The improvement of high-quality grain production remains the most important task for the entire agricultural sector of Russia, including the Far Eastern region. Productivity and grain quality improvement can be achieved by various technical and organizational methods and the correct selection of varieties that are most adapted to environmental conditions. The purpose of the study is to develop a new spring soft wheat variety with high indicators of productivity and grain quality, resistant to unfavorable biotic and abiotic environmental factors and adapted to the conditions of the Far Eastern region. The paper gives the information on the methods of development, the initial parental components, the traits and properties of the new spring wheat variety ‘Anfeya’, submitted to the State Variety Testing and intended for cultivation in the Far Eastern region. This is a variety of a new generation which successfully combines such traits as high productivity, grain quality, coarse grain, immunity to the main common diseases in this ecological zone and resistance to abiotic environmental stressors. The average productivity of the variety ‘Anfeya’ was 3.9 t/ha over the years of competitive testing (2016–2018) with its maximum 5.5 t/ha. The increase to the standard variety ‘Khabarovchanka’ was 1.0 and 2.1 t/ha, respectively. High productivity of the new variety has been provided by an increased grain size. The genetic potential of the promising spring soft wheat variety contributes to the formation of a large protein percentage. According to nutritional value, rheological properties of the dough, technological and baking indicators of grain quality, the new variety ‘Anfeya’ belongs to strong wheats.

The aim of our research is to create and introduce new drought-resistant varieties of winter soft wheat adapted to the conditions of the Central region of Russia. New varieties should have a high and stable yield, resistance to lodging, adverse environmental factors and the defeat of the most harmful diseases, but at the same time, having high indicators of grain quality. This article presents the morphological and economic and biological characteristics of a new medium-ripe variety of winter soft wheat Felicia, introduced in 2019. in the State register of breeding achievements of the Russian Federation in the Central region. The variety of winter soft wheat Felicia was created in ISA-branch of FGBNU FNAC VIM by intraspecific complex-step hybridization followed by individual selection from the hybrid population F [(Don region x Inna) x Memory Fedina) x Memory Fedina]. Authors of the variety are Anokhin N.P., Barkovskaya T.A., Gladysheva O.V., Ushakova E.Yu. Variety is erythrospermum. The ear is white, spinous, pyramidal, mean density. The grain is red, semi-elongated form with a pronounced pappus. Beak of opening chords have a medium length, slightly curved, shoulder rounded, medium width. The height of the plants is 75-85 cm. High adaptability to local climatic conditions of the new variety is manifested primarily in yield stable by years, the maximum reached 9.79 t / ha in 2017. On average, over the last 5 years of study (2015-2019) it amounted to 7.5 t / ha exceeding the standard Angelina variety by 0.62 t / ha. The new variety has a high productivity (more than 9.5 t / ha). It was found that the high yield of Felicia is associated with increased water content of the ear and the weight of 1000 grains. In terms of grain quality, the new variety is not inferior to the standard grade Аngelina, which is included in the list of valuable wheat of Russia. The new variety of winter soft wheat “Felicia” meets the requirements of modern production. It is drought resistant, has good baking capabilities and is adapted to the Russia Central region’s conditions. The Felicia variety is recommended to be cultivated on dark gray forest, soddy podzolic soils, chernozems in accordance with the generally accepted varietal technology of winter crops. Sowing dates are optimal for the agricultural zone. The seeding rate is 5.0 million pcs / ha.

In the last decade, Ural and Siberian breeders have created a series of valuable and strong varieties of spring soft wheat, which have mainly successfully passed the State Variety Testing and are included in the Register of breeding achievements in 10 regions. These include the Irene variety, which is sown not only in Western Siberia, but also in Eastern Siberia and other regions of the country. It is well adapted to the conditions of the Tyumen region. The variety has been grown here for 13 years, but the variety technology has not yet been fully developed. It is cultivated according to generally accepted technology. Taking into account the current situation with the variety, we are conducting research on the development of elements of varietal technology. The article analyzes the results of the impact of mineral nutrition levels on the yield and quality of grain of spring soft wheat variety Irene in KRiMM Uporvo district of Tyumen region. Over the years of research (2016–2018), it was established that the leached black soil in the control version without mineral fertilizers yielded 2.57 t/ha of early maturing Irene variety. The variety reacts positively to the application of mineral fertilizers up to the yield level of 5 t/ha. At the same time, the yield is combined with the quality of grain. Profitability of application of mineral fertilizers for the yield of 4 and 5 tons per hectare was 130.7 and 139.5 %, respectively. In the control version it was 61.3 %. Irene variety is well adapted to the conditions of the Tyumen region, it is necessary to continue the study of other elements of the variety.

The article presents an analysis of genotypic correlations between the yield of 33 variety samples of spring soft wheat and elements of its structure in the conditions of Penza region, the degree of variability of agronomic valuable traits during the years of research (2018-2020) has been determined. It has been established, that the low-varying agronomic valuable traits (CV = 7.8-9.9 %) include the wheat ear length, number of spikelets in the ear, weight of 1000 grains; moderately varying traits (СV = 13.8-15.6 %) include productive bushiness capacity, the number of grains in the ear and weight of grains in one ear; highly-varying traits (СV = 21.7-22.7 %) include the number of grains per ear and weight of the grain per ear. A strong positive interrelation has been established between the yield of spring soft wheat and the number of grains per ear (r = 0.706...0.816) and weight of grain per ear (r = 0.754...0.875). There has been revealed an average positive interrelation between the yield and the weight of ears (r = 0.467...0.621), the number of spikelets per ear (r = 0.358...0.582), the number of grains per plant (r = 0.446...0.541) and the weight of grain per plant (r = 0.309...0.608). The correlation dependence of yield on productive bushiness (r = 0.091…0.415), ear length (r = 0.074…0.503) and weight of 1000 grains (r = 0.193…0.583) turned out to be unstable. Thus, the formation of grain yield was influenced by the number of grains per ear and the weight of grain per ear. The analysis showed the degree of influence of various elements of productivity on the formation of yield of spring soft wheat variety samples that provides a more targeted selection in the breeding process.

Owing to the climate warming and, as a consequence, the deterioration of the phytopathological situation, associated with the emergence of aggressive races of fungal diseases, as well as the cultivation of susceptible varieties on the main wheat sowing area in Western Siberia, it is important to expand the genotypic diversity of wheat varieties and search for new sources of long-term sustainability. The evaluation results of spring soft wheat varieties of KASIB nursery shuttle breeding set up jointly by scientific institutions of Western Siberia, Kazakhstan and the International Center for the Improvement of Corn and Wheat CIMMYT are presented in the conditions of the southern forest-steppe of Western Siberia. The research was carried out in 2011-2016, using field and laboratory methods. The results of the assessment of the susceptibility of KASIB nursery varieties to brown and stem rust have shown that varieties with high resistance prevail among resistant varieties in all phases of plant development, which indicates targeted selection for immunity with genes of race-specific and age resistance. The use of cluster analysis made it possible to reveal significant differences in productivity and resistance to rust diseases of KASIB varieties. We distinguished wheat varieties from KASIB nursery-garden 14, 15 - Lutestsens 141/03-2 and Sigma (Siberian scientific research Institute of Agriculture), from KASIB nursery-garden 16, 17 - Erythrospermum 85-08 (Omsk SAU), Lutestsens 6/04-4 and Lutestsens 186/04- 61 (Siberian scientific research Institute of Agriculture), resistant to brown and stem rust, exceeding in terms of yield standards, which are recommended to be used as a starting material for wheat breeding in Western Siberia.

Currently, there is a tendency of deterioration in the quality of wheat grain, which entails a natural decrease in the baking properties of flour. In this regard, the technological and baking properties of 7 cultivars of spring soft wheat, bred in the Far Eastern Agricultural Research Institute, were studied. These cultivars were: Khabarovchanka, Zaryanka, Lira-98, Elizaveta, Priamurskaya, Anfeya, Dalira. The assessment of bread and grain quality was conducted according to the standard methodology in 2006–2019. Spring soft wheat cultivars Priamurskaya, Anfeya, Dalira on average differed in the maximum formation of grain yield over the years of study (3.4, 3.8, 3.8 tons per ha respectively). The grain nature of the Dalira cultivar was 756 g/l, which corresponds to the I class of soft wheat grain. All studied samples of spring soft wheat had a fairly high content of protein (more than 14 %), and gluten (more than 28 %) of the second quality group (satisfactory weak) in grain. The flour strength indicator significantly changed depending on the hydrothermal conditions of the growing season (V = 6–37 %), and on average, over the years of research, the maximum value of this trait (more than 280 e.a.) was found in cultivars Lira-98, Elizaveta, Priamurskaya, Dalira. In favourable years, the volume of bread from the Zaryanka, Lira-98, Elizaveta, Anfeya was more than 1,000 ml. According to the test bread baking, wheat cultivars with a high baking score (above 4 points) were highlighted: Zaryanka, Lira-98, Elizaveta, Priamurskaya, Anfeya, Dalira. Therefore, the studied cultivars of spring soft wheat are promising for use in the baking industry.
