The article describes the symbolic meaning of the image of some bird species existing in the Kalmyk traditional perception. As a rule, different species of birds in the culture of a nation have their own symbolic meaning that can have both positive and negative connotation. The article analyzes the role of messengers referred to different species of birds. The article points out the link of the bird symbolism with totemism and in particular with the selection of this or other species of birds for totems of different ethnic groups. There was a comparative analysis of the bird symbolism among different nations. The study is of great importance as there is a need for revealing the main characteristics of bird image symbols which are as ancient as any other symbols existing in the life of people. The article analyzes the ornithonyms of the Kalmyk language from the ethno-linguistic point of view. Ornithonyms are widely represented in the folklore of Kalmyks and other Mongolian nations: in the fairy tales, proverbs, sayings and other folklore genres.

The article looks at book production and circulation from the point of view of translators, who, as purchasers and readers of foreign-language books, are an important mediating force in the selection of literature for translation. Taking the German publisher Tauchnitz's series ‘Collection of British Authors’ and its circulation in Finland in the nineteenth and early twentieth century as a case in point, the article argues that the increased availability of English-language books facilitated the acquiring and honing of translators' language skills and gradually diminished the need for indirect translating. Book history and translation studies meet here in an examination of the role of the Collection in Finnish translators' work.

Despite the ambiguous attitude of legal researchers to the place and role of legal customs in modern legal systems, this topic is of great interest in domestic science. The transitive nature of Russian society is a recognized reason. The goal was set — to conduct a comparative analysis of approaches to this phenomenon in three social sciences and humanities — philosophy, cultural studies and legal anthropology. Based on the analysis of a number of works of the last 5 years, it was concluded that the greatest cognitive potential is contained in legal anthropology — a relatively young science that studies the legal existence of mankind (and its constituent ethnic groups, peoples, nations) at all stages of the development of this existence, from archaic to modern. AbstractThe concept ofmanipulative abductionis devoted to capture the role of action in many interesting cognitive situations: action provides otherwise unavailable information that enables the agent to solve problems by starting and performing a suitable abductive process of generation or selection of hypotheses. We observe that many external things, usually inert from an epistemological point of view, can be transformed intoepistemic mediators. I will present some details derived from the history of the discovery of the non-Euclidean geometries that illustrate the relationships between strategies for anomaly resolution and visual thinking. Geometrical diagrams are external representations that play both amirrorrole (to externalize rough mental models) and anunveilingrole (as gateways to imaginary entities). I describe them as epistemic mediators able to perform various explanatory, non-explanatory, and instrumental abductive tasks (discovery of new properties or new propositions/hypotheses, provision of suitable sequences of models as able to convincingly verifying theorems, etc.). I am also convinced that they can be exploited and studied in everyday non-mathematical applications also to the aim of promoting new trends in artificial intelligence modeling of various aspects of hypothetical reasoning: finding routes, road signs, buildings maps, for example, in connection with various zooming effects of spatial reasoning. I also think that the cognitive activities of optical, mirror, and unveiling diagrams can be studied in other areas of manipulative and model-based reasoning, such as the ones involving creative, analogical, and spatial inferences, both in science and everyday situations so that this can extend the epistemological, computational, and the psychological theory.

Fairy-tale texts describe the linguistic nature of the ancient genre, which reflects the worldview, ethical traditions and lifestyle, customs and psychology of the whole nation. Tales with ornithological features are given linguistic characteristics, and their cognitive value is considered in the linguistic aspect. The article discusses the role of birds from ancient times in the life of the Kazakh people and their interaction with nature. AbstractThe importance of local plans for developers and negative consequences of issuing a large number of decisions on building conditions are usually discussed in literature, with the role of the study of conditions and directions of the spatial development of the commune somewhat diminished in this respect. The question therefore arises whether the study itself is important for the growth of developers’ activity and, if so, whether its provisions are adhered to.Therefore, the purpose of this article is to assess the impact of the study of conditions and directions of spatial development of the commune on developers’ activity based on the example of Łódź. The author formulates a hypothesis that, from the point of view of developers’ activity, it is a document of little importance, because its decisions are not abided by entities issuing BC decisions. To achieve the assumed goal, the following research methods were used: desk research analyzing the studies of conditions and directions of the spatial development of Łódź from 2010 and 2018, as well as gathering information on development investments from various online sources, and a comparative analysis of the location of development investments in the context of both mentioned documents.

This article deals with, from a contrasting point of view, the linguistic means that amplify the applicability of the lexical predicate in argumentation processes. The theoretical basis consists of the works of Anscombre and Ducrot, which have treated the specific role of linguistic modifiers in argumentation processes since the 1970s, as well as a comprehensive study by Atayan (2006). Special attention is devoted to the modificateurs surréalisants (M.S.) defined by Negroni (1995). In everyday communicative situations, these modifiers obviously behave differently from modificateurs réalisants (M.R.) and modificateurs déréalisants (M.D.) – the two groups described by Ducrot. First, the composition as a possibility to realise M.S. in German is analysed in connection with the analysis of the Czech prefix pře- in the role of M.S. and further the suffixes -ánsk(ý), -anánsk(ý), -it(ý), -ostn(ý) in the role of M.S., and their equivalents in German are discussed. Lastly, diminuation as a potential means to express M.S. in both languages is presented in more detail. In the comparative analysis of the selected linguistic realisations of this specific group of argumentative modifiers, the samples proposed by Negroni are critically discussed on the one hand, and on the other, the potential of argumentation-oriented analyses for translation science is presented.

The article is devoted to the identification of all adjectives and the study of similarities and differences in both variants of I. Shaw’s (Show’s) work “Return to Kansas City” in English and Russian. In the research process the following methods were used: 1) the selection of adjectives from the texts; 2) the classification; 3) the comparative analysis. A table was built. An attempt to analyze and compare the obtained data was fulfilled from a linguistic point of view.

Ethnicity, nationality, and ethnic identity remain to be unresolved issues that need to be addressed. It is thus important to compare different approaches to understand the nature of ethnic phenomena and to identify appropriate techniques to understand the essence of «nation-building» concept. First, the article discusses the concepts of nation, ethnicity, changes in ethnic identity where the concepts of ethnos and nation are further explained. Second, the nature, dynamics and factors of the processes of ethnic identity are analyzed. Third, the author seeks answers to questions of why some ethnic identities change, while others remain unchanged. Fourth, ethnicity in conflict, the role of «belonging to a certain ethnic group» is considered. Finally, past and present debates of the primordialist and constructivist approaches to nation-building are described. The main methodology of the article is a comparative analysis of the theoretical literature of foreign and domestic research through the lenses of primordialism and constructivism. The paper argues that there is no reason for all ethnic groups to reach the level of a nation, that constructive theory has advantages at the highest level of integration between nations and ethnic groups in the 21st century, and that ethnic identity is adaptable and changeable over time. The results of this work contribute to further studies and scientific works related to the nation-building in Kazakhstan.
