The vegetable seed is one of the growing high-value subsectors in Nepal because of the increasing commercialization of vegetable production, the deficit of seed supply, and the rising involvement of different actors at different levels of its value chain. In this context, the present study was designed to analysis the value chain of vegetable seeds with a special focus on the competitiveness of the value chain actors. The study was conducted in Western Rukum, Nepal in 2017. Data from 210 randomly selected vegetable seed producers using simple random sampling, 13 seed traders including seed collectors, seed companies and agro vets, eight enablers as well as information from secondary sources were collected and analyzed by using descriptive statistics. The result showed that even having nine functional vegetable seed marketing channels in the district there was a weak relationship among value chain actors. The actors involved in the production and marketing sides had different areas of interest. The producers were typically interested in access to technical input and market assurance in both price and quantity, on the other hand, the market actors were interested in quality assurance and market-led price fixation. Additionally, the market information was limited to the local level seed traders. In the contrast, networking among local traders was found very strong. However, they were also not sure about the quality of seed produced by farmers and had to wait until the quality test by the seed company to clear their product. The finding of this study indicates farmers should maintain the quality of seed, the seed traders should provide the essential information to producers regarding the price and quality standard that need to be met, and government agencies should increase the extension service on the technical know-how of high yielding varieties based on consumers demand to promote the export of the seeds.

This study attempted to analyze the teff value chain in the Jimma Arjo District of East Wollega Zone, WesternEthiopia. The multistage sampling technique was employed to draw a sample of 123 teff producers, purposively selected 55 traders and 15 consumers. Both quantitative and qualitative data were collected from primary and secondary sources using pre-tested structured questionnaires and checklists. Descriptive statistics and Kendall’s coefficient of concordance were applied to analyze data. Results showed that the main teff value chain actors in the study area included input suppliers, producers, local collectors, wholesalers, retailers, andconsumers. In the district, there were no proper upgrading practices and governance systems in the teff value chain. The predicted probability that teff producers choose local collectors, wholesalers, retailers, and consumer outlets amounted to 45%, 69.9%, 20.4%, and 74.6%, respectively. Kendall’s coefficient of concordance (W) analysis showed that 68.5% and 46.2% of farmers agreed with each other on the ranking of constraints hindering teff production and marketing, respectively. Recommendations drawn from the study findings include the need to improve the input supply system and governance, eliminate issues found in the chain, train farmers, enhance the quality of market information, boost teff productivity and volume sales, strengthen the links between teff value chain actors, and improve support institutions.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate the relevance and contradictions of development aid in crafting governance responses for enabling long term social upgrading in global garment value chains. Since governance responses are multilevel, we propose to analyse the interrelation between the global and the local level through the case study of a private regulatory initiative of a new type: the Accord on Fire and Building Security in Bangladesh, operationally run like a development aid programme. We aim at explaining the reasons why it has been banned from operating in the country. Design/methodology/approach We use the framework of the Global Value Chain (GVC) approach since it is operationally used in development aid and has broadened its focus to investigating the link between economic and social upgrading. It further helps to understand multilevel and multiactor governance responses. Using multiple secondary sources we describe the context in which the Accord emerged, explore its provisions and operations, and analyse the contestation pertaining to its termination. We analyse the Accord both as a global governance tool and a field-level development aid actor that addresses social issues in GVCs. Findings As an ILO led operational programme, the Accord, since its inception, has proven globally effective at improving workplace safety for many workers. However it has been resented for being hegemonic and, as a governance tool, it has neither succeeded in addressing the flaws of private regulatory initiatives nor changed existing power relationships in GVCs. Originality/value The early termination of the Accord has not yet been analysed. In light of this, we propose new insights on the rising role of development aid in private governance responses.

Although North Korea is one of the most closed countries in the world, it has long been pursuing international cooperation with other countries in order to upgrade the quality of its film industry to international standards. Preceding studies on this topic have mainly focused on the political influences behind filmmaking in general and very few studies have exclusively dealt with North Korea’s international co-productions. In this respect, in order to develop a comprehensive understanding of the internalization strategy of North Korea’s film productions, this paper uses the global value chain as a framework for analysis. This approach helps understand the internationalization pattern of each value chain activity of film co-productions in terms of the film location and the methods for collaborating with foreign partners. By dividing the evolution of North Korea’s international co-productions into three periods since the 1980s, this paper finds that although North Korea has shown mixed results with different aspects of the film value chain, it has generally improved its internationalization over the three periods. This paper further provides strategic directions for North Korea by learning some of the successful Chinese experiences in the film sector regarding collaboration with foreign partners—to foster a win-win situation for all involved parties.

Software systems are any software product or applications that support business domains such as Manufacturing,Aviation, Health care, insurance and so on.Software quality is a means of measuring how software is designed and how well the software conforms to that design. Some of the variables that we are looking for software quality are Correctness, Product quality, Scalability, Completeness and Absence of bugs, However the quality standard that was used from one organization is different from other for this reason it is better to apply the software metrics to measure the quality of software. Attributes that we gathered from source code through software metrics can be an input for software defect predictor. Software defect are an error that are introduced by software developer and stakeholders. Finally, in this study we discovered the application of machine learning on software defect that we gathered from the previous research works.
