The chapter starts with an introduction to global companies and the geocentric culture. Then a review works around strategic leadership is followed by a discussion of the role of strategic leadership in building and sustaining the geocentric culture.

This article review Islamic law quoted from jurists’ opinion and legal experts on the use of auction trading theory in the collateral sale. Every financial transaction in Islamic banking required a guarantee. It is intended to save bank funds if the customer defaults. Based on constitutional act Number 4 of 1996 of mortgage rights, Islamic banks have the right to confiscate the asset (guarantees) of a customer who has reached the due date without intention to pay. However, the bank cannot carry out unilateral execution to make direct sales. The formal procedures which banks must follow to disburse funds from customer guarantees are usually long and often meet various obstacles. This article analyzes normatively and empirically the bail auction guarantees implementation on Islamic banking in Aceh based on the Islamic law concept from the al Quran, Hadith, and the scholars’ Ijma’. Although conventional law is still used in the auction rules, the implementation of guarantees as applied to Islamic banking has adopted many Islamic laws. However, in the practice, there are still many problems that arise from the Islamic law scope which uphold the philosophy of maslahah and the concept of justice. The paper, therefore, employs qualitative approach and secondary date to investigate Shariah perspective against execution of collateral auctions on Islamic banking institutions in Aceh, Indonesia.

ABSTRACT Digital banking and the accountability of good zakat can increase interest in paying zakat on the benchmarking of sharia. On the other hand, technological advances such as the use of artificial intelligence make the role of human resources shifted. Even though human resources (labor) are one of the potential sources of zakat revenue. Zakat literacy and interest in paying zakat are also low in Islamic banking. The researcher did not find zakat data in statistical reports on Islamic banks nationally. It seems that it was only found in the presentation of reports about the sources and uses of private Islamic bank zakat funds. This can lead to the perception that Islamic banks do not optimally manage zakat. Through literature studies, researchers provide a solution to how zakat management can be done to increase interest in paying zakat but can still maintain the use of human resources (work). The conclusion obtained is that interest in paying zakat on Islamic banks cannot be maximally realized if it is not supported by internal efforts. Efforts that can be made are transparency of zakat reports, increased literacy, acceleration and optimization of digital management of Islamic bank zakat.

In recent years, the terms ‘corporate/organizational culture’ and ‘ranking’ have become important reference points for the Russian system of university management and criteria for assessing the quality of higher education. However, these terms are rarely considered as interrelated, which can be explained mainly by the lack of studies assessing the role of corporate culture as a tool for improving universities’ positions in the international rankings. Nevertheless, the available data allow to draw some conclusions about characteristics of the corporate culture of the leaders of the world university rankings (it is a combination of the elements of market, adhocracy and clan types of organizational culture), which are not yet typical for classical Russian universities with the dominance of the elements of clan and bureaucratic/hierarchical types of corporate culture. The article presents the results of two surveys conducted in the RUDN University on the basis of CameronQuinn methodology. They revealed the framework of competing values and showed that over the past decade the share of bureaucratic/hierarchical type decreased due to an increase in the share of market and adhocracy types of culture that are typical for the leaders of world university rankings.

This paper examines the moderating role of Islamic corporate governance on the link between sustainable business practices and the firm’s financial performance. A post-crisis period sustainability data for the decade of 2008–2017 was collected by the study. For data collection, this study used the weighted content method. The Generalized Method of Moments (GMM) statistical test was used for empirical testing. The results of the study found that the link between sustainable business practices with the firm’s financial performance measured from the shareholders’ and the management’s perspective is positive, while the subjected link measured from the market perspective was found to be insignificant. This implies that the market stakeholders of the Islamic banks are reluctant for their bank’s spending on sustainable business practices. Interestingly, the insignificant link between sustainable business practices and market performance became significant with the moderating role of Shariah governance and managerial ownership. It shows that the moderating role of Shariah governance and managerial ownership is giving confidence to market stakeholders of Islamic banks for receiving a higher financial return through sustainable business practices initiatives. These results may provide insights for several policymakers of the Islamic banking industry about integrating vital sustainability practices in their business models and about the balanced moderating role of Islamic corporate governance in the link between sustainable business practice and the firm’s financial performance. It provides a roadmap to the Islamic banking industry for efficient management of sustainability practices from an Islamic perspective and subsequently improvement of financial performance through it.
