The delivery of the placenta makes the steroid and oxytocin hormone in the mother's body unbalanced then increases the cortisol hormone which influences the recovery and breastfeeding process. Prevalences of anxiety in the postpartum period reach to 15-40% in some countries. This was qualitative research which was explained the effect of the combination of back massage and self-talk therapies on anxiety and breastfeeding self-efficacy which these therapies are psychology therapy and physically combined. The result showed that the combination of back massage and self-talk reduced their anxiety and increased their belief to breastfeed rather than given back massage only in the control group because back massage therapy recovers their bodies and self-talk using cards as a media therapy recovers their psychology given their mind power to enjoy their postpartum period. This combination therapy effective to decrease anxiety and to increase breastfeeding self-efficacy.

This study was designed to determine if observing a similar or dissimilar model who makes varying self-efficacy statements influences an observer's efficacy expectations and, in turn, muscular endurance performance. Females (N = 150) were randomly assigned to groups in a 2 × 4 × 3 (model similarity by model talk by trials) factorial design or to a no-model control group. Model similarity was manipulated by having subjects view a female described as a nonathlete (similar) or a male described as a varsity track athlete (dissimilar). The four levels of model talk included: a positive self-talk model who performed and made positive self-efficacy statements, a negative self-talk model who made negative self-efficacy statements, an irrelevant-talk model who made statements unrelated to self-efficacy, and a no-talk model who remained silent throughout the performance. Self-efficacy measures were assessed in addition to performance on three trials of a muscular endurance task. Results revealed that similar model subjects extended their legs significantly longer than dissimilar model and control subjects. Moreover, the similar-positive-talk and similar-no-talk groups performed significantly better than the dissimilar-positive-talk, dissimilar-negative talk, dissimilar-no-talk, and the no-model control groups. Subject self-efficacy, however, was not found to be the major mediating variable affecting these performance changes.

ABSTRACT This study investigated the prevalence and determined forms of intimate partner abuse (IPA) common to undergraduates of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Nigeria. It also investigated the gender differentials (Gender Symmetry and Asymmetry) in the perpetration of IPA among undergraduates and assessed the therapeutic effectiveness of self-talk therapy in reducing anxiety associated with IPA. The study adopted a mixed-method research design incorporating both descriptive survey and pretest-posttest control group experimental research designs. The sample for the descriptive survey was 1,448 undergraduates using the Sample Determination Table (Bartlett, II, Kotrlik & Haggins, 2001), which represents 6.5% of the total of undergraduates in OAU. The sample for the experimental stage of the study consisted of 32 undergraduates victims of IPA induced anxiety. Questionnaire on Prevalence and Types of Intimate Partner Abuse (QPTIPA) was used to collect data for the first stage of the study while the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) was used to determine the levels of anxiety experienced by undergraduate victims of intimate partner abuse. Self-talk therapy was administered on the victims of IPA induced anxiety. The results showed that more females experienced intimate partner abuse of 74.76%, than male victims at 25.24%. The results also showed that “Stalking”, “Exploring partner's vulnerability/disability/status”, “Presenting false information with intent to exploit partner” were the first three in rank of the forms of IPA common among the undergraduates with RSI scores of 0.547, 0.529, and 0.527 respectively. The three least common forms were “beating”, “physically restraining Partner’s movement” and “forcing partner to have sex with someone else” with RSI scores of 0.475, 0.465, and 0.406 respectively. The study further revealed that Self-talk therapy has a significant effect (F (1, 64) = 63.360, p < 0.05) in reducing anxiety induced by IPA.Dr

(1) Background: Self-talk (ST) is used to influence athletes’ thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Samples of squad and competitive athletes are underrepresented, although research has proven the positive effects of ST in the context of sports. Thus, the present study focused on the impact of ST on psychological and performance outcomes of junior sub-elite athletes. (2) Methods: N = 117 athletes (55 females, 62 males; M = 16.0 years) were randomly assigned to either one of two experimental groups or to a control group (n = 30). The experimental groups received an ST intervention for either one week (n = 36) or eight weeks (n = 38), and the control group received no ST training. The dependent variables (competitive anxiety, volitional skills, self-efficacy, and coaches’ performance ratings) were assessed three times before and after the intervention. It was expected that (a) an ST intervention would reduce the competitive anxiety and increase volitional skills, self-efficacy, and performance; and, (b) long-term training would lead to higher effects than short-term training. (3) Results: As expected, ST training led to (less) somatic state anxiety and (higher) state self-confidence, self-optimization, self-efficacy, and performance. Additionally, long-term training was more effective than short-term training. (4) Conclusions: Targeted ST interventions may help to improve junior athletes’ psychological states and performance.

The purpose of the current study was to examine the effects of motivational self-talk on self-efficacy and performance. Participants were 46 young tennis players (mean age 13.26, SD 1.96 years). The experiment was completed in five sessions. In the first session, participants performed a forehand drive task. Subsequently, they were divided into an experimental and a control group. Both groups followed the same training protocol for three sessions, with the experimental group practicing self-talk. In the final session, participants repeated the forehand drive task, with participants in the experimental group using motivational self-talk. Mixed model ANOVAs revealed significant group by time interactions for self-efficacy (p < .05) and performance (p < .01). Follow-up comparisons showed that self-efficacy and performance of the experimental group increased significantly (p < .01), whereas self-efficacy and performance of the control group had no significant changes. Furthermore, correlation analysis showed that increases in self-efficacy were positively related to increases in performance (p < .05). The results of the study suggest that increases in self-efficacy may be a viable mechanism explaining the facilitating effects of self-talk on performance.

Background: Dysmenorrhea is pain during menstruation in lower abdomen, and is not due to other diseases. Effleurage massage and consuming green coconut water are considered able to reduce menstrual pain. However, little is known about the effect of the combination between the two interventions. Objective: To compare the effectiveness of effleurage massage and in combination with green coconut water on pain, anxiety, and ß-endorphin level in teenage girls with menstrual pain (dysmenorrhea).Design: A quasy experiment with pretest-posttest approach design with control group. There were 36 samples recruited in this study by purposive sampling, which were divided into a massage therapy group, the combination therapy group, and a control group. Menstrual pain was measured using Numeric Rating Scale, while anxiety was measured using Zung Self rating Anxiety Scale (ZSAS), and endorphin level using ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay). One way anova test and repeated anova were performed as a bivariate analysis. Mancova and post hoc anova were used for multivariate analysis.Result: The combination of massage and green coconut water was more effective in reducing pain (p 0.013) and anxiety levels (p 0.000), and in increasing β-endorphin  (p 0.029) with significant value of <0.05 compared to the massage therapy alone. Conclusion: The combination of effleurage massage and green coconut water had significant effect in decreasing anxiety and pain levels, and increasing β-endorphin levels in teenage girls with painful periods (dysmenorrhea); and more effective than performing effleurage massage only. It is suggested that this combination therapy could be used as an alternative therapy for women with dysmenrrohea.

Disease that is often complained by the public today one of the pain in the bone, which is better known by the community with rheumatism. Rheumatism or rheumatoid arthritis is a systemic, progressive, chronic and tendonic inflammatory disease of joints and connective tissue symmetrically. One way of management of rheumatoid arthritis pain is back massage therapy. Back Massage is one of the techniques to give massage action on the back with lotions/balm for 10-15 minutes, the warm sensation leads to vasodilation of blood vessels that will improve blood circulation in the area so that the activity of the cell is increased and will reduce pain, increase comfort, reduce muscle tension and improve physical and psychological relaxation. This study aims to determine the effect of Back massage therapy to decrease the pain level of rheumatoid arthritis patients in Rajadesa Village Rajadesa Sub District Ciamis District in 2018. Type of research using Quasi Experiment Design with one group pretest-posttest design. Total sample 48 respondents with total sampling technique. Data collection using experimental method with VDS (Verbal Descriptor Scale) pain rate measurement tool. The result of statistical test by using Linear Regression shows Sig = 0,000 <0,05, t value = 18,935> 2,012. Then Ha is accepted, and the average value before therapy is 3.27 with a standard deviation of 0.818, whereas after therapy is 2.23 with a standard deviation of 0.881, meaning there is the effect of back massage therapy on the decrease of pain level in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. So to reduce pain in patients with rheumatoid arthritis can be given back massage therapy.
