Abstract Background During the last decades we have witnessed gradually improved cardiovascular primary and secondary prevention, while life expectancy is increasing, with a growing population of elderly people. Heart failure is a disease of the elderly and end stage of other cardiac diseases. Accordingly, trends in incidence of heart failure are dynamic and may differ by age and gender Purpose To investigate overall trends in incidence for HF over the last decades in Western Sweden. Additionally we wanted to study incidence in relation to age and gender. Method The VEGA database is an administrative database of all patients managed in hospital care (through direct linkage to the Swedish nationwide patient registry) and/or in primary care facilities (private and public) living in Western Sweden. All patients with a main or contributory diagnosis of HF (I50) >18 years of age between 2008 and 2017 were included in our cohort. HF incidence was calculated based on the entire population of Vastra Gotaland (a region of Western Sweden). Results The adult population in Western Sweden increased by 8% from 2008 (n=1,234,609) to 2017 (n=1,338,906), with 69% <60 years of age and 50% female, both constant over time. In total, 62,229 incident cases of HF were identified during 2008–2017. In 2008 we identified 6464 cases with a mean age of 78.7 (11.5) and 49.8% (n=3222) male patients, while in 2017 5,727 cases were identified with a mean age of 78.3 (11.8) and 52.5% (n=3006) male cases. The yearly incidence rate of HF remained constant over the 10-year period but with large variations by age and gender. A constantly higher incidence of HF was seen for men compared to women in all age categories. Although overall incidence remained constant in the last decade, we did observe decreasing incidence among those >80 years of age with incidence rates dropping from 4.4% to 3.0% between 2008–2017 (80–90 years) and from 7.8 to 5.5% in the same period (>90 years of age). A similar pattern was seen in both men and women in these age groups with incidence decreasing over the last ten years. Conclusion The overall incidence of HF remained unchanged over the last decade. However a declining trend in incidence was observed in the oldest part of the population, who, however, constitutes only approximately 5% of the population. Our findings emphasize the need for implementation of effective preventive strategies for HF. Tourism sectors have great potentials in increasing regional income. The program from the government to increase the number of tourisms is to prioritize tourism development, one of which is tourism on Lombok Island. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the government role in the development of community-based tourism in Lombok, especially the Mandalika Special Economic Zone in Central Lombok Regency. The analysis technique used in this study is to use convinience sampling techniques that are rarely used in previous tourism research in Lombok. The study contended that government role in the development of community-based tourism includes planning, development of main facilities, tourism expenditure policies, making and enforcing regulations. It also underlined that the driving factors in economic growth required participation of local communities. The inhibiting factors of local communities are educational background, employment, and gender.

This study aims to analyze gender equality in the promotion of structural positions in the Government of West Java Province. This research design uses qualitative methods with data collection techniques in the form of in-depth interviews and documentation studies. While the research analysis technique is done by data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study concluded that gender equality in the promotion of structural positions in West Java Province had not been realized optimally because the competency, qualifications, and work behavior of female civil servants are considered lower than men. Various servants faced by female civil servants for good promotion internal factors, namely the dual role and lack of motivation of women to progress, also obstacles to external factors stemming from the family, community, and organizational culture that are not gendered responsive. In addition to competence, qualifications, and work behavior, other considerations were found for the promotion of the position of a female civil servant, namely: multiple roles, type of work and location of assignments; this made women less likely to get strategic position promotions.

This study examines the effect of financial literacy, saving attitudes, social influence, and goal clarity on the retirement planning construct. In addition, it investigates how the public demographic profile moderates these relationships. The questionnaire approach was utilized to collect data by adopting and customizing the measurement scale from previous studies. A systematic random sampling approach was employed on 323 prospective respondents. The outcomes of this study illustrate that all relationships are significantly and positively associated with retirement planning using structural equation modeling (SEM). Furthermore, all moderator variables (gender, age, status, income, and education) moderated the relationships. The government should construct a holistic retirement planning model that is based on demographic characteristics.

PurposeThe purpose of this study is to examine the effects of demographical factors (age, education and income); psychological factors which are future time perspective (FTP) and financial risk tolerance (FRT); along with financial literacy on retirement planning among female workers in Indonesia.Design/methodology/approachThis study applies a quantitative approach, where primary data was acquired through online surveys to 529 workers in various locations in Indonesia. After data cleaning, the final sample size was 304. The PLS-SEM technique was utilised to assess the structural model in the study.FindingsThe results of this study show that income affects an individual's perspective towards the future. Financial literacy is confirmed to have a direct effect on retirement planning activity. Furthermore, financial literacy appears to be a significant mediator between demographical factors and FTP in affecting retirement planning. An individual's acceptance towards risk is also affected by financial literacy.Practical implicationsThe general public, especially female workers group who have no retirement funds, need to be educated on financial literacy. The government might need to encourage other parties and work together to financially educate the public, specifically regarding investments for retirement planning.Originality/valueMost previous studies on retirement planning focused on demographical factors in general, and not specifically on a certain group. Filling the gap of existing studies, this study specifically discusses retirement planning done by female workers in Indonesia. Women's role as a workforce, with their psychological conditions and financial literacy, makes for an interesting topic to be studied further in terms of retirement planning.

This study was carried out to investigate the reasons that influence individuals to plan for retirement. A survey was conducted among employees of the International Islamic University Malaysia in Kuantan. Reasons to retire are almost similar across the globe, given that the basic needs of human beings are similar. There are many studies and literatures that investigate the factors that influence retirement which relates to the socio-economic factor such as retirement age, income, and gender. De Vaney identified that age and income are the important factors that act as a guide to pre-retirees in their retirement planning process.1 In this study, attaining the retired age is the main factor that relate to the individual’s planning for retirement. Other factors include household income, family and health. The findings of this study are parallel to the other research based on the analysis of the available literature review. Several implications emerge from these empirical findings. First, employees should prepare a proper retirement planning in their life and second, the authorities should provide better care and facilities to retirees.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to analyze financial literacy's effect on retirement planning among young adults in Mexico, with gender as a moderator variable. Planning refers to the actual or intended implementation of several retirement strategies: private pension funds, investing in assets, government subsidies and family assistance.Design/methodology/approachThe article's methodology is quantitative, empirical and cross-sectional. Ajzen's theory of planned behavior (1991) works as the theoretical framework to examine planning for retirement intentions determined by individuals' financial inclusion, attitudes, knowledge, behavior, occupation and family traits. The methodology follows generalized structural equation models (GSEM) with logistic regression basis, constructed with data from the National Survey on Financial Inclusion 2018.FindingsResults confirm that the most financially knowledgeable individuals have lesser intentions to pursue passive strategies, while financial behavior and inclusion associate with actively planning. Gender plays a fundamental role in retirement planning too.Research limitations/implicationsObservations for several years are necessary to effectuate longitudinal analysis. Further research should include a more in-depth study of strategy choice triggers and policy impact on retirement planning.Social implicationsFindings can be useful to public and private institutions focused on saving, investment and retirement, especially in economies comparable to Mexico's. Avoiding the higher social costs associated with poor retirement planning depends on timely decision-making.Originality/valueThis study goes beyond the traditional pension fund strategy to analyze other options. It delivers information about young people's long-term financial plans in Mexico concerning financial literacy and gender.
