The wound is very common in both developed and developing countries. It is a breach in the normal tissue continuum, resulting in a variety of cellular & molecular sequel. A wound is a major health problem because the incidence of severe complications is high & financial resources are limited. Vrana is an important chapter of Shalya Tantra due to its involvement in many surgical conditions. This, phenomena of Vrana is not only limited to the cutaneous lesion but may also extend up to muscles blood vessels, ligaments, bones, joints, visceral organs and other vital parts of the body. The diagnostic criterion has been dealt in a very detailed manner by Acharya Susruth. Wound healing has been the burning problem in a surgical practice because of a remarkable increase in the number of traumatic cases. A wound causes a number of changes in the body that can affect the healing process, including changes in energy, protein, carbohydrate, fat, vitamin and mineral metabolism. Various Ayurveda literatures, particularly, Sushruta Samhita, which is said to be an ancient textbook of surgery in Ayurveda, has mentioned about the diet for the person suffering from the wound, and the author said that diet plays a very important role in the wound healing process. Sushruta - The father of surgery has scientifically classified it in a systemic manner, whose wealth of clinical material and the principles of management are valid even today. Shalya Tantra (surgical branch in Ayurveda Science) is one of the important branch of Ayurveda, in which surgical and para-surgical techniques has described for management of various diseases. Vrana is the most important and widely described chapter of Shalya Tantra. Vrana (wound) is one of them, which have been managed by human being from starting of civilization. Under the circumstances, the first thing which the men came across was the injury from different sources which caused him the Vrana. Vrana is seen as debilitating and scaring disorder, usually seen affecting the human being at any age. Well balanced nutrition plays an essential role in the wound healing.

Geriatric population (> 60 years) is rapidly increasing in India, It has been increased upto 8.6% in 2011. Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disorder and a major health problem, a?ecting a large section of the Indian population, especially as its incidence increases with advancing age. Host of complications are associated with this disease, one of which is the e?ect on platelet count.  This study compares platelet count between diabetic and non-diabetic elderly.  It is observed that Hyperglycaemia in diabetic persons is responsible for increased Thrombopoietin production at the cellular level, which leads to raised platelet count -Reticulated Thrombocytosis – when compared to non diabetics. Platelets, especiallyreticulated thrombocytes are associated with uncontrolled blood sugar levels in the body and are well known for their role in artherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (CVD). Keywords: platelet count, diabetic and non-diabetic & geriatric.

Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) have become a major health problem because of the associated high morbidity and mortality rates observed in affected patients. Gut microbiota has recently been implicated as a novel endocrine organ that plays critical roles in the regulation of cardiometabolic and renal functions of the host via the production of bioactive metabolites. This review investigated the evidence from several clinical and experimental studies that indicated an association between the gut microbiota-derived toxins and CVDs. We mainly focused on the pro-inflammatory gut microbiota-derived toxins, namely lipopolysaccharides, derived from Gram-negative bacteria, and trimethylamine N-oxide and described the present status of research in association with these toxins, including our previous research findings. Several clinical studies aimed at exploring the effectiveness of reducing the levels of these toxins to inhibit cardiovascular events are currently under investigation or in the planning stages. We believe that some of the methods discussed in this review to eliminate or reduce the levels of such toxins in the body could be clinically applied to prevent CVDs in the near future.

Osteoporosis is a major international health problem, accentuated by increasing longevity. Osteoporosis as “a systemic skeletal disease characterized by low bone mass and bone architectural leading to increased risk”. Menopause is the normal process but now a day it becoming the major health problem in developing countries like India.   In Ayurveda Menopause deals with jarapakvaavasta of the body Jara and Rajonivritti are manifested due to the progressive reduction in the functional ability of Agnis, which results in an inadequate tissue nutrition. This nutritional imbalance triggers the irreversible degenerative changes in „Sapta Dhatus‟. The disease Osteoporosis is somewhat similar to the description of Asthi Kshaya in which metabolism of Asthi Dhatu is disturbed. Rasayana therapy has proved efficacious in managing and preventing many chronic conditions till date. As Postmenopausal Osteoporosis is a disease related to aging, Rasayana can provide the better alternative to increasing quality of life. Here, the drug Lashuna also one of the Rasayana guna dravya.

Abstract Background Obesity is a major health problem that affects different vascular systems, including cerebrovascular circulation. Carotid duplex is the best screening tool for early diagnosis of cerebrovascular changes in relation to different risk factors including obesity. The present study aims to evaluate the effect of body mass index on the parameters of extracranial vessels in healthy subjects using vascular duplex ultrasonography. Results The intimal medial thickness in the common carotid is found to increase as the body mass index and body weight increase (directly related), with this increase being significant (P-value < 0.05). Conclusion These findings indicate that increase in body mass index can adversely affect duplex parameters of the common carotid artery. Clinical trial registration NCT03252652. Microfilaria infection is one of the major health problem in developing countries like India, especially in rural areas. In most of the cases microfilaria was an incidental finding in FNAC smears prepared from swellings from various locations in the body and also from fluid aspirate. Peripheral blood smear examination is usually done for the diagnosis. Here, we presented a series of eight cases with very unusual and rare locations. We found microfilaria in subcutaneous arm swelling, pleural effusion, axillary swelling, breast and salivary gland. All cases were rare and unique.

Pulmonary tuberculosis is a major health problem in Bangladesh that is responsible for about 7% of total death in a year. This study was conducted to isolate and identify Mycobacterium tuberculosis from sputum and to evaluate the efficacy of PCR as a modern diagnostic tool, for diagnosis of pulmonary tuberculosis, especially in the smear negative cases. One hundred and fifty suspected pulmonary TB patients (male/ female: 97/53) were included in this study. Single morning sputum was collected from each patient and diagnostic potential of PCR was compared with staining and culture. Twenty five (16.7%) sputum were positive by ZN stained smear. Among 125 smear negative samples, 13 (10.4%) yielded growth in culture in LJ media and 21 (16.8%) samples were positive by PCR. The sensitivity and specificity of PCR in smear negative cases was 100% and 92.9% respectively. Mean detection time in PCR was 24 hours. PCR detected M. tuberculosis in 21 smear negative and 9 culture negative samples. For diagnosis of tuberculosis in smear negative cases, PCR directly from sputum was a very sensitive and accurate method. In conclusion, PCR may be done, especially in clinically suspected pulmonary tuberculosis patients who remain negative by conventional methods.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.3329/bjmm.v6i2.19368 Bangladesh J Med Microbiol 2012; 06(02): 2-6

Therefore, the ECC must be prevented and for teeth that have had dental caries they should be givenproper treatment so as not to worsen and affect the quality of life in children. Prevention of thisdisease is a significant component in any health program to prepare for the optimal basis forthe oral health of children. This condition will become a serious health problem if not handledproperly, and it is a major health problem for health providers throughout the world.Primarypreventive must be initiated since a woman getting pregnant. Keywords: Early Childhood Caries (ECC), prevention, treatment
