphor Sentences. The aims of this study were: (1) to find out the translation strategies of metaphors are used in The Magic of Thinking Big and (2) to describe the translation strategies maintain metaphors in The Magic of Thinking Big. The research was conducted by using qualitative design. The data of this study were sentences. The data were collected through documentary technique and the instrument was the documentary sheet. The technique of data analysis was descriptive. The finding of this study revealed that: (1) The metaphor in The magic of Thinking Big were translated by applying six translation strategies, namely: word for word Translation (5.3%) lieral translation (4.3%), faithful translation (57.5%), Free translation (3.2%), communicative translation (30.5%) and discursive creation was found (2.2%). (2) The metaphors are maintained that found in the Magic of Thinking Big are original metaphors turned into another original metaphors, stock metaphors turned into another stock metaphors, adapted metaphors turned into adapted metaphors, dead metaphors turned into dead metaphors, original metaphor turned into stock metaphor, stock metaphor turned into original metaphor, meanwhile, 10 original metaphors and 1 dead metaphor are no longer classified as metaphors. Language has special characteristic that is metaphor sentences, therefore in the case of translating of metaphor sentences in which their concept in unknown for readers, the translator often faces the problems to find out the translation strategies to translate metaphor in a source language (SL) and how the metaphor sentences are maintained in the target language (TL).Keywords : Metaphor, Translation Strategies, Maintain Metaphor

This paper mainly discusses the application of Newmark's theories of communicative and semantic translation in automobile advertisement translation. After analyzing the translation examples of automobile advertisement text, title and trademark, the following conclusions are naturally drawn. The combination of communicative and semantic translation can guide translation practice more effectively. Semantic translation theory is preferred for automobile manual translation, while communicative translation theory is more suitable for automobile brand and slogan translation. Therefore, in order to achieve the intended effect of automobile advertisement, it is better to combine semantic translation with communicative translation in automobile advertisement translation.

In Indonesia, the hagiographical book of Shaikh ʻAbd al-Qādir al-Jailānī has many versions of translation. One of it is an-Nūr al-burhānī, a Javanese translation by Kyai Muslih al-Marāqī. Unlike other Javanese translations, an-Nūr al-burhānī is not merely a translation but can be considered a new book, in which the translator added some new information and opinion in it. Therefore, the book is interesting to be investigated deeply to find scientific information about the content of the book, the technique, method, and ideology of translation that are adopted and applied by the translator. Using content analysis, the study finds that the book consists of al-Jailānī’s journey of life, his miracles and teachings. The other findings prove that the translator has implemented various techniques of translation such as calque, borrowing, description, amplification-addition, and adaptation techniques. The translator has tried to make the TT (Target Text) easy to be understood by Javanese people, but he tends to apply literal (linguistic transcodification) method rather than interpretative-communicative (translation of the sense) method. As a result, the TT is still influenced by the structure of Arabic as SL (Source Text) and not natural in everyday use of Javanese language. Thus, it can be inferred that the translator more dominantly adopts the ideology of foreignization than domestication. However, what the translator does is more advanced than the other Javanese translators, who usually use only the word for word or literal translation method. This is the uniqueness in translating al-Jailānī’s hagiography or manāqib.
