Basketball in Bangkalan Regency is still constrained in its development, especially at an early age level. At the early age level elementary schools become one of the agencies expected to play a high role in their development through both intracuricular and extracurricular activities in accordance with applicable curriculum regulations. In fact, none of the primary schools in Bangkalan Regency have a standard or minimum basketball court that suits the needs of young children in recognizing basketball games as stated in the basic competencies of big ball games. Conventional strategies used by teachers and sports extracurricular coaches in primary schools have resulted in monotonous and boring training models or basketball learning as suggested by the partners, namely PERBASI Bangkalan Regency. The purposes of this study were to describe the efforts of schools in instilling Spiritual Intelligence (SI) into students and to determine the level of students’ SI in Islamic Primary Schools (IPS). This study used a descriptive qualitative-quantitative method resting upon a phenomenological approach with data collection techniques using interviews and observations to teachers and students, as well as the SI statement questionnaire. The research was carried out at Takhasus Al-Qur’an Elementary School (SDTQ), Harapan Umat Integrated Islamic School (SDITHU), and Al-Ambary Integrated Islamic Elementary School (SDITA) located in Brebes Regency, Indonesia. The data were analyzed at 5 intervals according to Saifuddin Azwar in a quantitative form. The results showed that the processes of instilling SI in SDI were carried out by establishing a vision and mission with Islamic tagline, the implementation in curricular and extracurricular activities, and exemplaryness by the teachers. The average levels of SI in the three schools for the three categories of honesty, respect for parents and teachers, and respect for others lied in decending orders from SDTQ Al-Ikhlas, SDIT Harapan, to SDIT Al-Ambari. In addition, the study revealed the results that the SI predicate was “Very Good” for female students and “Good” for male students.

Undeniably, the study focusing on akhlaq education is important to conduct, and one of the moral educations is gratitude. The purpose of this present study is to find out the meaning of gratitude based on the Qur'anic digital thematic study and its implications on akhlaq education in elementary school. This study employed a qualitative approach and digital Qur`anic thematic methods. Based on the results of the study, the terms gratitude were revealed in 43 verses of the Quran (Arabic) and 68 verses of the Quran (Indonesian Translation). The meaning of gratitude based on the Qur`anic digital thematic study of the Quran is considered as the value of the core character. Gratitude is commanded for humans who have been given the favor of faith and Islam, have been following the Messenger of Allah Salla Allah ‘Alaihi Wa Sallam, have been granted good sustenance, have been obliged to carry out various types of worship, and they will be granted forgiveness of their sins if they repent. However, most people in fact denied the various favors granted to them. In the bottom line, as an implication, it is obvious that gratitude is highly important to be learned, understood, trained and put into practice from the early age. Inevitably, it can be realized through the existence of formal education institutions, especially primary school level.

Character education has a very important role in shaping the superior character of Japanese society. Compared to Indonesia, Japan has long designed and implemented character education for all levels of education. Since 1970 Japan has begun to develop a character-based curriculum that has begun to be applied at the kindergarten and elementary school level. Japan recognizes the importance of character education starting at the age of children because educating characters in children will be easier to do than educating teenage or adult characters. Implementation of character education in early childhood in Japan prioritizes character education that can bring out superior characters such as courage, independence, discipline, responsibility, cooperation, and socializing. To bring out these characters, the application of early childhood character education in Japan places great importance on moral and personality education. Through moral education and personality, the characters are brave, independent, disciplined, responsible, cooperating, and socializing. Moral and personality education is not taught through special subjects but is applied in everyday life. And this is characteristic of the application of early childhood character education in Japan

The Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 43 Year 2007 concerning Libraries states that schools are required to have school libraries based on the National Standards of Library (SNP). This condition forces every school to develop a library, even though the conditions are still far from the standard set. To realize the existence of library, each school uses various resources in its school to establish a school library. This study aims to explore the efforts of primary schools in Singaraja City to fulfill their obligations in providing library space. This study uses a qualitative approach based on critical social theory commonly used in the Cultural Studies approach. The data collection was carried out by in-depth interviews, involved observation and document study. Data analysis in this study follows Peter Berger's model with the following steps: conceptualization, conceptualization results, verification, and objectivation. The results show that the obligation to have a school library at the primary school level is not easy due to various obstacles. This gave rise to the ideology of permissivism or in Balinese it is called dadi dadi dogen. This ideology allows schools to use various types of spaces to become libraries, for example classrooms, teacher rooms, warehouses, UKS, and so on. Keywords: elementary school libraries, dadi dadi dogen, permissivism, ideology

This aim of this research is to provide an insight on English as foreign language learning at elementary school level. Since the English is learned as foreign language in Indonesia, the shifting of English in Indonesia curriculum is one of the interested research focus. It is explicitly declared in Curriculum 2013 that English is taught as an extracurricular subject in Indonesia elementary school. The government does not obligate the elementary students to learn English. The elementary schools have an opportunity to decide English to be included as a subject in the curriculum. The shifting of the government’s consideration in deciding the starting focus of English learning at junior high school level is the maturity level of learners in learning a foreign language. Dealing with the stated focus, a critical overview on the foreign language learning is conducted. Several research reported that learning a foreign language is better to be started at the early age because of the early age students are easier to imitate the new language. The way of thinking in imitating stages is assumed as the best time to start learning a foreign language. In another point, several research reported that maturity level of learners is the essential point to be considered because learning a foreign language need is not only imitating the language but also understanding the culture, combining linguistics aspects and so on. Despite the fact on the different views of scholars, both of the parties agree on the focus of learning a language is not a matter of age. The contributions of several factors are also part of the supported system in learning foreign language. In term of English foreign language learning, different age-level have to be given different learning input. An early age students should be given speaking and listening topics due to the students do not involve the critical thinking process. Meanwhile, the mature students are better to be provided reading and writing topic due to the depth thinking phase is in theirs.
