Abstract: Bajirao Mastani is a colossal film with an Indian background that explains the issue. This film is important and interesting to investigate because this film legalize the marriage of different religions, this certainly makes the researchers worried later Muslims will be affected after watching the movie because the message is contrary to the teachings of Islam. Based on the above context, the purpose of this study is to answer the question of how the meaning of religious denominational marriage in a denotative, connotative and mythic way in Bajirao Mastani film by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The theory used is the semiotics of Roland Barthes which is known by the theory of Two-Stage Signification (Two Order of Signification). This research uses qualitative descriptive method, with Barthes semiotic approach. The meaning of different religious marriages in the film Bajirao Mastani among them is a different religious marriage between Islam and Hinduism is prohibited (haram) by the scholars this is contained in the Fatwa Majelis Ulama Indonesia (MUI). Thus, the essence of marriage that aims to create happiness in married life will turn into a complicated marriage and many contradictions.

This research focuses on Rob Hall�s characterizations and moral values found in �Everest: Never Let Go� Film. The aims of this research are to find out Rob Hall�s characterizations portrayed in the Film Everest: Never Let Go and the moral values of the Film. The researcher used the theory about psychological analysis (based on Sigmund Freud in Schultz, 2005) to find out Rob characters through his words or sentences in script of Everest; Never Let Go Film and semiotics theory (based on Roland Barthes, 1968, 1990, 1991) to find out the characteristics of Rob Hall through pictures or signs which show his character in Film �Everest: Never Let Go� with print screen of each pictures or signs, and theory of moral value based on George and Uyanga (2014). Qualitative descriptive method was used by the researcher to find out the characteristic of Rob Hall in Everest: Never Let Go Film and the moral values of Rob Hall characterized in the Film. As result, the researcher found 6 characterizations of Rob Hall in Everest: Never Let Go Film, those are Honest, Sociable, Responsible, Assertive, Attentive, and Pessimistic. Ariana Grande was determined to be a light on her song lyrics and no one has needed that light more than Ariana Grande herself. Her song Lyrics were loaded with deep meanings. Ariana Grande sung about relationships, love, and dating, and through it all, there were moments of meaning spread throughout. The lyric writer wanted to suggest a certain mood or emotion. This study focused on God is a woman song Lyrics. The writer took song lyrics as primary data and used qualitative descriptive method that explained descriptively how the meaning used in Ariana Grande’s God is a woman song lyrics. The theory used in the study is semiotics, in particular, is the theory used by Roland Barthes. Roland Barthes developed his theory into two levels, namely Denotation as the first level in the sign, connotation as the second level in the sign which is accompanied by a myth (marking a society). The result of this study based on Roland Barthes Semiotic’s theory in a way of denotative it is about sex and how she claims the chemistry will be so incredible that the guy is going to think she is God and in a way of connotative Ariana Grande campaigned for a struggle for gender equality and she showed off women's energy and independence. While the myth is God is a woman which this sentence represents about gender differences in life. The answer to dismantling patriarchy is not raising a matriarchy in its place. But building our understanding of, as Ariana Grande puts it, "God as a woman," will help counterbalance almost every human's internalized beliefs that our creator is a man, a father, a guy in the sky. God is our mother, our father, our parents. Come to think of it, if God can be referred to with the masculine pronoun “he”, why is not okay for us to also used the female pronoun “she” when referring to God.

Theres many ways can be done to appreciate the voices of messages and criticisms through creative ways, one of them through comics. One of the Indonesian comic artists who used comics as a medium of social criticism was Haryadhi through his "Komik Strip Untuk Umum (KOSTUM)” creation. KOSTUM Comics record the events that are happening and pour them into comic strips spread through social media. This research is a qualitative descriptive type using Roland Barthes' semiotics theory with two-stage significance (two orders of signification). From the results of the study, researchers found the implicit meaning that is to criticize and satirize the behavior of Indonesian people in a subtle way. Criticism expressed to comics is directed directly at the actors but is delicately wrapped with humorous portrayals through their characters. From the KOSTUM comics examined can be concluded that the social criticism described in the comic is an expression of the condition of the community related to the values that are used as a guideline for living in community groups.Keywords: Comics, Social Criticism, Semiotics, Roland Barthes

Abstrak Mitos Oheo adalah mitos yang hidup dalam masyarakat Tolaki, Sulawesi Tenggara. Mitos ini diyakini memuat peristiwa peminangan yang pertama kali dilakukan dalam peradaban suku Tolaki. Dalam penelitian ini dilakukan penelusuran representasi tradisi onggoso, sebuah tradisi membayar sejumlah uang belanja sebagai syarat pernikahan, dalam mitos Oheo. Permasalahan penelitian adalah bagaimana tradisi onggoso yang dikenal oleh Suku Tolaki terepresentasi dalam mitos Oheo. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menarik relasi antara kode- kode yang terdapat di dalam mitos Oheo dengan tradisi onggoso yang dikenal dalam adat perkawinan Suku Tolaki. Penelitian dilakukan dengan metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan pendekatan semiotik. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa tradisi onggoso mengambil contoh dari pengajuan syarat dari Anawaingguluri kepada Oheo untuk menerima pinangan Oheo. Dalam mitos Oheo, tradisi onggoso terepresentasi dalam dua fokus, yaitu penentuan kesepakatan dan teknis pembayaran. Segmen awal mitos Oheo berelasi dengan penentuan kesepakan mengenai jenis dan jumlah onggoso yang harus dibayarkan oleh pihak laki-laki kepada pihak perempuan. Syarat yang diajukan oleh Anawaingguluri harus disetujui oleh Oheo agar pernikahan di antara keduanya dapat dilaksanakan. Segmen tengah dan akhir yang memuat upaya Oheo berkumpul kembali dengan Anawaingguluri berelasi dengan mo mbolika odandi atau memperbaharui janji. Melalui mo mbolika odandi inilah terlihat upaya pihak laki-laki dalam menepati janjinya sebagai sebuah tanggung jawab. Kata kunci: tradisi onggoso, suku Tolaki, mitos Oheo Abstract The Oheo myth is a myth that lives in the Tolaki society, Southeast Sulawesi. This myth is believed to contain the rst marriage proposal carried out in Tolakinese civilization. This study traced the representation of onggoso tradition, a tradition of paying an amount of spending money as a condition for marriage, in the Oheo Myth. The issue of research is how is the traditional tradition known by the Tolaki tribe represented in the Myth of Oheo? This study aims to attract relations between the myth of Oheo and the tradition of onggoso known in the marriage customs of the Tolaki tribe. The study was conducted with a qualitative descriptive method with a semiotic approach. Based on the results of the analysis it can be concluded that the Onggoso tradition took the example of submitting conditions from Anawaingguluri to Oheo to accept Oheo’s proposal. In the Oheo myth, the onggoso  tradition is represented in two focuses, namely the determination of agreement and technical payment. The initial segment of the Oheo myth relates to the determination of agreement on the type and number of onggosos the male side must pay to the woman. The terms proposed by Anawaingguluri must be approved by Oheo so that the marriage between the two can be carried out. While the middle and nal segments that contain Oheo’s efforts are reunited with Anawaingguluri in connection with the music magazine or renewing an appointment. It is through this mo mbolika odandi that the efforts of the men in keeping their promises are seen as a responsibility.Keywords: onggoso tradition, Tolakinese tribe, Oheo myth

Advertisements, which can be found in daily life, do not just function as the source of the product’s information, but can also create a new connotation about social reality. This research is intended to reveal the form of the connotation about present beauty of Indonesian women that are trying to be conveyed by the advertisers through present advertisements in Kartini magazines.  This research is also revealing elements that are used by the advertisers to attract readers’ attention. To see what are the new connotation that are formed in the present advertisements, they will be compared with advertisements in the older generation. This research is using qualitative descriptive method and the data is coming from the wordings that are printed in those advertisements. The data will be described and analyzed with Discourse of Advertising Theory by Guy Cook and Anchoring Connotation Theory by Roland Barthes, and then the result will be conclude. Through Guy’s theory, this research will reveal all the elements that are used by the producers to build the beauty concept. Through Barthes’ theory, this research will show how the advertisers create new connotation. The result of analysis shows that present beauty concept about ideal body is a beautiful body that are radiated from the outer side of the women’s body and good looking. Beautiful face is a face that looks as young as twenty years old girls. Moreover, the result also shows that producers use current social representative where consumers these days like new, instant products that give maximum result. The result also shows consumers’ doubt over unknown products and women’s fear on fat body and aging.

Film is one of the most influential and massive mass communication media. The film "Kucumbu Tubuh Indahku" is one of the films that has this influence. This film tells the story of the life journey of a professional dancer and choreographer in Indonesia, Rianto. In this film, Rianto is told as Juno, an orphaned boy who has a sad and violent life journey, so as to melt the feminine and masculine characters that exist in his body. This research is a qualitative descriptive study with a semiotic approach, one of which is Roland Barthes' semiotics. The purpose of this research is to find out and show how and what are the signs, meanings of the results of the representation of femininity in the character Juno in the film "Kucumbu Tubuh Indahku". There are several theories that the author uses in this research, namely, the theory of film as mass communication, mass media, representation, Roland Barthes' semiotics, and Simone de Beauvoir's main theory of femininity. Based on the results of the analysis and findings made by the author about the representation of femininity in the character Juno in the film "Kucumbu Body Indahku". Juno's character can be said to be a man who tends to be feminine and less masculine, according to the description of Simone de Beauvoir's femininity characteristics, namely, cowardice, caring, emotional, multitasking, kind, patient, obedient, loves beauty and shy. But that doesn't matter, because these characters tend to be positive.Film merupakan salah satu media komunikasi massa yang paling berpengaruh dan masif. Film “Kucumbu Tubuh Indahku” salah satu film yang memiliki pengaruh tersebut.. Film ini menceritakan alur perjalanan hidup seorang penari dan koreografer profesional di Indonesia, Rianto. Dalam film ini, Rianto diceritakan sebagai Juno, seorang bocah yatim piatu, yang memiliki perjalanan hidup yang pilu dan penuh kekerasan, sehingga dapat meleburnya karakter feminim dan maskulin yang ada pada tubuhnya. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif deskriptif  dengan pendekatan semiotika, salah satunya semiotika Roland Barthes. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui dan memperlihatkan bagaimana dan apa saja tanda-tanda, makna-makna dari hasil representasi femininitas pada tokoh Juno dalam film “Kucumbu Tubuh Indahku”. Ada beberapa teori yang penulis gunakan dalam penelitian ini, yaitu, teori film sebagai komunikasi massa, media massa, representasi, semiotika Roland Barthes, dan teori utama femininitas Simone de Beauvoir. Berdasarkan hasil analisis dan temuan yang penulis lakukan tentang representasi femininitas pada tokoh Juno dalam film “Kucumbu Tubuh Indahku”. Tokoh Juno dapat dikatakan sebagai laki-laki yang cenderung feminim dan kurang maskulin, sesuai dengan penjabaran karakteristik femininitas Simone de Beauvoir, yaitu, penakut, peduli, lemah, emosional, multitasking, baik, sabar, taat, menyukai keindahan dan pemalu. Tetapi hal itu tidak menjadi masalah, karena karakter tersebut cenderung positif.

This study aims to describe the Islamic perspective on moral values in the short story Daulah Al-‘Ashāfīr by Taufīq Al-Chakīm. The method used in this study is a qualitative descriptive method. The object of this research is the Daulah Al-Ashāfīr short story by Taufīq Al-Chakīm using Roland Barthes's Semiotic theory. The data used is the text in the form of quotations that show moral values in the Daulah Al-Ashāfīr. Analysis is done by reading, then recording things that show moral values in the Daulah Al-Ashāfīr. Furthermore, collecting secondary data that supports the research. Then analyze the moral values of Daulah Al-Ashāfīr by using Roland Barthes's semiotic theory and proceed with an Islamic perspective on that value. Finally, make a conclusion. The results of the study show that moral values in the short story Daulah Al-Ashāfīr by Taufīq Al-Chakīm are divided into three, namely (1) religious moral values, (2) social moral values, (3) and individual moral values. All three moral values are in accordance with Islamic teachings, there is human relations with God, human relations with others, and human relations with yourself.

Sejak berkembangnya fashion muslimah di dunia, ada banyak perusahaan –perusahaaan yang menayangkan perempuan Muslim berhijab pada iklan mereka, salah satu contohnya iklan pada produk Amerika. Iklan-iklan tersebut ialah Nike, American Eagle, Fenty Beauty, Covergirl,dan Gap. Fenomena ini layak untuk dikaji, karena terdapat sesuatu yang sangat bersifat kontradiktif. Amerika sangat mahsyur dengan Islamofobianya, sedangkan perempuan Muslim berhijab merupakan identitas dari agama Islam. Oleh karena itu, artikel ini hendak mengungkap makna dari model muslimah pada iklan-iklan produk Amerika tersebut. Metode yang digunakan ialah kualitatif deskriptif dan menerapkan teori semiotika Roland Barthes dan teori religifikasi komoditas. Artikel ini menemukan bahwa makna perempuan Muslim berhijab merujuk kepada fenomena kehidupan muslimah saat ini. Seperti, standar kecantikan dan gaya hidup para muslimah, kebebasan dalam berekspersi dan menampilkan kemampuan muslimah, serta diversitas representasi kecantikan pada perempuan. Terdapat tiga mitos (ideologi) yang ditemukan pada artikel ini ialah bentuk resistensi dan dekonstruksi stereotip negatif terhadap perempuan Muslim di Amerika, standar kecantikan, dan nilai-nilai egalitarianisme. Oleh karena itu, artikel ini beragumen bahwa iklan merupakan sebuah gerakan bawah tanah bagi para perempuan Muslim sebagai bentuk resistensi mereka terhadap stigama-stigma negatif yang ada di masyarakat Amerika, dengan cara mengekspresikan identitas, abilitas, dan nilai-nilai egalitarianisme.[Since muslimah fashion has risen in the world, many companies showing Muslim women who wear hijab in their advertisements, including American brands advertisements. They are Nike, American Eagle, Covergirl, Fenty Beauty, and Gap. This case is important to be discussed, because it is completely opposite. America is well-known as Islamophobia country and hijab-Muslim women as an identity of Islam religion. Therefore, the study aims to reveal the meaning of Muslimah model in these advertisements. The method used in this study is a a qualitative descriptive method and applies Roland Barthes semiotic theory and religification of commodities theory. This research found the meanings of muslimah models refer to the current phenomena of muslimah life such as the modern beauty and lifestyle of muslimah, and the freedom in showing their status and skill, and the diversity in the representation of women beauty. Three myths (ideologies) found in this research are a deconstruction of the negative stereotype of muslimah in America, beauty standard, and egalitarianism values. Therefore, this research argues that the advertisement is an underground movement of muslim women as their resistance to negative stigmas in American society by expressing their identities, ability, and egalitarianism values.]

Wood Job! is a film produced by Japanese theme-rural comedy-drama. The film, directed by Yaguchi Shinobu is an adaptation of the novel �Kamusari naa naa Nichijo�by Miura Shion. It tells a story of a high school student from the city that had to go through life as a forest farmer (lumberjack) in a remote village, with still so many myths, traditions, and the homage. The existences of the film in the community have a unique meaning among other communication media. Besides regarded as effective communication media in the dissemination of ideas and concepts, the film is also a medium of artistic expression provide disclosure paths of creativity, as well as culture media which depict human life and personality of a nation. Film can be considered as the transformation of people's lives, because in the film we can see the reflection of reality. To find out how the overview of cultural values and local wisdom in this film, researcher using a qualitative descriptive analysis with reference to the use of semiotics model of Roland Barthes. Researcher examine the signs appearing through three levels of meaning, denotation, connotation, and myth. Semiotic approach chosen for semiotics can be used to describe many things that are not visible on the surface. Semiotics able to peels more about the hidden meanings in it. This research is expected to broaden the Indonesian peoples to further the preservation of nature, using natural resources wisely. Mengisahkan tentang seorang pelajar SMA dari kota harus menjalani kehidupan sebagai seorang petani hutan di sebuah desa terpencil, dengan masih begitu banyak mitos, tradisi, dan sisi penghormatan. Keberadaan film di tengah masyarakat mempunyai makna yang unik diantara media� komunikasi lainnya. Selain dipandang sebagai media komunikasi yang efektif dalam penyebarluasan ide dan gagasan, film juga merupakan media ekspresi seni yang memberikan jalur pengungkapan kreativitas, serta media budaya yang melukiskan kehidupan manusia dan kepribadian suatu bangsa. Film dapat dikatakan sebagai transformasi kehidupan masyarakat, karena dalam film kita bisa melihat cerminan dari realitas. Untuk mengetahui bagaimana gambaran nilai budaya dan kearifan lokal dalam film ini, peneliti menggunakan analisis deskriptif kualitatif dengan mengacu pada penggunaan model semiotika Roland Barthes. Peneliti mengkaji tanda-tanda yang muncul melalui tiga tingkatan makna, yaitu denotasi, konotasi, dan mitos. Pendekatan semiotika dipilih karena semiotika dapat digunakan untuk menjelaskan berbagai hal yang tidak tampak di permukaan. Semiotika mampu mengupas lebih dalam mengenai makna-makna yang tersembunyi di dalamnya. �Penelitian ini diharapkan mampu membuka wawasan masyarakat Indonesia untuk lebih menjaga kelestarian alam, dengan menggunakan sumber daya alam secara bijaksana. Sangat disayangkan jika hutan Indonesia yang merupakan paru-paru dunia disalahgunakan oleh oknum-oknum yang tidak bertanggung jawab demi kepentingan kelompok semata.

This study aims to describe 1) the form of cohesion contained in the news Watching Sakinah Movies, UIN Yogyakarta Give Praise Students and 2) describing the forms of coherence contained in the news Watching Sakinah Film, Students of UIN Yogyakarta Give Praise. The subjects used in this study were news of watching Sakinah film, UIN Yogyakarta students giving praise, and the objects used were sentences containing grammatical cohesion, a form of lexical cohesion. The approach used in this study is a qualitative descriptive approach. The data in this study are sentences in the news of Watching Sakinah Movies, This student is a method of literature study. While the method of data analysis in this study is descriptive method analysis method, the method used to analyze and describe cohesion markers and analyze markers of coherence. Test The results of the study show that in the news of watching Sakinah films, UIN Yogyakarta Beri Pujian students have varied markers of cohesion and coherence in the Tebuireng Online news discourse. Cohesion markers were found to reference (3), substitution (1), ellipsis (2), conjunction (3), collocation (1), and markers of coherence found cause-effect relationships (2), relationship coherence suggestions — goals (1), coherence temporal relations (1), and coherence of causal relationships (1).
