: Madhuca longifolia (J.Koenig) J.F.Macbr. belongs to the family Sapotaceae, also commonly known as mahua or butternut tree. Each part of the plant is known for its unique medicinal properties. This review aims to enhance the existence of application and extend the therapeutic potential of Madhuca species in Pharmaceuticals, cosmeceuticals, agriculture and the food industry. Madhuca longifolia and all its products are widely used as a traditional and herbal medicine system. Even though they are used traditionally by a population of local areas, the potential of therapeutic existence is still uncovered. This systematic review is an exhaustive compilation of detailed data on phytochemistry, wide ethnopharmacological uses, medicinal properties and commercial application of mahua in different sectors. With the potential of spasmogenic, oxytocic, uterotonic, anti-bacterial, anti implantation, anti-tumor, anti-progestational, antiestrogenic activity against menorrhagia and anti-cancer, and many more. M. longifolia is also used in stomach ache, snake bite, scorpion bite, bone fractures, treatment of piles, joint pains, increase lactation, etc. It can contribute towards the development of the pharmaceutical sector and food industry too. Positively it will provide a path for future research for the development of herbal drugs and other products for agriculture and the food industry.

: Mimosa pudica Linn is an integrated part of Traditional Medicines Systems of India, China, Africa, Korea and America. It has been used from centuries in traditional medicines to cure different diseases like fever, diabetes, constipation, jaundice, ulcers, biliousness, and dyspepsia. It is an important ingredient of wide class of herbal formulations. To assess the scientific evidence for therapeutic potential of Mimosa pudica Linn and to identify the gaps for future research. The available information on the ethno-medicinal uses, phytochemistry, pharmacology and toxicology of Mimosa pudica Linn was collected via a library and electronic searches in Sci-Finder, Pub-Med, Science Direct, Google Scholar for the period, 1990 to 2020. In traditional medicinal systems, variety of ethno-medicinal applications of Mimosa pudica Linn has been noticed. Phytochemical investigation has resulted in identification of 40 well known chemical constituents, among which alkaloids, phenols and flavionoids are the predominant groups. The crude extracts and isolates have exhibited a wide spectrum of in vitro and in vivo pharmacological activities including anti-cancer, anti-inflammation, osteoporosis, neurological disorders, hypertension etc.. To quantify the Mimosa pudica Linn and its formulations, analytical techniques like HPLC and HPTLC has shown dominancy with good range of recovery and detection limit. Mimosa pudica Linn is the well-known herb since an ancient time. The pharmacological results supported some of the applications of Mimosa pudica Linn in traditional medicine systems. Perhaps, the predominance of alkaloids, phenols and flavionoids are responsible for the pharmacological activities the crude extracts and isolates of Mimosa pudica Linn. Further, there is need to isolate and evaluate the active chemical constituents of Mimosa pudica Linn having significant medicinal values. In future, it is important to study the exact mechanism associated with the phytochemicals of Mimosa pudica Linn especially on anti-cancer activities. Notably, toxicity studies on Mimosa pudica Linn are limited which are to be explored in future for the safe application of Mimosa pudica Linn and its formulations.

Limonin is a natural tetracyclic triterpenoid compound, which widely exists in Euodia rutaecarpa (Juss.) Benth., Phellodendron chinense Schneid., and Coptis chinensis Franch. Its extensive pharmacological effects have attracted considerable attention in recent years. However, there is no systematic review focusing on the pharmacology, toxicity, and pharmacokinetics of limonin. Therefore, this review aimed to provide the latest information on the pharmacology, toxicity, and pharmacokinetics of limonin, exploring the therapeutic potential of this compound and looking for ways to improve efficacy and bioavailability. Limonin has a wide spectrum of pharmacological effects, including anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory and analgesic, anti-bacterial and anti-virus, anti-oxidation, liver protection properties. However, limonin has also been shown to lead to hepatotoxicity, renal toxicity, and genetic damage. Moreover, limonin also has complex impacts on hepatic metabolic enzyme. Pharmacokinetic studies have demonstrated that limonin has poor bioavailability, and the reduction, hydrolysis, and methylation are the main metabolic pathways of limonin. We also found that the position and group of the substituents of limonin are key in affecting pharmacological activity and bioavailability. However, some issues still exist, such as the mechanism of antioxidant activity of limonin not being clear. In addition, there are few studies on the toxicity mechanism of limonin, and the effects of limonin concentration on pharmacological effects and toxicity are not clear, and no researchers have reported any ways in which to reduce the toxicity of limonin. Therefore, future research directions include the mechanism of antioxidant activity of limonin, how the concentration of limonin affects pharmacological effects and toxicity, finding ways to reduce the toxicity of limonin, and structural modification of limonin—one of the key methods necessary to enhance pharmacological activity and bioavailability.

Hibiscus sinensis is an annual/Perennial plant belongs to Malvaceae family commonly referred to as "roselle" famous for its medicinal value found world wide and native to West and East Africa, South-East Asia, Northeastern India. Roselle is cultivated in humid and warm climate. The plant consist phytoconstituents like malic, citric, tartaric, allo-hydroxycitric acid also reach in vitamin C, Vitamin A. Roselle is popular for it's therapeutic and nutritional value. Seeds, leaves, fruits and roots are utilized in herbal medicine for hair growth treatment. The Roselle, having various medically important compounds called photochemical, is documented for its nutritional and medicinal properties. Many parts of Roselle including seeds, leaves, fruits and roots are utilized in various foods also as in herbal medicine as a possible non-pharmacological treatment. In the treatment of various medical conditions, including several cardiovascular diseases, helmentic disease and cancer, different extracts from Roselle play an important role. Phytochemical research has reported that flavonoids, tannins, terpenoids, saponins, and alkaloids are the most bioactive compounds responsible for their medicinal effects. Experiments from recent studies have shown that different types of extracts from all Hibiscus. The components of rosa sinensis showed a good range of beneficial effects, such as hypotensive, anti-pyritic, anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, antioxidant, anti-bacterial, anti-diabetic, wound healing, and abortifacient activities. Hibiscus rosa sinensis has been utilized in many herbal mix and drinks. This review plan to highlight the therapeutic application of Hibiscus rosa sinensis.

Objective: This review is intended to investigate the published report regarding phytochemical, ethnomedicinal, and pharmacological activities and put forth the therapeutic potential of Duranta repens Linn. (D. repens). It belongs to the family Verbenaceae, one of the therapeutically important plants, broadly distributed all throughout the world. It is commonly referred as golden dewdrop, angel whisper, pigeon berry, or skyflower.Methods: I utilized logical writing and scientific literature regarding D. repens by referring search engine such as Springerlink, ScienceDirect, SciFinder, PubMed, Scopus, Google Scholar, and BioMed Central as well as relevant books, websites, scientific publications, and dissertations as a source of information that provided an up-to-date review. My work on morphology and extraction of various phytochemicals and their evaluation has helped to provide an insightful account of D. repens.Results: Phytochemical profiling of these species revealed the presence of some imperative phytochemicals such as alkaloids, flavonoids, glycosides, phenolics, saponins, steroids, tannins and terpenoids as the basis of its valuable therapeutic properties. The other imperative phytoconstituents which contribute to the therapeutic properties are durantol, repennoside, repenins, and scutellarein. The pharmacological activities exhibited by D. repens as antimicrobial, antioxidant, and insecticide properties are attributed to the presence of valuable bioactive phytoconstituents.Conclusion: Considering these facts, I endeavored to present a comprehensive review enlightening the phytochemistry and pharmacological activities of plant D. repens. Future research can be directed to an extensive investigation about phytochemistry, clinical trials, pharmacokinetics, and acquiring safety data so as to add new dimensions to the therapeutic utilization of D. repens and other Duranta species.

Thymus vulgaris belongs to the family of Lamiaceae, which are flowering plants with aroma. Plant of Thyme grows in the Mediterranean region. Due to essential oils extracted from the leaves of the thyme, which gives aromatic and therapeutic properties. Besides many other health benefits, thyme possesses many medicinal properties. Essential oils of thyme are also crucial in pharmaceutical, cosmeceuticals, and nutraceuticals sectors. Significant oil components contain carvacrol, p-cymene, thymol, and γ-terpinene of thyme's most important ones. Thymol is a naturally-occurring constituent of thyme. It is a 10-64% major part of the thyme oil. It is a monoterpene derivative of cymene and isomer of carvacrol. These constituents have potent anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, and antioxidant activities. These are also beneficial in treating cancers, reduces inflammation, antimicrobial, antispasmodic, immunomodulator, and growth enhancers. It also helps to improve mouth infection. The essential oil of Thymus is safe and used as a natural preservative. Essential oils present in thyme are extracted through many different extraction techniques. Hydro-distillation, steam distillation, hydro diffusion or solvent extraction, and microwave‐assisted extraction are the most common extraction techniques. Plants aroma isolates are used in many food and fragrance companies. The most widely used means of producing this aroma is constituting organic solvent.

This review is intended to investigate the published report regarding phytochemical, ethnomedicinal, and pharmacological activities and put forth the therapeutic potential of Artabotrys hexapetalus (L. f.) Bhandari. (A. hexapetalus). It belongs to the family Annonaceae, one of the therapeutically important plants, broadly distributed throughout the world. An extensive review of the literature available in various recognized databases including logical writing and scientific literature, search engines such as Springerlink, ScienceDirect, SciFinder, PubMed, Scopus, Google Scholar, and BioMed Central as well as relevant books, websites, scientific publications, and dissertations were utilized as a source of information that provided an up-to-date review. Phytochemical profiling of these species revealed the presence of some imperative phytochemicals alkaloids, terpenoids, anthraquinones, butyrolactones, flavonoids, neolignans, phenolic compounds, and leucoanthocyanins as the basis of its valuable therapeutic properties. The other imperative phytoconstituents which contribute to the therapeutic properties are isoamericanin A, isoamericanol, americanin, artabotricinol and artabotriol, β-unsaturated-β-butyrolactones, arapetaloside taxifolin, apigenin-7-O-apiosylglucoside, glucoluteolin, and artabotrine. The pharmacological activities exhibited by Artabotrys hexapetalus as antimicrobial, antileishmanial, antioxidant, antifungal, antifertility, and anthelmintic properties are attributed to the presence of valuable bioactive phytoconstituents. Considering these facts an effort was made to present a comprehensive review enlightening the taxonomical, phytochemical, and pharmacological activities of plant Artabotrys hexapetalus. Future research can be directed to an extensive investigation about phytochemistry, clinical trials, pharmacokinetics, and acquiring safety data to add new dimensions to the therapeutic utilization of Artabotrys hexapetalus and other Artabotrys species.

Since ancient times human utilized the nature to cure various ailments. The knowledge of medicinal plants resulted in the development of various indigenous systems of medicine worldwide. Serendipitous discovery as well as scientific approach on the reason for medicinal properties of plants gave the knowledge of chemical constituents such as secondary metabolites in plants. Wrightia tinctoria which is commonly known as ‘Danthapala’ is a known potential medicinal plant, the leaves of which is traditionally used in the treatment of psoriasis and non-specific dermatitis in Siddha and Ayurvedic systems of medicine and distributed in tropical region belongs to the family Apocynaceae. This plant is beneficial for the treatment of dandruff, various scalp and skin disorders. Phytochemical and pharmacological investigation on the various parts of the plant showed anti-ulcer, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anthelmintic, anti-cancer, anti-dandruff, wound healing and anti-anxiety activity. The current review focus on providing an update on the recent pharmacological and phytochemical investigations on the plant by researchers around the globe with special emphasis on Antisporiatic, Antifungal, Antibacterial, Antiviral, Cytotoxic, Anti-inflammatory, Anti-diabetic, Analgesic, Hepatoprotective, Anthelmintic, and Wound healing activities.

Cancer is still a major risk factor to public health globally, causing approximately 9.8 million deaths worldwide in 2018. Despite advances in conventional treatment modalities for cancer treatment, there are still few effective therapies available due to the lack of selectivity, adverse side effects, non-specific toxicities, and tumour recurrence. Therefore, there is an immediate need for essential alternative therapeutics, which can prove to be beneficial and safe against cancer. Various phytochemicals from natural sources have been found to exhibit beneficial medicinal properties against various human diseases. Zerumbone is one such compound isolated from Zingiber zerumbet Smith that possesses diverse pharmacological properties including those of antioxidant, antibacterial, antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, as well as anti-neoplastic. Zerumbone has shown its anti-cancer effects by causing significant suppression of proliferation, survival, angiogenesis, invasion, and metastasis through the molecular modulation of different pathways such as NF-κB, Akt, and IL-6/JAK2/STAT3 (interleukin-6/janus kinase-2/signal transducer and activator of transcription 3) and their downstream target proteins. The current review briefly summarizes the modes of action and therapeutic potential of zerumbone against various cancers.

The polysaccharides in many plants are attracting worldwide attention because of their biological activities and medical properties, such as anti-viral, anti-oxidative, antichronic inflammation, anti-hypertensive, immunomodulation, and neuron-protective effects, as well as anti-tumor activity. Denodrobium species, a genus of the family orchidaceae, have been used as herbal medicines for hundreds of years in China due to their pharmacological effects. These effects include nourishing the Yin, supplementing the stomach, increasing body fluids, and clearing heat. Recently, numerous researchers have investigated possible active compounds in Denodrobium species, such as lectins, phenanthrenes, alkaloids, trigonopol A, and polysaccharides. Unlike those of other plants, the biological effects of polysaccharides in Dendrobium are a novel research field. In this review, we focus on these novel findings to give readers an overall picture of the intriguing therapeutic potential of polysaccharides in Dendrobium, especially those of the four commonly-used Denodrobium species: D. huoshanense, D. offininale, D. nobile, and D. chrysotoxum.

Background: Oils and fats are the densest sources of food energy among food groups. Vegetable oils are constituted predominantly of triglycerides. Due to the importance of edible oils in nutrition, food industry and human health, great attention has been paid to them in recent years. Some minor bioactive constituents in oils include phospholipids, tocols, sterols, carotenoid, chlorophyll, phenols, phylokynon and terpenes. Objective: The aim of the present study was to examine beneficial effects of minor compounds in edible oils on human health. Results: Minor compounds of edible oils that we use daily can produce remarkable results in the prevention and treatment of various diseases like diabetes, inflammation, hypertension, cancer, allergy and central nervous system disorders due to their antimicrobial, anti-cancer, anti-viral, anti-oxidative, anti-inflammation, anti-mutagenic, hypolipidemic, and hypoglycemic properties, among others. Conclusion: The results of this study showed that the presence of beneficial minor compounds in oils could have significant impact on the prevention and treatment of various diseases. Therefore, the type of consumed oil can play an important role in human health.
