The purpose of this study is to determine the critical thinking skills of students in class VIII B of SMP Negeri 2 Ciamis, Indonesia which emerged through a controversial issue model in social studies learning. This study used a qualitative and quantitative approach. 33 students in class VIII B were taken as the subject of this study. The four stages of classroom action research were planning, action, observation, and reflection which carried out in two cycles, and each cycle consists of two meetings. The data collection techniques used tests, observations, documentation, and field notes. The data analysis techniques used qualitative and quantitative descriptive analysis. The results of the study were: 1) social studies learning by means of a controversial issue model includes four steps, namely: (a) the teacher or student presented a case or issue related to the learning to be carried out, (b) the teacher made a group of students so that they were able to discuss problems or issues that had been presented. (c) the group representatives either as the defenders or the attackers of an opinion on a controversial issue, (d) then the teacher and students concluded and gave suggestions from the activity. 2) the implementation of the controversial Issue model in social studies learning could improve students' critical thinking skills. This can be seen from the average ability developed by each action reached 12.8 which was enough categories in cycle I, then changed to 16.8 which was good categories in cycle II. Keywords: Critical Thinking, Controversial Issues, Social Studies LearningABSTRAKTujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa kelas VIII B SMP Negeri 2 Ciamis yang muncul melalui model controversial issues dalam pembelajaran IPS. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dan kuantitatif dengan subjek penelitian siswa kelas VIII B SMP Negeri 2 Ciamis yang berjumlah 33 orang. Empat tahapan penelitian tindakan kelas meliputi: perencanaan, tindakan, observasi, dan refleksi. yang dilaksanakan dalam dua siklus, dan tiap siklus terdiri dari dua pertemuan. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan tes, observasi, studi dokumen dan catatan lapangan. Teknik analisis data menggunakan analisis deskriptif kualitatif dan kuantitatif. Hasil penelitian yang di peroleh adalah: 1) Bahwa pembelajaran IPS dengan menerapkan model controversial issue meliputi empat langkah yaitu : (a) guru atau siswa menyodorkan suatu kasus atau isu yang berkaitan dengan pembelajaran yang akan di laksanakan, (b) guru membentuk kelompok siswa agar mampu membahas masalah atau isu yang telah di sajikan. (c) perwakilan kelompok dapat menjadi pembela atau penyerang suatu  pendapat tentang isu kontroversial di sertai alasan. (d) kemudian guru dan siswa menyimpulkan serta memberi saran terhadap pembelajaran yang telah terjadi. 2) Implementasi model controversial Issue dalam pembelajaran IPS mampu meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa. Hal ini dapat dilihat dari rata-rata kemampuan yang dikembangkan setiap tindakan mencapai 12,8 berkategori cukup pada siklus I, kemudian berubah menjadi 16,8 berkategori baik pada siklus II. Kata kunci : Berpikir Kritis, Controversial Issues, Pembelajaran IPS

The present research aims to analyze the need for the Probing Prompting model in social studies learning to improve students' critical thinking skills during the Covid-19 pandemic. This study employs qualitative research with a descriptive analysis approach (Moleong, 2014). The data collection technique used is documentation that involves the study of some books, journals, and the regulation that is issued by the Minister of Education and Culture regarding learning policies during the Covid-19 pandemic. The results in the study show that there are various problems experienced during the social studies learning process during the Covid-19 pandemic. The problems found are (1) The social studies learning during the Covid-19 pandemic still employs conventional models, (2) Teachers assign tasks to students without providing learning materials, and (3) The social studies learning only focuses on completing materials and learning outcomes in the cognitive aspects. Therefore, the Probing Prompting model can be used as a solution and reference for teachers in the social studies learning process. The reason is that Probing Prompting model is proven to be able to improve the quality of social studies learning and improve students' critical thinking skills that are undeniably required in dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia.

<p>This study aims to improving critical thinking skills of student of class XI MIA 1 SMA Negeri 6 Surakarta in the academic year 2015/2016 through the implementation of Constructivist-Metacogitive model. This research considered as Classroom Action Research that performed whitin 2 cycles and consist of 4 steps namely planning, action, observation, and reflection. The research procedure refers to Kemmis-Mc.Taggart spiral technique. Data are obtained by questionnaire, essay test, interview, and documentation. Data analysis using qualitative descriptive technique. The main data regarding students' critical thinking skills covering several aspects, namely the interpretation, analysis, evaluation, inference, explanation and self-regulation was measured using a test arranged by the researcher. Data analysis using descriptive analysis technique. Data validation using triangulation techniques. The average yield of pre-cycle critical thinking skills is 33.71% (low), then increased to 47.6% (average) at the first cycle, and increased to 75.76% (high) at the second cycle. The student’s critical thingking skill improvement have reached the reseach target (≥20%), Thus, application of constructivist-metacognitive models can improve students' critical thinking skills. The results showed that the application of Constructivist Model-metacognitive improving critical thinking skills of the students of class XI MIA 1 SMA Negeri 6 Surakarta.</p><p><strong><em>Keywords</em></strong>: Constructivis-metacognitive models, Critical Thinking Skills, Coordination System.</p>

This research was conducted with problems in class VIII students, amounting to 20 students at the Satya Wacana Christian Middle School in Salatiga regarding critical thinking skills and learning outcomes. Therefore researchers want to take action to improve learning by using the Think Talk and Write (TTW) model. This type of research is the study of class action using Kurt Lewin's research design. The instrument of data collection uses test instruments, observation sheets, and questionnaires. Analysis of the data used is descriptive comparative. The indicator of the success of critical thinking skills and learning outcomes is 75%. The results obtained from this study are that there is an increase in critical thinking skills and learning outcomes of class VIII Satya Wacana Christian Middle School Salatiga. In the first cycle the results of critical thinking skills are 55% of students who have high critical thinking skills, while in the second cycle there is an increase of 85% of students who have high critical thinking skills. Then in the pre-cycle learning outcomes there were 25% of students whose grades reached KKM, the first cycle there were 70% of students completed KKM, and in the second cycle there was an increase of 90% of students who completed KKM. So the conclusion in this study that the use of Think Talk and Write (TTW) learning model can improve critical thinking skills and student learning outcomes in social studies subjects of class VIII Satya Wacana Christian Middle School Salatiga.

Artikel ini bertujuan untuk menunjukkan efektifitas model pembelajaran controversial issue dalam meningkatkan kemampuan berfikir kritis mahasiswa pada mata kuliah Pendidikan Kewarganegaraan di Unit Pelaksana Teknis Mata Kuliah Pengembangan Kepribadian Universitas Sriwijaya. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian tindakan kelas (classroom action research) sebanyak tiga siklus dimana setiap siklus melalui tahapan perencanaan, pelaksanaan, observasi, evaluasi dan refleksi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa implementasi model pembelajaran controversial issue dapat meningkatkan kemampuan berfikir kritis mahasiswa dalam pembelajaran mata kuliah Pendidikan Kewarganegaraan. Peningkatan kemampuan berfikir kritis tersebut terlihat pada keterampilan mahasiswa dalam mengidentifikasi masalah, mendefinisikan masalah, mengeksplorasi masalah, mengevaluasi dan mengintegrasikan berbagai macam solusi menjadi suatu jawaban yang komprehensif terhadap suatu permasalahan.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------This article tries to reveal the effectiveness of controversial issue based teaching model to increase students’ critical thinking skills at Unit Pelaksana Teknis Mata Kuliah Pengembangan Kepribadian Universitas Sriwijaya. It was a classroom action research with three cycles, each of which consists of planing, observation, evaluation and reflection. The results reveal that the implementation of controversial issue based teaching model can increase students’ critical thinking skills in Citizenship Education Program. This increasing of critical thinking skills was indicated by the skills to identify problem, to define problem, to explore problem, to evaluate, and to integrate any kinds of solutions in order to comprehend the problem.

This article aims to find out how to develop student’s critical thinking skills through Problem Based Learning. Single-case single-side case study design is using for method this study, involve one lecture. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and analyze document. The resultz were obtained, showing that the development of mathematics critical thinking skills was carried out using the problem based learning of two component: (i) controversial issues, and (ii) active debate. Temuan penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa problem based learning dapat dijadikan sebagai salah satu alternative untuk mengembangkan kemampuan berfikir kritis matematis mahasiswa.

The STAD cooperative learning model can support active, independent and responsible learning for students. The application of this model is expected to improve students' critical thinking skills. The purpose of this study was to determine the improvement of students' critical thinking skills using Edmodo-assisted learning models. Edmodo was modified to become a teacher tool to expand learning at home. This research is an experimental study using a pretest-posttest control group design involving 39 students of class VIII MTs At-Taqwa Beru, Sikka, East Nusa Tenggara. Based on the results of the study it was found that the Edmodo-assisted STAD type cooperative learning model can improve students' critical thinking skills.

This study aims to analyze the improvement of students’ critical thinking skills in the features of focus, supporting reasons, reasoning, organization, conventions and integration through the implementation of argument mapping-based guided inquiry learning models. Type of this research is classroom action research, a systematic inquiry with the goal of informing practice in particular situation which adopted Kemmis and McTaggart’s models which follows the cycle of planning, action, observation and reflection. It was conducted in class XI-Avenzoar of SMA Unggulan CT Foundation Deli Serdang in the academic year 2019/2020. The sampling technique was done by total sampling consisting of 24 students with a composition of 6 boys and 18 girls. The instrument used the essay tests adapted from Finken based on Illinois Critical Thinking Essay Test and argument mapping based on van Gelder on the concept of human excretory system. The data collection methods were included the interview, observation and documentation. The whole data was employed by descriptive analysis developed by Miles and Huberman which includes three concurrent activities, data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing. The results showed that the features of focus and reasoning from critical thinking skills tests in Cycle I obtained the highest score of all, while the features of supporting reasons and conventions obtained the lowest score and showed no improvement at all. Meanwhile in Cycle II, the features of focus and reasoning increased significantly and obtained the highest score as well. However, the feature of supporting reasons increased simultaneously but conventions still remained. It definitely showed that there was a significant improvement between groups in Cycle I (65.42) and Cycle II (80.21) from the average score of students’ critical thinking skills through their argument mapping grading. The aspects of argument mapping, such as claims, reasons, objections, rebuttals and debates improved well between these cycles. It was strongly suggested that argument mapping could enhance students’ critical thinking skills in Biology. From the results and discussion, it could be concluded that the implementation of the argument mapping-based guided inquiry learning models on the concept of human excretory system had a very positive and significant improvement on students’ critical thinking skills. The students’ critical thinking skills were in the high category.

<p>This study aims to: (1) Know the development process and (2) increase the critical thinking skills of class XI TKJ students of SMK Bina Teknologi Purwokerto on bandwidth management material.</p><p>This research is a Classroom Action Research which was conducted from 27 October 2020 to 23 November 2020. The stages of the research consisted of planning, action, observation and reflection. The research was conducted in 3 cycles, each of which consisted of one meeting. The research instrument consisted of observation sheets and tests of students' critical thinking skills. Learning in this study uses the Problem Based Learning learning model. The action of data analysis used data from observations and the process of analyzing data from the test results of students' critical thinking skills.</p><p>Before the implementation of the Problem Based Learning learning model for XI TKJ students, data was obtained with an average grade XI TKJ grade 54 and the completeness of students who had a score above 36% KKM. After applying the Problem Based Learning model in cycle 1, the class average increase to 60.04 and the completeness of students who have a score above the KKM is 44%. Then it has increased after cycle 2 with an average class score of 69.72 and completeness of students who have scores above the KKM 64%. Then it has increased after cycle 3 with an average class score of 76.72 and the completeness of students who have a score above the KKM of 80%. AbstrakMata kuliah IPA Terpadu di IAIN Bengkulu merupakan mata kuliah baru bagi mahasiswa Tadris IPA. Hal ini dikarenakan pada tahun 2017/2018 baru ada tiga angkatan. Sehingga, hasil belajar mata kuliah ini tidak terlalu baik. Menurut wawancara dengan salah satu mahasiswa, salah satu penyebabnya adalah kesulitan mengintegrasikan komponen kimia, fisika, biologi secara bersamaan pada satu materi tertentu. Lebih spesifiknya, mahasiswa kesulitan untuk menjelaskan satu materi tertentu yang penjabarannya harus dijelaskan secara komprehensif baik dari segi mata kuliah kimia, fisika, biologi.  Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melakukan perbaikan pembelajaran dan meningkatkan kemampuan berfikir kritis mahasiswa melalui pendekatan saintifik pada mata kuliah IPA Terpadu. Metode penelitian ini menggunakan penelitan tindakan kelas. Pembelajarannya terdiri dari dua siklus. Setiap siklus terdiri dari beberapa tahapan, yaitu; perencanaan, tindakan, observasi dan refleksi. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah observasi dan tes hasil belajar. Waktu dilakukan pada semester genap tahun akademik 2017/2018. Subjek penelitian adalah mahasiswa program studi Tadris IPA semester dua tahun akademik 2017/2018 yang sedang menempuh matakuliah IPA Terpadu. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa hasil belajar siswa yang dilakukan selama 2 siklus pembelajaran telah meningkat pada siklus yang ke-dua. Selain itu juga kemampuan berpikir kritis mahasiswa dalam pelaksanaan pembelajaran di matakuliah IPA Terpadu melalui pendekatan saintifik dapat terukur dan telah berhasil berdasarkan indikator keberhasilan. Increasing the Critical Thinking Ability of Tadris IPA Students through a Scientific Approach in Integrated Science Courses AbstractThe Integrated Science course at IAIN Bengkulu is a new subject for Tadris IPA students. This is because in 2017/2018 there were only three generations. So, the learning outcomes of this course are not very good. According to an interview with one of the students, one of the reasons is the difficulty of integrating chemical, physical, biological components simultaneously on one particular material. More specifically, students find it difficult to explain one particular material whose translation must be explained comprehensively both in terms of chemistry, physics, biology courses. Therefore, this study aims to improve learning and improve students' critical thinking skills through a scientific approach to Integrated Science courses. This research method uses classroom action research. Learning consists of two cycles. Each cycle consists of several stages, namely; planning, action, observation and reflection. Data collection techniques used are observation and learning outcomes tests. Time is carried out in the even semester of the 2017/2018 academic year. The research subjects were students of the 2017/2018 academic year Tadris IPA study program who were taking the Integrated Science course. The results showed that student learning outcomes carried out during the 2 learning cycles had increased in the second cycle. In addition, students' critical thinking skills in the implementation of learning in the Integrated Science course through a scientific approach can be measured and have been successful based on indicators of success.

ABSTRAK Telah dilakukan Penelitian Tindakan Kelas untuk mengimplementasikan modul IPA berbasis etnosains masyarakat Bengkulu melalui Discovery Learning untuk meningkatkan keterampilan berpikir kritis mahasiswa Program Studi Pendidikan IPA FKIP Universitas Bengkulu yang mengambil mata kuliah IPA 1. Kegiatan penelitian ini  dilakukan dua siklus dengan dua kali pertemuan. Setiap siklus terdiri dari empat langkah penelitian yaitu perencanaan, tindakan, observasi, dan refleksi. Perangkat pembelajaran terdiri dari (1) RPP model Discovery Learning; (2) Modul IPA berbasis etnosains Masyarakat Bengkulu materi Pengukuran; (3) LKPD; (4) instrumen penilaian Aktivitas dan Keterampilan Berpikir Kritis. Teknik analisis data menggunakan analisis deskriptif. Hasil penelitian yang diperoleh adalah adanya peningkatan Keterampilan Berpikir Kritis  Mahasiswa melalui pre test dan post test.  Pada siklus I,  rata-rata pretes adalah sebesar 71,92 dengan standar deviasi sebesar 6,01 dan postes sebesar 75,77 dengan standar deviasi sebesar 4,75. Pada siklus II, rata-rata pretes adalah sebesar 80,19 dengan standar deviasi sebesar 4,75 dan rata-rata postes sebesar 83,85 dengan standar deviasi sebesar 4,83. Dari hasil tersebut dapat dibandingkan bahwa peningkatan siklus II  lebih besar dibandingkan dengan siklus I. Peningkatan kemampuan berpikir kritis mahasiswa pada siklus I sebesar 58,69 dan siklus II sebesar 63,45. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian tersebut, dapat disimpulkan bahwa penerapan Modul IPA Berbasis Etnosains Masyarakat Bengkulu melalui Discovery Learning dapat meningkatkan keterampilan berpikir kritis mahasiswa. Kata kunci: Classroom Action Research, Modul, Etnosains, Discovery Learning, Kemampuan Berpikir Kritis. ABSTRACT A Classroom Action Research has been carried out to implement a science module based on the ethnoscience of the Bengkulu people through discovery learning to improve the critical thinking skills of students of the Program Studi Pendidikan IPA FKIP Universitas Bengkulu who take the IPA 1 course. The data analysis technique used descriptive analysis. The results obtained were an increase in students' critical thinking skills through the pretest and posttest. In the first cycle, the average pretest was 71.92 with a standard deviation of 6.01 and post-test was 75.77 with a standard deviation of 4.75. In cycle II, the average pretest was 80.19 with a standard deviation of 4.75 and the average post-test was 83.85 with a standard deviation of 4.83. From these results it can be compared that the increase in cycle II is greater than that of cycle I. The increase in students' critical thinking skills in cycle I is 58.69 and cycle II is 63.45.
