Objetivo: analisar as competências necessárias para realização de dimensionamento e escalas de pessoal de enfermagem por enfermeiros. Metodologia: estudo quantitativo, do tipo exploratório-descritivo, realizado com 54 enfermeiros de um hospital universitário do sul do Brasil. A coleta de dados foi realizada através de um questionário estruturado autoaplicável, validado mediante validade de face, conteúdo e constructo. Para a análise de dados, utilizou-se a estatística descritiva e inferencial. Resultados: as atitudes foram identificadas como as competências mais importantes para a realização de dimensionamento e escalas de pessoal de enfermagem. Entre as habilidades, foi atribuída maior importância para a resolução de conflitos entre a equipe. Os enfermeiros se mostraram indiferentes quanto ao conhecimento dos custos gerados pelo cuidado. Conclusão: a análise das competências que fundamentam a realização do dimensionamento e de escalas de pessoal de enfermagem oportunizou o reconhecimento de importantes subsídios para qualificar a formação profissional e o trabalho da enfermagem.DESCRITORES: Enfermagem, Recursos Humanos de Enfermagem, Administração de Recursos Humanos em Saúde.SIZING AND NURSES SCALES: SKILLS OF NURSESObjective: to analyze the skills required to perform nursing staff scales and scales. ABSTRACT Qualitative, exploratory-descriptive study. The aim of this study was to discover how nursing professionals perceive the communication during shift handover and its repercussion in pediatric patient safety. This study was performed at a Pediatric Inpatient Unit of a University Hospital in the South of Brazil. Data was collected by a semi-structured interview, involving 32 nursing professionals. To analyze the data, thematic analysis was used. Data was grouped in categories: shift handover and its interface with communication. The results evidenced the importance of shift handover, in which effective communication is essential for safe care. However, greater objectivity is needed in the information transmission, the time used needs to be reduced and the shift handover records need to be systemized.

Background: Schwarz (1992) held that all people have personal values systems which guide them. However, the degree to which nursing staff can implement personal values in the workplace can vary depending on environment and institutional policy. This study examined the personal values of nursing staff and the gap between values and their implementation at work. Method: This was a quantitative descriptive study, using demographic information and a structured questionnaire, Schwartz's Shorter Value Survey (SSVS), for examining the degree of implementation of personal values in clinical practice. Results: 425 respondents from different faiths assigned higher importance to certain values than to others, with demographic factors influencing decisions. Conclusion and Implications: Knowledge of the dominant personal values held by nursing staff may contribute to the organization's ability to cultivate and maintain the human resources within it. Institutions should be aware of possible gaps between the importance of values and the degree of their implementation.

OBJECTIVE: to identify factors which constrain or determine the return to sexual activity in the puerperium. METHOD: exploratory and descriptive study undertaken in a university hospital in the South of Brazil. Fifteen women who had recently given birth, who received a consultation with the nurse in the period August - October 2011, took part in the study. Data was collected after the consultation had finished through semi-structured interviews, in which the women who had recently given birth were asked about the return to sexual activity and the feelings involved in this process. RESULTS: the principal determinant/constraint for return to sexual activity in the post-natal period was the fear of a new pregnancy. Fear of feeling pain, permission from the health professional, shame of their own bodies and changes in libido emerged as constraining and/or determinant factors in the thematic analysis. CONCLUSION: it is considered fundamental for the issue of contraception to be addressed with the woman/couple during the pre-natal consultation, so that there may be opportunities for reflection and dialog prior to the critical time itself.

ABSTRACT Objective: To understand the perception of nurse managers about the functionally-readapted worker. Methods: Descriptive study with qualitative approach, whose data were collected in from November 2016 to April 2017, through interviews with 14 nurse managers of a university hospital. The content analysis analysis was applied to interpret the speeches. Results: The reports converged into three categories, which revealed the impact on the management of the nursing staff, the management of the limitations of the readapted worker, and the regular follow-up planning for him. Final considerations: Nurse managers are clear that readapted workers need special attention, so that their potentialities mat be maximized, respecting the workers’ limitations. Readapted workers must be encouraged to resume their self-esteem, identity, autonomy, and feel socially included.

Objective: to identify the main ethical problems and how these relate to the moral sensitivity of nurses working in a general medicine ward. Method: this qualitative, exploratory, and descriptive study was conducted in a university hospital located in the south of Brazil. A total of 18 nurses working in a general medicine ward were interviewed. A semi-structured interview script was used, and data were analyzed using discursive textual analysis. Results: nurses considered the main ethical problems to include conflicts at the institutional level, situations involving conflicts with patients and/or family members, and conflicts within the staff. The perception of nurses and how they deal with these problems relate to moral sensitivity. Two categories emerged: experiencing ethical problems, and relationship with moral sensitivity. Conclusion: because of the multidimensional nature of moral sensitivity, it trains and enables nurses to recognize and deal with ethical problems faced in clinical practice so that nurses become able to make fair and prudent decisions, improving the quality of nursing care.

OBJECTIVE: To know the strategies of resistance adopted by nursing staff, facing situations of moral distress, from an ethical perspective. METHOD: The authors conducted qualitative research through semi-structured interviews, with fifteen nursing staff members of a university hospital in the extreme south of Brazil, using textual discourse analysis and the theoretical reference of Foucault. RESULTS: Two categories were constructed: denial of oneself and the other - in which one perceives that the nursing staff can perform actions that are governed predominantly by immobility and conformism, avoiding confrontations with whoever represents power in situations that provoke moral distress in them; possibility to care for oneself and for the other - in which nursing workers in situations that provoke moral distress for them exercise power and endurance. CONCLUSION: it was perceived that some professionals seem to use ethical coping strategies, in order to ensure and preserve their professional values. However, often the choice of some nursing professionals may be to relapse into immobility and the absence of building strategies of endurance. This situation may represent their reduced exercise of power and insufficient resistance in the face of ethical problems, contributing to the intensification of their invisibility in the area of health.

RESUMOObjetivo: analisar os incidentes ocorridos durante o transporte intra-hospitalar dos pacientes na perspectiva dos condutores/maqueiros. Método: estudo quantitativo, exploratório, descritivo, realizado com 10 maqueiros de um hospital universitário. A coleta de dados foi realizada por meio de um formulário estruturado, com análise descritiva dos dados. Resultados: 60% dos trabalhadores relataram participação em cursos de capacitação; dentre os incidentes ocorridos durante o transporte intra-hospitalar, identificou-se a desconexão de O2 (oxigênio), de sonda, de equipo de soro, quebra de maca, paciente com parada cardíaca, crise de vômitos e quedas. Conclusão: os incidentes relatados pelos maqueiros, advindos do transporte do paciente, configuram-se em uma inconformidade com as diretrizes, pois colocam os trabalhadores em situação de vulnerabilidade a estes incidentes. Resumo: Trata-se de um estudo descritivo a partir do uso da metodologia da Grounded Theory, traduzida para português como Teoria Fundamentada nos Dados (TFD). Na coleta de dados foi aplicado um questionário semiestruturado com 22 enfermeiros professores integrantes de seis instituições de ensino superior no período de agosto a dezembro de 2015. A análise e a interpretação dos conteúdos transcritos foram desenvolvidas de acordo com a proposta metodológica da TFD e utilizou-se o software ATLAS/ti como suporte às interpretações e organização documental. A análise dos dados resultou em quatro subcategorias: formação docente do enfermeiro; processo ensino-aprendizagem; metodologias e estratégias de ensino e as interfaces das tendências progressistas – crítico social dos conteúdos. Este estudo permitiu concluir que o método da TFD é relevante para a análise qualitativa, por seu rigor analítico e metodológico, e tem contribuído significativamente para expansão do conhecimento a qual permite tratar a abordagem de forma interpretativa e sistemática.Palavras-chave: Análise de dados; Prática pedagógica; Pesquisa qualitativa; Teoria fundamentada. Pedagogical practice study in nursing training using a Grounded TheoryAbstract: This is a descriptive study using the Grounded Theory methodology, translated into Portuguese as Teoria Fundamentada nos Dados (TFD). In the data collection, a semi-structured questionnaire was applied with 22 teaching nurses from six higher education institutions from August to December 2015. The analysis and interpretation of the transcribed contents were developed according to the GT methodological proposal. The ATLAS/ti software was used as support for interpretations and documentary organization. The data analysis resulted in four subcategories: Nurses teacher-training; Teaching-learning process; Teaching methodologies and strategies, and the interfaces of progressive trends - social critical of content. This study allowed us to conclude that the GT method is relevant to the qualitative analysis, due to its analytical and methodological rigor, and has contributed significantly for the expansion of the knowledge that permits to treat the approach in an interpretative and systematic way.Keywords: Data analysis; Pedagogical practice; Qualitative reserach; Grounded theory.

This study evaluated the nursing workload in an inpatient unit of a university hospital. This descriptive study applied the Nursing Activities Score (NAS) over the course of 30 consecutive days. A total of 1,080 observations were obtained from the medical files of 156 patients. The average scored obtained in the NAS instrument was 47.31%. Considering that each single NAS score corresponds to 0.24 hours, an average of 11.35 hours of nursing care was required. This amount of hours correspond to the profile of inpatients demanding semi-intensive and intensive care, suggesting that the NAS can be used to evaluate the workload of the nursing staff in this unit.

Objetivo: Investigar o conhecimento dos técnicos de enfermagem acerca do banho no recém-nascido. Metodologia:Estudo descritivo-exploratório e observacional, com abordagem quantitativa, desenvolvido com 15 técnicos deenfermagem em um hospital universitário na cidade de Santa Cruz-RN. Os dados foram coletados através daobservação sistemática e de questionário semiestruturado, analisados através do Excel. A pesquisa foi aprovada peloComitê de Ética e Pesquisa (CEP) sob CAAE nº 28721814.8.0000.5568. Resultados: O conhecimento sobre o banhoveio da prática diária. Eles reconhecem a importância do banho para a higienização. Realizam o banho de aspersãoe poucos oferecem o banho humanizado. Conclusões: Profi ssionais necessitam de capacitações direcionadas aobanho humanizado do recém-nascido para sistematizar a sua prática e desenvolver uma assistência.Palavras-chave: Recém-nascido; Humanização da Assistência; Enfermagem.
