The Scottish kilt is one of the world’s most renowned cultural garments, and the Highland dress industry contributes £350 million annually to the Scottish apparel industry. However, outsourcing and deceptive marketing tactics have negatively impacted the kiltmaking industry. The purpose of this study was to investigate Scottish kiltmakers’ knowledge and experiences as a basis for industry protection. A qualitative, phenomenological method employed interviews, observations, video and artefact analysis and prototyping to understand participant’s (n=17) experiences with learning and practising kiltmaking. Findings indicated that: (1) kiltmakers’ experience life-long learning through scaffolding, (2) kilt customers are not well informed of quality differences between genuine Scottish kilts and imports, (3) gender plays a role in pay inequality, lack of respect and quality of life issues for female kiltmakers and (4) kiltmakers agree that protection is necessary, however, they are unsure of how it would be realized.

The main objective of this research was to analyze poverty from the experiences of two families from the Emiliano Zapata Sur II neighborhood of Mérida Yucatán, in order to contribute to the work of Social Work from a humanistic perspective. The analysis maintained a qualitative approach that was placed within an interpretive paradigm and was supported by a phenomenological method. Semi-structured interviews and participant observation were used to obtain the primary data for two years. Among the main results are that the heads of the family are those who alleviate poverty through their income and leadership. Likewise, there is a stigma on the colony that classifies it as “poor” that influences its condition. Similarly, despite the fact that the family is a system, each member experiences poverty in a particular way, requiring more or less resources and satisfiers. It is recommended for future research to take into consideration the “way of thinking and living” of the family and of each member, one of the greatest challenges that Social Work faces from all its fields of diagnosis and intervention, given the high population and the limitation of their resources as a professional inside and outside the institutions.

ABSTRACTTo ask about a country's family policy is to ask how state action, government policies, are actually affecting families and the quality of family life – not just poor families, but all families in that country. French family policy is considered under three headings: (1) the political significance of the family in France, (2) the social security services designed to increase the economic viability of the family and to promote family welfare, and (3) the adjustment of French family policy to the changing economic situation and aspirations of ordinary families. Comparisons are drawn with British policies under each heading and the conclusion drawn that compared with Britain France has a more conscious, clearly defined concept of family policy, which finds expression firstly in statutory and voluntary institutions whose primary or even sole purpose is to promote the welfare of the family, and secondly, in a whole range of statutory benefits to which the parents of the nuclear family are entitled as of right.

The study was conducted with a qualitative approach to see how the Family Hope Program (PKH) played a role in decreasing Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) in Jambi and South Kalimantan Provinces. Data were obtained from interviews with PKH management officials, PKH assistants and PKH recipients who were pregnant. It was found that there was no direct connection between PKH and the decline in MMR, because there was no detailed provision regarding the percentage of cash received from PKH that had to be spent to improve the nutritional quality of PKH recipients, thus influencing the quality of maternal health and reducing MMR. In addition, not all pregnant women check themselves at a minimum of 4 times during pregnancy. The two provinces do not hold special programs for pregnant women receiving PKH. Nevertheless, there were several efforts to improve the quality of health and nutrition of pregnant women from the Ministry of Health, namely through the provision of blood tablets and biscuits, as well as the implementation of the Class for Pregnant Women. To increase the effectiveness of PKH in reducing MMR, it is necessary to periodically provide assistance and monitoring to PKH recipients who were pregnant.

The article reveals experiences of parents experienced after receiving the first information on child’s disability. Data collection of qualitative phenomenological research was performed using the interview in which 12 families took part. Content analysis was applied to the data analysis. Experiences of parents reveal that professionally presented information helps a family to put up with the child’s disability providing hope for the future of the child and has the influence on family’s purposefulness, on the other hand, the information provided without using the principles of medical ethics, insensitively and unintelligibly to parents causes negative experiences. Unawareness of the true situation, lack of information on assistance resources do not create conditions for parents to become equivalent partners of specialists when providing assistance to the child. The data analysis of qualitative research reveals the need of families rearing children with disabilities for psychosocial assistance which is recognized by the informants as cooperation with specialists, families having similar experience and individual psychological support. Family counseling, the communication and cooperation of the family with various specialists and other families having similar experience is a prerequisite guaranteeing a better quality of life for children with disability and their parents.

The age of 0-6 years is the most critical period in determining the quality of life in the future. By participating in the activities of Bina Keluarga Balita (BKB), families are expected to be  able to provide the best care for the growth and development of the children. The purpose of this analysis is to determine: 1) The differences between  families member of BKB and families are not member BKB on their participation in growth and development of children age 0- 6 years.  2) Factors that affect the family's participation in growth and development of children age 0- 6 years.  This analysis used secondary data from Performance Indicator Survey of The National Medium Term Development Plan in Population and Family Planning Proram Year 2015. The survey was conducted in 34 provinces throughout Indonesia. Respondents used are families with children age  0-6 years, with the total number of respondents 16 172 families. The results showed that the family’s participation in the growth and development of children age  0-6 years is better in the family members of BKB than families who do not participate in BKB from all aspects (physical, mental and social). The results of logistic regression analysis showed that the level of family welfare, maternal age, maternal education, maternal work status, family who have children aged 0-6 years, and family participation in BKB group has significant effect on family participation in growth and development of children age 0- 6 years

Population problems are closely related to the economic and social conditions of the people due to the lower level of education and economy so that the awareness to follow the family planning program is low and lacks access to the available facilities and information. The independence of the family's economic is very important, considering that poverty not only affects the economic problems but also impacts on other issues such as life attitudes, family education, health and others which greatly influence the improvement of the quality of the human resources in Indonesia. In implementing the policy, synergicity of various elements of government institutions, communities, business institutions, such as working training centers, financial institutions, business and educational institutions and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), as well as mass media is strongly needed. With the paradigm of mutualistic symbiosis, the business continuity will be more secure and be able to support and promote each other for the same sake of developing and improving the condition through IIFW. In the era of regional autonomy in Indonesia, all existing local potential can be explored thoroughly to establish the synergicity so that the improvement of the economy in the region, especially, in the areas of the poor can be reached.

Purpose:This study explored the meaning of quality of life (QOL) for Sardinian caregivers of people affected with Alzheimer’s disease and factors improving and worsening their QOL. Design: The phenomenological method was used to study 41 Alzheimer’s disease caregivers living on the western coast of Sardinia, Italy. Interviews were conducted and analyzed using Cohen, Kahn, and Steeves’s approach. Findings: Extracted themes were the following: unity and cooperation in the family; freedom/independence; having time for themselves; serenity/tranquility; and well-being and health. Caregivers identified factors that they believed worsened or improved their QOL. Family was particularly important for these caregivers. Discussion and Practice Implications: This study reinforces previous research about cultural influence on QOL and emphasizes the importance of nurses being culturally sensitive. Since Sardinia is a rural region, these findings may be useful for nurses working with caregivers in other rural settings.
