Nowadays, young people have shown different language phenomena in their daily conversations. It sems that they are not proud to use their mother tongues anymore. This article reports the results of a research done to the English students of FBSS UNP Padang to see the profile of their language use (their bilingualism profile) at the campus. The data show that Bahasa Indonesia is the first choice to use and the mother tongues, English and other languages follow.

This study aims to determine university student’s commitment in completing studies in the department Christian education management at IAKN Tarutung. Participants involved were studying at the third semester. Data were collected through a qualitative approach including from interview, documents, and open questionnaires. The results showed; First, students have commitment completing their studies although they were disappointed when they learned that their graduation was not in accordance with their first choice, but due to parents' advice and motivation, the socialization process and learning from lecturers, the motivation of classmates, student involvement in various campus activities, students increasingly love their study programs. Second, there is no significant difference between students who purely choose Christian education management study programs and students who graduate based on second choice and transition from other study programs. The results of this study indicate that intellectual desires and abilities are not the main keys in completing studies but because of hard work, and strong commitment (strong determination).BAHASA INDONESIA ABSTRACT: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui komitmen mahasiswa Prodi Manajemen Pendidikan Kristen dalam menyelesaikan studi di IAKN Tarutung. Subjek penelitian adalah mahasiswa semester tiga Prodi Manajemen Pendidikan Kristen. Data penelitian diperoleh melalui pendekatan kualitatif  dengan metode wawancara, dokumen dan angket terbuka. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan; pertama, mahasiswa berkomitmen untuk menyelesaikan studinya di IAKN Tarutung walaupun pada awalnya merasa  kecewa ketika mengetahui kelulusannya tidak sesuai dengan pilihan pertamanya,  namun  karena faktor nasehat  dan motivasi orangtua,  proses sosilaisasi dan pembelajaran dari dosen, motivasi teman kuliah, keterlibatan mahasiswa dalam berbagai kegiatan kampus, mahasiswa semakin mencintai prodinya, Kedua, tidak ada perbedaan yang signifikan antara mahasiswa yang murni memilih prodi manajemen pendidikan kristen dengan mahasiswa yang lulus berdasarkan pilihan kedua dan peralihan dari prodi lain. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa keinginan dan kemampuan intelektual tidak menjadi kunci utama dalam menyelesaikan studi tetapi oleh karena kerja keras, dan komitmen  yang kuat (tekat yang kuat).Keywords: Commitment, Students, Completing Studies

As a multilingual country, the Indonesian government has set the positions of local language, national language, and foreign language in education through Law of National Education System No.20 of 2003, Chapter VII, Article 33. Fifteen years passed and this paper seeks to find the results of the law in higher education students by investigating the patterns of language use of multilingual students in English Literature Study Program of FBS UNY. This is a descriptive study with parallel mixed method design. The data in this study were responses upon questions in the questionnaires distributed to respondents where the results were then analyzed quantitatively by using SPSS (17) and the results of interviews were analyzed qualitatively. The source of data in this study were 162 respondents who were students of English Literature study program, Faculty of Languages and Arts, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta year 2015-2017. The results show that at home, more than 60% of students use Javanese with intimacy and habit as motivating factors. As English Literature students, they are more exposed to media in Bahasa Indonesia. On the campus, English is only used for academic purposes, Bahasa Indonesia for communicating with lecturers while Javanese is for a casual talk with classmates. Javanese is close to traditional commerce while for the modern one, they prefer to use Bahasa Indonesia. For cognitive and mental activities, Bahasa Indonesia is the most dominant, and Javanese is used more than English. These results imply that rather than conforming to the law made by the government, contexts play a more important role in forming people’s language choices.Keywords: multilingualism, local language, national language, foreign language, English Literature UNY POLA PENGGUNAAN BAHASA MAHASISWA MULTILINGUAL JURUSAN BAHASA INGGRISSebagai negara multibahasa, pemerintah Indonesia telah menetapkan posisi bahasa daerah, bahasa nasional, dan bahasa asing dalam pendidikan melalui Undang-Undang Sistem Pendidikan Nasional No.20 tahun 2003, Bab VII, Pasal 33. Lima belas tahun telah berlalu dan tulisan ini berupaya untuk menemukan penerapan hasil hukum tersebut pada mahasiswa dengan menyelidiki pola penggunaan bahasa mahasiswa multibahasa di Program Studi Sastra Inggris FBS UNY. Ini adalah penelitian deskriptif dengan metode campuran paralel. Data dalam penelitian ini adalah tanggapan mahasiswa terhadap pertanyaan dalam kuesioner yang hasilnya kemudian dianalisis secara kuantitatif dengan menggunakan SPSS (17) serta hasil wawancara yang dianalisis secara kualitatif. Sumber data dalam penelitian ini adalah 162 responden yang merupakan mahasiswa program studi Sastra Inggris, Fakultas Bahasa dan Seni, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta angkatan tahun 2015-2017. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa di rumah, lebih dari 60% mahasiswa menggunakan bahasa Jawa dengan keakraban dan kebiasaan sebagai faktor pendorongnya. Sebagai mahasiswa Sastra Inggris, mereka lebih terpapar media dalam Bahasa Indonesia. Di kampus, bahasa Inggris hanya digunakan untuk tujuan akademik, Bahasa Indonesia untuk berkomunikasi dengan dosen, dan bahasa Jawa untuk percakapan santai dengan teman. Bahasa Jawa sangat dekat dengan perdagangan tradisional, sedangkan untuk perdagangan modern, mereka lebih memilih untuk menggunakan Bahasa Indonesia. Untuk kegiatan kognitif dan mental, Bahasa Indonesia adalah yang paling dominan, dan bahasa Jawa digunakan lebih dari bahasa Inggris. Hasil ini menyiratkan bahwa alih-alih menyesuaikan ketentuan yang telah dibuat oleh pemerintah, konteks memainkan peranan yang lebih penting dalam membentuk pilihan bahasa penggunanya.Kata kunci: multilingualisme, bahasa daerah, bahasa nasional, bahasa asing, Sastra Inggris UNY

The aim is to find out the writing on the banner to get pictures or photos on the banner to see in this case which vocabulary and sentences are wrong on the banner and to get information that can be processed as material for making scientific articles, which consists of the basic theory of the language used is far from the norm. This case is caused by the lack of public understanding of language and writing in the use of words according to the KBBI which uses vocabulary and is structured in sentences. In producing data sources obtained from the surrounding environment to be able to take data such as interviews with people who are responsive around the environment to obtain accurate data as material for scientific works. The perfection and correctness of linguistic basics in language use errors were found around the banner, from the results of research in the use of descriptive methods in language use errors found in research as objects and research subjects on banners in data recording is observed in case studies used in writing the results of the study indicate that the writing on the banner uses informal language in the form of various written languages ​​depending on the inappropriate writing style. According to the rules. From the results of the study, it was found that there was a lot of error information on language users on banners in grouping sentences and vocabulary based on factual information in processing data as an object of analysis in solving Indonesian.

This study assessed the effectiveness of lesson exemplars in the teaching of pop-up writing to AB English students of Cebu Technological University- Main Campus during the Academic Year 2016-2017. This study utilized the quasi- experimental research design: the lesson exemplar is the independent variable while the students’ level of creativity in writing is the dependent variable. The study revealed that the entry level pop-up writing performance of the respondents was neutral in all criteria. This performance is numerically highest for story structure and lowest for creativity. Moreover, the LE1 pop-up writing performance of the respondents is good for story structure and topic development but remained neutral for language use and creativity, the LE2 popup writing performance of the respondents is good for story structure but remained neutral for language use, topic development, and creativity, and the LE3 pop-up writing performance of the respondents is good for all four (4) criteria. The increase in LE1 pop-up writing performance of the respondents is significant for story structure and topic development but the change is negligible for language use and creativity, the increase in LE2 pop-up writing performance of the respondents is significant for story structure; yet the changes are negligible for language use, topic development, and creativity, and there were no significant differences in the LE3 pop-up writing performance. Therefore, teachers may design more learning activities that would reinforce the aspects of pop-up writing.

AbstractThe study of language attitudes is relevant to the study of language use in society, language policy and planning, and language acquisition and learning. The purpose of this paper is to increase our knowledge of attitudes of native speakers about Portuguese varieties and the role of extralinguistic factors conditioning them. Seventy-nine adult Brazilian Portuguese native speakers were surveyed on their perception of outstanding language differences within various Portuguese-speaking areas, their preferences for specific regional varieties of their language, and their opinion on which variety of Portuguese would be the best choice to teach schoolchildren in Brazil, foreigners visiting Brazil, and Uruguayans and Argentineans in their home countries - in the context of regional integration under Mercosul. Results show the highest percentages of preference favoring the neutral/general variety of Portuguese as the first choice for teaching situations, followed by the Brazilian variety. This contrasts with the information collected on the subjective preferences of the same participants, who reported having a preference for a specific national or regional variety of Portuguese in 78.5% of their answers.

<p>Halal cause is an essential element in Indonesian legal agreement. Its definition in the Article 1320 of Civil Code Procedure is unclearly elaborated leading to multi interpretations. There is even Judge’s interpretation in the language use that cause its invalidity only because Indonesian language is considered as a halal cause. This leads to uncertainty of all parties involved in a agreement. This research discusses the accuracy of ratio legis of Supreme Court judges in decree Number 1572 K.Pdt.2015 that decides the authentic deeds of loan agreement and fiduciary guarantee for an object as void at law. The researcher employs normative juridical method. The approaches employed are legislation, conceptual, and case. The research reveals, there is irrelevant interpretation of halal cause by Supreme Court judges in decree 1572/K/Pdt/2015 when related to the Article 1320 of Civil Code Procedure and Rasio legis of the judges; the decision has overlooked the provision of foreign language use in the authentic deeds as regulated in notary office law. It is because the legal framework used infringes the principle of lex spesialis derogat legi generalli. Furthermore, the legal consequence toward the authentic deeds regarding the use of foreign language agreed by all agreement parties written in decree Number 1572 K.Pdt.2015 should not be void at law because it does not guarantee the legal certainty of all deed makers.</p><p><br />Kausa halal merupakan unsur krusial dalam Hukum perjanjian Indonesia. Maknanya dalam pasal 1320 KUHPerdata kurang terjabar jelas sehingga ada multi tafsir. Bahkan ada penafsiran Hakim terhadap bahasa ini yang berakibat pembatalan akta hanya karena menganggap Bahasa Indonesia masuk dalam kausa halal. Hal ini membuat ketidakpastian pihak pembuat perjanjian. Penelitian ini membahas ketepatan rasio legis hakim Mahkamah Agung dalam putusan No. 1572 K.Pdt.2015 yang memutuskan batal demi hukum akta otentik perjanjian pinjam-meminjam dan perjanjian Jaminan Fidusia Atas Benda. Peneliti menggunakan metode yuridis normatif. Pendekatan yang digunakan adalah perundang-undangan, konseptual, dan kasus. Hasil penelitian, hakim Mahkamah Agung kurang tepat dalam memaknai kausa halal No. 1572/K/Pdt/2015 yang terkait dengan pasal 1320 KUHperdata dan rasio legis hakim; keputusannya mengesampingkan ketentuan penggunaan bahasa asing dalam akta otentik yang telah diatur Undang-Undang Jabatan Notaris. hal ini karena dasar-dasar hukum yang digunakan hakim tidak tepat yaitu menyalahi asas lex spesialis derogat legi generalli. Serta, akibat hukum terhadap akta otentik perjanjiannya yang telah disepakati para pihak dengan menggunakan bahasa asing dalam putusan No. 1572 K.Pdt.2015 seharusnya tidak menjadi batal demi hukum karena putusan tersebut tidak menjamin kepastian hukum para pihak pembuat akta.</p>

This study is aimed at finding out the factors influencing the decreasing use of Base Sasak Alus (honorific Sasak language) among the youths in Sasak, Lombok. Based on the quantitative and qualitative data gained through survey, interview and participant observation over several villages near and out of the three regency-city cetnters of Lombok, it was found out that the average youth mastery of the Sasak honorific vocabularies is far from adequate, and for the other their competence in using and constructing Sasak speech level is also ‘poor’, their score being respectively 56,58 and 51,55.  There are some factors that are addressed to have triggered the decreasing use of the high language variety.  First and for most important, the inadequate transfer of Base Alus from parents and elder family members to children in the home domain causes the lack of exposure of the high language variety and lead to the minimum opportunity for teenagers to listen and practice the honorific vocabularies in their home and outside. Second, out of their home in their neighbouring environment and societies they rarely heard people speaking in such respectful form of language, except in very formal situation such as feast, religious gathering, village offices. Third, the encroachment of Bahasa Indonesia in almost every domain of language use also influence the teenagers to tend to use Bahasa Indonesia when talking to ‘stranggers’ who come to their town or village eventhough they are Sasaks.  Next is the change of value in marriage system for ‘noblemen’ family results in the loose system of the use of Base Alus. However, aristocrat families who consistently practice the use of the speech level among their family members, could contribute to the maintainance of the refined language much better, but their number is limited to the very small percentage of the ‘aristocrate’ family members themselves.

Latar belakang penelitian berkaitan dengan pemahaman peserta didik tunarungu dalam literasi. Penelitian ini  merupakan studi kasus dengan pendekatan kuantitatif-kualitatif yang dilakukan kepada tujuh orang peserta didik tunarungu kelas VIII. “Bagaimana Pemahaman Peserta Didik Tunarungu terhadap Pembelajaran Literasi”, merupakan pertanyaan penelitian yang dijawab melalui tiga teknik pengumpulan data yakni: observasi, interviu, dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menggambarkan bahwa bahasa Inggris diajarakan guru kepada ketujuh peserta didik tunarungunya melalui beberapa pendekatan. Membaca diajarkan melalui pemahaman kosakata dan artinya, kemudian praktek dialog berpasangan. Sedangkan menulis diajarkan guru melalui pemberian contoh karangan dalam bahasa Indonesia, dan tugas individu yang berkaitan dnega keluarga.Pemahaman membaca peserta didik tunarungu kelas VIII ini tergolong baik dikarenakan mereka mampu memahami teks dan menjawab pertanyaan dengan baik. Bahkan hasil keterampilan menulis mereka sangat baik. Nilai membaca mereka penulis kelompokkan ke dalam “baik”, dan ‘kurang’, dikarenakan hanya ada dua jenis rentang kelompok nilai. 5 orang mendapatkan nilai membaca di atas 80, dan 2 orang mendapatkan nilai di bawah 65, yakni 54-60. Nilai menulis mereka dikelompokkan ke dalam ‘sangat baik’ (2 orang), ‘cukup’ (3 orang), dan ‘kurang’ (2 orang). Kriteria ‘sangat baik’ adalah mereka yang mendapatkan nilai terbesar dalam language use, dan content organization. Kesimpulan penelitian ini adalah sejauh ini pemahaman literasi ketujuh peserta didik tunarungu secara umum baik.
