The article investigates the peculiarities of the linguistic representation of monster image in modern Ukrainian children’s literature. The literary discourse of fear and monster image is presented. From the communicative-pragmatic point of view, the traditional, usual images of monster, in particular Babay and Chupacabra, are compared with their counterparts from the works of such popular Ukrainian writers. New images of the monster, the appearance of which was caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, are characterized. The purpose of the article is to investigate the peculiarities of the linguistic representation of the image of monster in modern Ukrainian children’s literature. The following research methods were used: linguistic observation and description of language phenomena; method of decoding an artistic text, analysis, synthesis, induction, deduction, as well as the method of continuous sampling. It is established that in the works for children of modern Ukrainian authors the image of a fearless, good monster is gaining popularity, which testifies to the tendency to improve traditional negative images. To create «updated» images of monsters, writers use a range of language tools and stylistic devices. The individual author’s onyms for monster and occasional sign tokens are particularly expressive, which appear during the creation of these images. It is observed that the image of monster in children’s works implements a number of pragmatic functions: cognitive (acquisition and assimilation of knowledge about the world (about the world of things; about the world of human relations); developmental (enrichment of the child’s vocabulary, formation of reading skills, development of imagination, critical / creative thinking, cognitive interest, etc.); educational (formation of basic moral principles, learning patterns of behavior, etc.); entertainment (enjoyment of artistic communication). The study of the usual and occasional in the linguistic representation of fear and monster in the works for children of modern Ukrainian writers complemented the knowledge about the connection of the writer’s worldview with the works’ language and with the national linguistic picture of the world.

Purpose: This study was conducted in the framework of the anthropocentric direction with elements of the cognitive approach. Based on the concept of Yuriy M. Lotman, who asserts that a literary text is a model of reality, it verbally represents real components that structure the real world and ideal components. The purpose of this article is to identify the characteristics of the representation of the linguistic image of the concept “night” in the poetry of Afanasy A. Feta as a fragment of the Russian language picture of the world. Methodology: For this purpose, the extralinguistic conditions of the formation of the discursive space of Afanasy A. Fet's poetic texts are analyzed. The theoretical literature on the picture of the world and the poetic text are studied. The peculiarities of the linguistic concept image as a complex and multidimensional education are revealed. The paper also reveals the method of continuous sampling on the material of collections of poems by Afanasy A. Fet compiled a card index of poems about the night (187 poetic texts). Result: The rating of the frequency of language units is determined: night, moon, star, dawn; the ways of representing the linguistic image-concept “night” through the prism of the author purely individual consciousness have been revealed. The peculiarities of the verbalization of the linguistic image of the concept “night” in the composition of graphic-expressive means are determined. The study made it possible to conclude the picture of the world of the poet Afanasy A. Fet is a unique version of the individual picture of the world that has enriched the “concept-sphere” of the Russian language. The individual picture of the world of the lyrics is presented in his poetic texts, the complexity of the study of which lies in the fact that they are pointed out such features as emotionality, fragmentation, phatic imagery. Applications: This research can be used for universities, teachers, and students. Novelty/Originality: In this research, the model of Peculiarities of a Verbal Representation of a Conceptual Language Image “Night” in the Poetic Texts of Afanasy Afanasyevich Fet is presented in a comprehensive and complete manner.

В статье на материале произведений С. А. Бритаева, осетинского писателя, сказоч- ника, переводчика, публициста, исследуются основные тенденции развития осетинской детской литературы середины XX в. как подсистемы осетинской художественной словес- ности в целом. Дан комплексный анализ авторских сказок писателя, специфика, «особая художественность» которых заключается в их синтетической природе; через призму ди- алога индивидуально-авторского начала и традиционных сказочных жанрообразующих элементов в различных аспектах (жанровый синтез, система образов, стилистические особенности, авторская позиция) раскрывается художественный мир писателя. С опо- рой на архивные источники впервые введены в научный оборот произведения малой прозы автора, в том числе ряд неопубликованных рассказов. На основе исследования своеобразия творчества автора прослежены основные тенденции и характерные черты развития осе- тинской детской литературы указанного периода, как то: синтез фольклорных средств с собственно литературными (описания, детализация действия, психологизм, пластич- ность изображения), тенденция к переходу от фольклорных типов-обобщений к созданию индивидуализированных характеров; от народно-сказовой формы повествования и тра- диционных способов передачи коллективной точки зрения на мир к усилению творческого самовыражения, своеобразию проявления авторской позиции. The article studies the main courses of evolution of Ossetic children’s literature of the middle of the XX th century as a subsystem of the Ossetic artistic literature in general, namely in the books of S. A. Britaev, the Ossetic writer, storyteller, translator, and publicist. Complex analysis of the author’s fairy tales is given, specifics, «especial artistry» of which lies in their synthetic nature; through the prism of the dialogue of the individual author’s standpoint and the traditional fairy genre-forming elements in various aspects (genre synthesis system of images, stylistic features, and the author’s viewpoint) reveals the artistic world of S. Britaev. The author’s short prose works, including a number of unpublished stories, have been introduced into scientific discourse for the first time on the basis of the archival sources. The main tendencies and characteristic features of the development of this period’s Ossetic children’s literature are traced in researching the originality of the author’s works, such as the synthesis of folklore means with literary ones proper (descriptions, action detailing, psychologism, image plasticity), tendency to change from folklore types-generalizations to creation of individualized characters; from the folk-fantastic forms of narration and traditional ways of transferring the collective point of view of the world to the strengthening of creative self-expression, the originality of the author’s positions.

Abstarct: The article is devoted to the analysis of the concept of "justice" in the novel “Arhat” by K. Akmatov which was later translated into English by Elizabeth Adams. The verbal representation of this concept is presented in terms of nucleus and periphery level. A comparison of these means makes it possible to identify similarities and differences in the consciousness of the collective and the individual. The examples for the analysis were selected from both original and translated texts. Along with study of the language picture of the world , the concept “justice” will be studied from linguacultural point of view and lexical semantic field will be revealed . Примеры для анализа были выбраны из исходного и переведенного текстов. Наряду с изучением языковой картины мира, концепт "справедливость" будет рассмотрен в рамках лингвокультурного аспекта и будет выявлено его лексико-семантическое поле. This chapter explores the development of the children’s novel throughout the twentieth century. This period represents a change from the protection of childhood to the commodification of childhood, and from essentially gentleman-amateur publishing to highly professional production and marketing. But for all its successes, the idea that the children’s novel is necessary inferior to its adult counterpart dies hard. This is the more illogical because novels for children do not have exact counterparts in the adult literary ‘system’. From an adult point of view, all children’s literature is necessarily ‘popular’ or ‘lowbrow’, or at its ‘best’ merely ‘middlebrow’. Equally, the term ‘literature’ is not useful or relevant in the criticism of children’s novels, and the most valued texts in children’s literature may be precisely those that have the least to offer the adult.

The article is devoted to the problem of formation of creative abilities and cognitive interests of students. The main directions of development of the creative person according to the social needs of the present are considered. It is noted that creative activity becomes a form of knowledge of the material-objective world; identifies personality possibilities, new ways of one’s personal development. Therefore, the problem of developing the creative abilities of students in the course of educational and cognitive activity is of an exceptional relevance. The author believes that influencing the organization of creative activity is possible only under certain conditions, in particular: to conduct classes in an atmosphere of mutual understanding and co-creation, perceiving each student as a person; to give preference to the dialogical form of conducting classes, when students have an opportunity: to think independently, to make suggestions, to defend their own point of view, presenting their own arguments; it is advisable to create situations of choice at classes and to enable students to carry it out. The author notes that the observance of certain organizational and methodological conditions can significantly contribute to the development of creative potential of students, namely: the creative vision of the world through the systematic organization of work with students; development of creative values through the proper level of teacher's teaching skills; deepening the perception of the world picture through the integration of various types of students’ creativity, works of art and their figurative reproduction in their own creative activity; individual peculiarities of perception and emotional attitude through the use of the educational potential of the family, organization of creative activity. When performing creative tasks the individual characteristics of students to select the material of the appropriate level of complexity must be taken into account. The article examines the examples of students' creativity during the European Cultures Festival, debates and clubs on the basis of the Kryvyi Rih National University.

Although the quantity of children's literature about Africa has been increasing rapidly in recent years--probably more has been published since 1960 than in the preceding three decades--the total volume is small and mediocre. Children's literature in this discussion refers to books written especially for children up to twelve or thirteen years of age. Somewhat over half the books which have been written for this age group are geographies, animal stories, and factual compendia with titles like First Book of Liberia, Getting to Know Tanganyika, Land and People of South Africa, and so on. Young persons are likely to use such books in connection with school assignments or purely for pleasure (in the case of animal stories), but they will gain little understanding of African peoples and cultures from them. The smaller segment of children's books about Africa is comprised of storybooks and factual presentations of African history and contemporary African life. Some of these books are sufficiently attractive to catch the attention of library users and of children whose parents are affluent enough to buy books for them. But do these books help create an understanding of the peoples and cultures of Africa? This question is especially pertinent since school curricula still devote relatively little attention to Africa, despite its increased importance on the world scene, and television, radio, movies, and other mass media to which children have access often do little or nothing to promote an understanding of Africa and its people.

Based on an empirical study involving novice translators, this article discusses the advantages of hermeneutic approach to translation teaching (Stolze 2011) as seen from translation students’ point of view. Fifteen translation students participated in a pre-experimental procedure during which they were asked to translate a few texts of children’s literature from English into Polish. The aim of the procedure was to check and verify the influence of the hermeneutic approach on novice translators’ translation competence acquisition. Afterwards, the participants were given a special questionnaire and were asked to fill it in. The questions that they were asked to answer were concerned with their opinions relating to the hermeneutic approach to translation teaching. In the paper, opinions concerning the advantages of the approach are presented and discussed.

This chapter presents a discussion of international intellectual trends in the social sciences, theoretical and empirical studies in India, the question of independence of mind or home rule in intellectual institutions. Following the swarajist project outlined earlier of viewing Europe and its systems of knowledge and practices from an independent Indian point of view, this chapter is in effect a research outline for a new structural sociology in India. We are introduced to structuralism as it exists in the world, its scope and definition and as a methodology for the social sciences. This is followed by the approach to structuralism as scientific theory, method and as philosophical world view.
