Boswellia serrata (Burseraceae) is the most ancient and respected herbs in Ayurveda. In Unani system of medicine, oleo-gum resin of Boswellia serrata named Kundur played a prime ingredient role in modern quality perfumes. The gum is used as a remedy for treatment of illness especially skin diseases and rheumatism in Indian system of medicine (Sidha, Ayurvedic and Unani) for last diverse centuries. Salai guggul is one of the accepted drugs for various complaints such as dyspepsia, dysentery, lung diseases, urinary disorder, haemorrhoids and corneal ulcer in Unani system of medicine for the last several decades.The present article is aimed to provide an overview on various pharmacological activities of Boswellia serrata. The resin fraction of salai guggal is rich in boswellic acids and its essential oils that are composed of a mixture of mono, di and sesquiterpenes while gum fraction chiefly contains pentose and hexose sugars. The oleo-gum resin is quite popular among the practitioners of traditional system and possesses wide range of useful biological properties such as antiasthmatic, anticancer, antifungal, anticomplementary, antihyperlipidemic, antiinflammatory, antiarthritic, antirheumatic, antidiarrheal, antimicrobial, antifungal and analgesic.An exhaustive review of literature was performed using various databases on science direct, scopus, pubmed, google scholar and free patents online.This review is a sincere attempt to discuss and present the current status of pharmacological profile of Boswellia serrata.

Medicinal properties of papaya (Carica papaya Linn.) fruit and other parts are wellknown in the traditional system of medicine. Papaya plant originated in Central America and now grown in tropical areas of worldwide, most particularly in Africa and Asia. Studies validate that, papaya has several pharmacological activities, such as antioxidant, antiulcer, antibacterial, woundhealing, anti-inflammatory and anti-sickling, just to name a few. The present review article provides the explicit and updated information on botanical aspects, ethnomedicinal uses, phytochemistry and pharmacological activities of C. papaya plant in order to explore their therapeutic potential. This review conducted a systematic search on C. papaya through electronic database search (Google Scholar, PubMed, SciFinder, Scopus, Science Direct, and Web of Science) and a library search for articles published in peer-reviewed journals, until January of 2018. Constituents of papaya plant belongs to different chemical classes that include alkaloids, flavonoids, terpenoids, saponins, steroids, tannin, vitamins, quinones, minerals and others. Experimental evidence confirmed that these classes of compounds cure the microbial infections, diabetes, inflammatory, cytotoxic and liver disorders. Conclusively, the present review aimed to summarize the information of ethnomedicinal uses, phytochemistry and pharmacological activities to prevent and treat the wide range of diseases and disorders. The future research draws the attention of the researcher for intensive investigations relating to phytochemicals, pharmacological activities and industrial applications.

The traditional system of medicinal plants have been found to possess significant anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, anti-fungal, anti-diabetic, analgesic properties etc. Plant-derived drugs are used to cure mental illness, skin diseases, tuberculosis, diabetes, jaundice, hypertension, and cancer. Wedelia Trilobata belongs to family Asteraceae. Leaf, stem, and flower of Wedelia trilobata show anti-microbial, anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory activity, analgesic activity. Phytochemical screening of the extract has been reported to show the presence of tannins, cardiac glycosides, flavonoids, terpenoids, phenols, saponins, and coumarins. Wedelia Trilobata is also used in reproductive problems, amenorrhea, chest cold, dry cough, and fever. The present review aims to the study was phytoconstituents, biological and pharmacological activities of Wedelia trilobata. This study suggested a possible use of Wedelia trilobata as a source of natural medicines as an anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, anti-microbial, hepatoprotective, antidiabetic agents. Cinnoline or Benzo-pyridazine has its place in the family of fairly well-known benzfuseddiazine heterocycles. Because of its natural occurrence and synthetic exploration, cinnoline compounds validated its thought-provoking bioactivity through a number of research publications and patents during last few decades. A creative consideration has been rewarded to the synthesis of cinnoline based heterocyclic compounds, mostly due to their wide range of diverse pharmacological activities. The present review covers the principle approaches to the synthesis of cinnoline nucleus and almost all biological properties of 115 cinnoline derivatives reported during the last 65 years from natural and synthetic origin with 140 references.

Plants have been used as one of the important source for treating various diseases of human beings since ancient times. Numbers of plants are mentioned in different traditional system of medicine, among them Spathodea campanulata P. Beauvais is one of the important medicinal plant. Different parts of Spathodea campanulata such as flowers, leaves, stem, bark and roots have been reported for possessing anti-inflammatory, analgesic, cytotoxic, anti-diabetic and anticonvulsant activity. Phytochemical screening shows the presence of various secondary metabolites like alkaloids, tannins, flavonoids, glycosides and sterols. Relevant information and literature on Spathodea campanulata from electronic databases such as Academic Journals, Google, Google Scholar, Science Direct, PubMed and Web of Science were collected and analyzed. Available literatures evidently show that Spathodea campanulata possess a wide range of pharmacological activities that could be explained by the presence of variety of phytochemicals. The aim of the present review to provide detailed information regarding geographical distribution, phytochemicals and pharmacological properties of this plant.

Mulinane- and azorellane-type diterpenoids have unique tricyclic fused five-, six-, and seven-membered systems and a wide range of biological properties, including antimicrobial, antiprotozoal, spermicidal, gastroprotective, and anti-inflammatory, among others. These secondary metabolites are exclusive constituents of medicinal plants belonging to the Azorella, Laretia, and Mulinum genera. In the last 30 years, more than 95 mulinanes and azorellanes have been reported, 49 of them being natural products, 4 synthetics, and the rest semisynthetic and biotransformed derivatives. This systematic review highlights the biosynthetic origin, the chemistry, and the pharmacological activities of this remarkably interesting group of diterpenoids.

Wheatgrass (Triticum aestivum Linn.) refers to the young grass of the common wheat plant which belongs to the family Poaceae. It is known as thepowerhouse of nutrients and vitamins. The juice of wheatgrass is known as “green blood” which contains an excessive amount of chlorophyll content(70% of the total chemical constituents), antioxidants, active enzymes, vitamins, and other vital nutrients which are used to enhance lungs and heartfunction. Wheatgrass juice is also taken as a supplementary diet to boost the immune system and provide strength to the human body. From reportedstudies, it is proved that molecules of human blood hemoglobin and wheatgrass chlorophyll contain the same structure and can act as a substitute forhemoglobin in hemoglobin deficiency conditions. It is a highly nutritive plant and is used to cure diseases such as cancer, diabetes, ulcer, rheumatoidarthritis, hyperlipidemia, thalassemia, anemia, kidney stone, asthma, digestive problems, and skin diseases. Pharmacologically, wheatgrass carriesproperties such as anti-diabetic, anti-allergic, antioxidant, anti-ulcer, anticancer, hepatoprotective, cardioprotective, anti-inflammatory, and antiarthriticproperties. In this review paper, attempts have been made to provide a brief overview of wheatgrass, its pharmacological activities, andayurvedic view.

Psoralea corylifolia (Leguminosae) commonly known as babchi or babachi has been used in different traditional system of various aliments since, ancient time. Psoralea corylifolia grow throughout Asia and India or many other countries. This article aims to provide a comprehensive review on the phytochemical and pharmacological aspect of Psoralea corylifolia. In traditional medicine, it has been used in treatment of various diseases such as leucoderma skin diseases, cardiovascular diseases, nephritis, osteoporosis, and cancer vitiligo, poisoning, for conception, caries, deafness, filarial. The stem, seeds, leaves, of this plant containe a variety of biologically active compound such as flavonoids, coumarins, phenols, benzofurans, benzopyrans, quinines, sesquiterpenoids, triterpenoids, steroids, and some other components. Those have varuous medicinal properties. The different part of the plant showed the antimicrobial, antipregnancy, estrogenic, antitumor, antioxidant, and many other pharmacological activities. The article focus on traditional as well as modern use and various activities of the plant.

Sandalwood (Santalum album L.) is one of the most famous and widely used plants in perfumery and cosmetics. Apart from perfumery and cosmetics uses, sandalwood also has a wide range of pharmacological activities and the plant can be considered as one of the important medicinal plants. Since last two decades, this plant has been studied extensively but still there is lot of scope to exploit full potential of uses of sandalwood for mankind. Various studies report that of effects sandalwood oil is responsible for various effects ranging from antibacterial to anticancer. It also shows prominent activity in various skin diseases. There are few toxicological studies on sandalwood. It is necessary to summaries all activities reported about this plant. This review consolidates different reported activities of sandalwood plant as well as its oil.

Background: Genus Berberis (family Berberidaceae), which contains about 650 species and 17 genera worldwide, has been used in folklore and various traditional medicine systems. Berberis Linn. is the most established group among genera with around 450-500 species across the world. This comprehensive review will not only help researchers for further evaluation but also provide substantial information for future exploitation of species to develop novel herbal formulations. Objective: The present review is focussed to summarize and collect the updated review of information of Genus Berberis species reported to date regarding their ethnomedicinal information, chemical constituents, traditional/folklore use, and reported pharmacological activities on more than 40 species of Berberis. Conclusion: A comprehensive survey of the literature reveals that various species of the genus possess various phytoconstituents mainly alkaloids, flavonoid based compounds isolated from different parts of a plant with a wide range of pharmacological activities. So far, many pharmacological activities like anti-cancer, anti-hyperlipidemic, hepatoprotective, immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory both in vitro & in vivo and clinical study of different extracts/isolated compounds of different species of Berberis have been reported, proving their importance as a medicinal plant and claiming their traditional use.

Venom-derived peptides display diverse biological and pharmacological activities, making them useful in drug discovery platforms and for a wide range of applications in medicine and pharmaceutical biotechnology. Due to their target specificities, venom peptides have the potential to be developed into biopharmaceuticals to treat various health conditions such as diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and chronic pain. Despite the high potential for drug development, several limitations preclude the direct use of peptides as therapeutics and hamper the process of converting venom peptides into pharmaceuticals. These limitations include, for instance, chemical instability, poor oral absorption, short halflife, and off-target cytotoxicity. One strategy to overcome these disadvantages relies on the formulation of bioactive peptides with nanocarriers. A range of biocompatible materials are now available that can serve as nanocarriers and can improve the bioavailability of therapeutic and venom-derived peptides for clinical and diagnostic application. Examples of isolated venom peptides and crude animal venoms that have been encapsulated and formulated with different types of nanomaterials with promising results are increasingly reported. Based on the current data, a wealth of information can be collected regarding the utilization of nanocarriers to encapsulate venom peptides and render them bioavailable for pharmaceutical use. Overall, nanomaterials arise as essential components in the preparation of biopharmaceuticals that are based on biological and pharmacological active venom-derived peptides.
