A separate direction of the scientific studies – geography of tourism was formed in geographical science. A systematic study of geographical science recreation and tourism is the first half of the twentieth century. During this time a significant number of original conceptual and theoretical and methodological approaches and areas of study of the geographical aspects of leisure person were drafted. Now the spectrum of studies on the tourism geography covers all manifestations and processes of deployment of hundreds of varieties of leisure and social activity in space. For example, the studios of tourism geography have recently gained ground. Such directions of the world geography as the “wine tourism geography”, “geography of SPA-tourism” and so on, that are exotic for the geographers of Ukraine, gain the further specification with appearing dozens of new articles and a number of individual books. Ukrainian school presented a rather limited number of scientists and publications among the national European schools of the tourism geography. Main bunch of scientists, who develop provisions of the tourism geography, is concentrated in Kyiv. Scientists, representing regional geographic centres of science and education, make a great contribution to the formation of Ukrainian national school of the tourism geography. Considerable (but, unfortunately, mentioned and quoted outside Ukraine) achievements in the field of the tourism geography today were made by scientists from Lviv, Uzhgorod, Chernivtsi, Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopil, Nizhyn, Dnipropetrovsk and Odesa. The article is devoted to the problem of technical and technological development, which in the modern globalized world is subject to the laws of cyclicity. The realities of today are evidence that in every country of the world coexist and interact elements of different levels of technological structures, which requires a balanced policy to manage their development. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to identify the main theoretical and methodological approaches to the periodization of technical and technological development of the world economy and the formation of generalized criteria for structuring periods of its cyclical dynamics. In the course of the research the tasks were solved, which consisted in the selection of those theoretical and methodological approaches that most fully cover the causal links between changes in technology and technology, on the one hand, and development – on the other; identifying in each approach the criteria of periodization and determining the possibilities of these approaches to describe the current situation. The methodological basis was such general scientific research methods as dialectics, analysis and synthesis, the unity of historical and logical, as well as methods of generalizations, comparisons and classifications. The result of their application was to clarify the essence and establish the specifics of the conceptual approaches of M. Kondratiev, С. Perez and S. Glazyev, which today are considered to be leading in explaining technical and technological development. Based on the comparison of these theoretical and methodological approaches, a generalized idea of the criteria for periodization of the latter is formed. The general conclusion of the study is the formation of scientific ideas about the stages through which society passes in its technical and technological development. This allows you to properly assess the current state of a particular economic system and choose more effective instruments of economic policy to guide its development through progress.

The subject of analysis in the article is the process of formation of the theory of economic modernization. The goal is to find out the main regularities of formation and its practical use. Methods of analysis include historical-logical analysis and synthesis. The results of the work are reflected in the following conclusions: modernization theory at its current state is not complete. No definition that would fully reveal the contents of the category has been coined yet, and the main branches of economic science do not pay proper attention to modernization as an independent subject of study. Certain aspects of the modernization of the economy, as subsidiary conclusions, were considered in the studies of economic dynamics, economic growth and cyclicality. The ideas of J. Schumpeter can be important for overcoming this vision of modernization. Synthesis of the main approaches to the theoretical and practical thinking on modernization allows one to distinguish the broad and narrow meanings. If the first of these meanings refers to the development and transformation of the entire social order, the other is the development of one of the spheres of social activity. Among the application areas of contemporary modernization of the Russian economy, the market-liberal model and the new (second) industrialization of the country can be pointed out. But both can be implemented only as an organic unity. The results of the study can be used in teaching of macroeconomics , in determining the strategy for the development of the economy as a whole and at the regional level.
