The object of the research in this work was the leading personal characteristics and professionally important qualities of firefighters-rescuers, on the basis of which the psychological structural model of an effective professional is being developed. The aim of the study was to identify and interpret the indicators of the blocks of personal qualities of the subjects: emotional, communicative, intellectual and self-regulatory. To solve this goal, the 16-factor personality questionnaire of R. Kettell was used. The results of the study demonstrate that firefighters rescuers have such pronounced qualities as willingness to take risks, decisiveness, courage, stress resistance and moderate social introversion.

In this study we proposed to estimate the impact of lifestyle, negative affectivity, and college students’ personal characteristics on eating behavior. We aimed to verify that negative affectivity moderates the relationship between lifestyle and eating behavior. We assessed eating behaviors of cognitive restraint (CR), uncontrolled eating (UE), and emotional eating (EE)) with the Three-Factor Eating Questionnaire-18. We assessed lifestyle with the Individual Lifestyle Profile, and we assessed negative affectivity with the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale-21. We constructed and tested (at p < .05) a hypothetical causal structural model that considered global (second-order) and specific (first-order) lifestyle components, negative affectivity and sample characteristics for each eating behavior dimension. Participants were 1,109 college students ( M age = 20.9, SD = 2.7 years; 65.7% females). We found significant impacts of lifestyle second-order components on negative affectivity (β = −0.57–0.19; p < 0.001–0.01) in all models. Physical and psychological lifestyle components impacted directly only on CR (β=−0.32–0.81; p < 0.001). Negative affectivity impacted UE and EE (β = 0.23–0.30; p < 0.001). For global models, we found no mediation pathways between lifestyle and CR or UE. For specific models, negative affectivity was a mediator between stress management and UE (β=−0.07; p < 0.001). Negative affectivity also mediated the relationship between thoughts of dropping an undergraduate course and UE and EE (β = 0.06–0.08; p < 0.001). Participant sex and weight impacted all eating behavior dimensions (β = 0.08–0.34; p < 0.001–0.01). Age was significant for UE and EE (β=−0,14– −0.09; p < 0.001–0.01). Economic stratum influenced only CR (β = 0.08; p = 0.01). In sum, participants’ lifestyle, negative emotions and personal characteristics were all relevant for eating behavior assessment.

Purpose This paper aims to analyse researchers’ awareness about plagiarism and impact of plagiarism detection tools on the actions that they take to prevent plagiarism. It also employs a structural model that examines whether awareness of plagiarism and anti-plagiarism tools have any significant effect on the actions taken by the researchers to avoid plagiarism. Design/methodology/approach A survey questionnaire was distributed to researchers at a large public university in Bangladesh. The survey accumulated 184 valid responses. Descriptive statistics were obtained to assess researchers’ awareness about plagiarism and impact of plagiarism detection tools and the actions taken by them. The reasons that may cause plagiarism were also identified. The awareness of the availability of the anti-plagiarism software that was being used by the university and its actual use by the researchers was gathered through the survey. Non-parametric Mann–Whitney and Kruskal–Wallis tests were conducted to investigate the differences in awareness levels and actions in terms of gender, age, discipline and current level of research. The chi-square test was carried out to examine the relationship between awareness about the availability of the anti-plagiarism software and its use by the researchers. Finally, the survey data were analysed using structural equation modeling to examine the effects of awareness of plagiarism and anti-plagiarism software on the actions taken by the researchers. Findings The study revealed that the level of awareness regarding plagiarism and impact of plagiarism detection software is generally high among the researchers. There are some significant differences between researchers’ demographic and personal characteristics and their awareness levels and actions with regard to plagiarism. The findings indicate that almost three-quarters of the researchers were aware about the anti-plagiarism tool that is being used, whereas more than half of the researchers indicated that they used the software to assess their works. The results of the structural equation model do not show a good fit, although there is strong statistical evidence that awareness about plagiarism and anti-plagiarism software has significantly impacted researchers’ actions towards preventing plagiarism. Originality/value There is no reported study on researchers’ awareness of plagiarism and its affiliated issues in Bangladesh. The findings of this study will not only provide useful insights regarding awareness about plagiarism but also assist university authorities to formulate relevant policy and take necessary actions against plagiarism in higher education institutions.

Psychological safety of a specialist’s personality in stressful situations is a condition of his successful professional work. The empirical study is devoted to the investigation of personal qualities (stress resistance, religiosity and moral stability) underlying the psychological safety of future miners. The research involved 52 students aged from 18 to 25 years (average age – 19.9 years), 30 males and 22 females. Research methods: “Diagnostics of personality’s psychological safety” by I. I. Prikhodko, “Questionnaire of religiosity” by I. S. Shemet, “Friend-adviser-1” (DS-1) by E. K. Veselova, “Questionnaire of psychological resistance to stress” by E. V. Raspopin, “Psychological stress scale PSM-25” by Lemur-Thesier-Fillion. Academic success was assessed on the basis of students’ academic performance. Methods of mathematical statistics were used for data processing – T-criterion for independent samples, correlation and multiple regression analysis. The results of the study show that young men are characterized by a higher level of overall safety index and its specific components-motivational, volitional and internal comfort, as well as a lower level of stress, moral stability than young women. Significant positive connections between psychological safety of the person, all its components and stress resistance among students are revealed. Religiosity is significantly associated with the motivational and volitional characteristics of students, and is also the main predictor of psychological safety of the individual in life situations that exceed their own resources of coping with stress. Moral stability provides spiritual safety of personality, allows to keep the deep personal beginning of man. However, in a situation of moral choice, it increases students’ mental tension which negatively affects academic performance, while the psychological safety of the person is a condition for successful completion of the session. The article presents the results of an empirical study of the structure of the image of the older adolescent’s world. When analyzing the data, the computer program of statistical analysis of texts “ADVEGO”, content analysis, morphological and semantic analysis was used. Morphological analysis of empirical data has shown that the most used words belong to the category of nouns. Content analysis made it possible to identify eight semantic categories of word groups that characterize the levels of the image of the teenager’s world: nature, social, subject, friendship, school, hobbies and leisure, family, mental (needs, cognitive processes, emotions, feelings, personal qualities). The most significant level in terms of the volume of semantic units and the nature of ongoing processes is the mental level. The results of the conducted research allowed drawing the following conclusions. The individual structure of an older adolescent’s world image is a complex mental phenomenon that has universal, age and individual characteristics. Its universal characteristics are multi-levelness and hierarchy; age-related – dynamics, polarity, existentialism, and accentuation on the present time. The individual characteristics of an older adolescent’s world image are due to individual personal characteristics of the flow of his or her mental activity.

The article presents the research on personal qualities and characteristics of rescuers manifesting signs of professional estrangement. In extreme and extraordinary conditions, in particular, during fires and natural disasters, the requirements for certain personal characteristics of rescuers are significantly increased. That is, professional activity in special conditions significantly affects such professionals: on the one hand, personal development is promoted, and on the other hand, personal qualities can be deformed, therefore, it is necessary to determine specialists whose psychological characteristics do not corresponds the requirements of their work, or to re-allocate them for workplaces with taking into account their individual psychological peculiarities. The obtained results suggest that personal qualities of rescuers identifying themselves with their profession and rescuers with signs of professional estrangement are significantly different. Professionals with a high level of professional identification are characterized as decent and courteous in relations at work and out-of-work. They usually respond adequately to criticism or remarks, and behave on the base of their own emotions and ambitions at conflict situations. Specialists manifesting professional estrangement are often characterized as depressed individuals, dissatisfied with their position or the state of affairs at their work; so they often show ineffectiveness, indecision, and inconsistency in their actions during assignment implementations. Such specialists are characterized by their colleagues as conflict, irresponsible, stubborn and undisciplined people. They can respond inadequately on criticisms or comments. In general, the professional work for them is too difficult and leads to excessive mental stress, rapid fatigue, a feeling of impotence and exhaustion.
