Establishment of the National Higher Teacher Training College (WSP) and an attempt to merge it with the Jagiellonian University in 1956 After the Second World War, the Jagiellonian University lost its autonomy and the state authorities destroyed its structures by separating the departments and creating new universities out of them. Independently, in 1946, the National Higher Teacher Training College in Krakow was established. In 1954, it received the right to run a master’s course. The quality of education in WSP was assessed negatively by the Jagiellonian University. In turn, the WSP authoritiesclaimed that their school provided better training for future teachers. At the beginning of the 1950s, some reservations were voiced as to the grounds for the existence of higher teacher training schools due to overlaps with the university curriculum. In 1956, the state authorities decided to close some of these colleges. WSP was to be merged with the Jagiellonian University. A meeting was organized at the Jagiellonian University in April 1956, where representatives of the Ministry of Higher Education, the Jagiellonian University and WSP discussed the merger. However, the meeting didn’t yield the expected results due to the firm objection on the part of WSP. The opportunity to strengthen the Jagiellonian University’s position by merging with WSP was ultimately lost.

In this paper the behaviors and tendencies in the use of digital technologies by university students are analyzed. After a short discussion of former studies and the presentation of the model for digital literacy structure and assessment in students attending compulsory school, the investigation carried out by the authors is described and the results obtained from the analysis of the university students’ answers is reported. The survey was submitted to 331 students in the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Cassino, Italy, and the students’ answers show a contradictory reality: on one side, digital technologies are mainly used to communicate in social networks or to play music and movies, on another side it is evident the students’ interest for the most recent aspects of the application of digital technology and for the improvement in the quality of their use.

ABSTRACT In the last few years, a discussion about university students´ employability has been generated by deep changes in the job market. The objective of this investigation has been to analyze employability with reference to sex, degree and employment situation, and to analyze its relation to the achievement perception. 297 students have participated in different levels of the Education Department of the University of Murcia. The tools that have been applied seek to explore the subjective self-perception on the employability performance, measuring skills and abilities expressed by the participants, and the perception (belief) of personal and professional conditions required by employers with reference to a potential job hiring. University students not only perceive that certain personal characteristics are necessary, but they also consider the requirements of their social and labor context. Also tested the existence of a statistically significant relation among employability perception and achievement expectations. The results have highly important practical implications aiming to improve the university students´ employability. Priority should focus to address the incorporation of vocational guidance in university plans of studies.

Mindfulness has received significant attention in the empirical literature during the past decade, but few studies have focused on mindfulness in university students and how it may influence problematic behaviours. This study examined the relationships among mindfulness, coping, and physiological reactivity in a sample of university students. Participants completed questionnaires, and skin conductance measurements were collected during an interview where they recalled a personally stressful event. Correlation analyses tested relationships among these variables. There was a negative correlation between substance use and mindfulness. Specifically, those using substances as a coping mechanism were less likely to be mindful and displayed higher physiological reactivity. More mindful individuals were less likely to report misusing substances and were able to calm themselves more quickly than their counterparts following a stressful event. Thus, poor outcomes for distressed students may be reduced with mindfulness-based interventions.

Abstract The university education in Romania is facing various challenges, from the pressure to reach a balance between teaching activities, research and services for the society, to little funds and a decrease of the interest of teachers with doctoral degrees in the teaching career. The quality of the learning the students receive is dependent on the quality of the teachers the university system employs. The right human resources for the right jobs means, in the long run, not only saving money, but also investing in the future of the Romanian society. The teachers working in the university system of education need to be not only highly skilled, but also extremely motivated. Our paper focuses on some of the things and changes that could be taken into account in order to retain and recruit the best teachers in whose training a lot of investments have already been made.

Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program is one of the distinguished programs issued by the Ministry of Education and Culture. It is expected that the university students enhance soft and hard skills by joining one of eight suggested programs. Link and match was an initial policy in the 1990s while the MBKM program is improved. The study aims to uncover the industrial interest embedded in MBKM policy by reviewing the concepts and educational design in Indonesia. Library research towards the ideas was reviewed. Reputable journals and books were collected and overviewed while the critical concept of education was carried out as a tool of analysis. The theory of education addressed by Illich (2000), Walker (1981), and Nabhani (2001) was employed to trace the Industrialization of education in MBKM policy. The study shows that the industrial factors in MBKM policy are highlighted and strengthened by giving students the right to take a program and doing a credit transfer at the end of the program. The university and study program curriculum is focused on the need for the business and industrial world.
