Abstract The aim of this study was to examine the effect of human urine on soil quality and salinity through repeated applications, and compare it with the effects of synthetic fertilizer and non-fertilized treatments. Six different fertilizer mixtures were applied to pots of head cabbage: 100% tap water, 100% urine, 1:1 urine and tap water, 1:2 urine and tap water, 1:3 urine and tap water, and synthetic fertilizer. The study design was completely randomized design (CRD) with three replications of pot-based experiments. The growth and yield parameters of producing head cabbage (Brassica oleracea) among treatments were compared. Soil residual test of the optimum treatment was also conducted for the optimum treatment to examine the effect on its characteristics. The optimum yield was obtained from the application of 1:3 of urine and water, and comparable to the synthetic fertilizer (F = 21.78; p = 0.964). The difference in the electrical conductivity of soil was statistically significant (F = 2.324; p = 0.049) after three rounds of applications which should be considered during urine fertilizer utilization. Generally, urine contains nutrients, which can substitute synthetic fertilizer, at a dilution factor of three. However, education should be delivered to enhance public acceptance and to create awareness on urine collection, storage and application for sustainable utilization.

Soybean demand in the market today has not been matched by domestic production. Many of the problems that cause insufficient production of soy, one of which is the drought affecting soybean growth and yield. Efforts should be made to overcome the drought is to provide soybean varieties tolerant to drought stress. This study aims to assess the effect of the difference in intensity of drought stress on the growth of some soybean varieties. This study uses a completely randomized design (CRD) factorial with two factors, the first factor and the second factor soybean varieties drought stress levels. Results showed significant of lowering the value of RGR and NAR. The higher the level of drought stress will decrease soybean growth. Tolerance limits for each variety is at 80% moisture content.

[EFFECT OF WEED COMPOST AND SYNTHETIC FERTILIZER DOSAGE ON TOMATO GROWTH AND YIELD (Lycopersicum esculentum Mill.)]. The growth and yield of tomato plants are influenced by fertilizer and nutrient content in the soil. This study aims to investigate the effect of a combination of synthetic fertilizer and weed compost on the growth and yield of tomato plants. The study was conducted in November 2016 through June 2017 in Agronomy, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Bengkulu, at an altitude of ± 10 m above sea level using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD). The treatments consisted of synthetic fertilizer at a rate of 180 kg/ha N, 150 kg/ha P2O5 and 100 kg/ha K2O (control), grass compost 30 , 40 and 50 tons/ha, 50% control + grass compost 15 tons/ha, 50% control + 20 tons/ha grass compost and 50% control + 25 tons/ha grass compost. The results revealed that the vegetative growth of tomato plants fertilized with grass compost 30 tons/ha and a combination of grass compost + 50% control did not differ from control treatment. Tomato yield fertilized with grass compost 30 tons/ha and a combination of 50% control + 15 tons/ha grass compost was higher than the control treatment. Therefore, 15 tons/ha of grass compost can reduce the dose of synthetic fertilizer by 50%.

Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the growth and yield of teak (Tectona grandis) stands at different spacing and in different soil classes. Twelve spacing were evaluated in an Inceptisol and Oxisol, in plots with an area of 1,505 or 1,548 m2, arranged in a completely randomized design with nine replicates. The teak trees were measured at 26, 42, 50, and 78 months of age. Total tree height was less affected by spacing. Mean square diameter was greater in wider spacing, whereas basal area and total volume with bark were greater in closer spacing. An increase in volume with bark per tree was observed with the increase of useful area per plant. For teak trees, growth stagnation happens earlier, the growth rate is higher in closer spacing, and the plants grow more in the Inceptisol than in the Oxisol.
