This research focuses on the effect of Student Teams Achievement Divisions (STAD) to the Students’ Writing Ability on Recount Text at Grade Ten of SMA HKBP 1  Pematangsiantar’. Problem raised in this research was ‘What is the effect of Student Teams Achievement Divisions or STAD on the students’ writing ability at grade ten of SMA HKBP 1 Pematangsiantar’. To answer the problem above, the researchers use the theories of some experts. They are:  Harmer (2004) ,Knapp  & Watkins ( 2005) , Aljanian (2012), Kagan (2009),  Zemach &  Rumisek (2003). The participants were the grade X of SMA HKBP 1 where there are two classes, one is as a control and the other is as an experimental class. The methodology used in this research was the Qualitative research. The data was collected by doing the observation. After the data been collected the researcher found the significant effect of STAD in improving the students’ writing skill. It can be seen from the data where the main score of pretest to post test in experimental class is 56,23 to 80,95. It has a great change. The result showed that the students at grade X of SMA HKBP 1 Pematangsiantar are able to improve their writing skill especially in recount text by applying STAD strategy in the class.

Writing ability at The Second Semester Students in one of Private High School in Pemtangsiantar indicated low enough. The aim of this research is to find out the effect of three cooperative learning techniques, namely, Jigsaw, Students Teams – Achievement Division (STAD) and Think-Pair-Share (TPS). The research design used in this study was quantitative approach with an experimental. The samples were Second Semester Students of STIKOM Tunas Bangsa Pematangsiantar. The data of this research were gained from the score Narrative Text Test that analyzed by using One Way ANNOVA. The research finding showed that (1) Jigsaw Sig. (2-tailed) value is 0.00 < 0.05. STAD Sig. (2-tailed) value is 0.00 < 0.05.  TPS Sig. (2-tailed) value is 0.00 < 0.05, it means Jigsaw, STAD and TPS can affect the students ability in writing. (2) The increasing percentage of Jigsaw Teaching Technique to 75%, Students Teams – Achievement Division (STAD) to 68% and Think-Pair-Share (TPS) to 57%. (3) The result of data Analysis by One Way Annova indicate that Significant values is 0.043 which is < 0.05, and Fvalue is 3.305 > T Table 3.16, it means there is one Teaching Technique more significant there the other technique. Here Jigsaw Teaching Technique more Significant than STAD or TPS. In Jigsaw Teaching Technique, The mean difference is significant at the 0.05 level.

Research Questions

This paper is aimed to arrange teaching material for writing which will enable students to enhance their writing ability by arranging sentences through language pattern (al-anmat al-lughawiyyah). For this purpose to achieve, it is formulated three research questions as follows: 1) how is the composition of teaching material for writing skill that is based on language pattern for PBA students of UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya, 2) how is that teaching material of writing that is based on language pattern implememented for students of PBA department UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya, 3) to what extent is the effectiveness of the teaching material implementation to enhance the ability of arranging sentences through language pattern among  the students of PBA department UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya.To answer all those questions, this study employes mixed methods:  quantitative through descriptive analysis approach, research and development (R&D), and also the experimental one. Indeed, it aims to examine the effectiveness of students'exercise score based on their pre and post test. Besides, as the population taken is 2nd semester students of PBA department of UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya, it was taken 19 of them to be the samples of this study. At the end, this study shows that the proposed hypothesis is acceptable. It however means that the implementation of teaching material designed to enhance students' writing skill through language pattern is effective for students of PBA department UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya. As counted, the result of pretest was 7.15 and 7.94 for the post test. It  fruitfully means that the teaching material that is developed through language pattern is effective to enhance students'writing ability

Essay is the most essential part in writing critical essay. It is one of the subjects that learned by English students. CIRC is a method to improve students’ writing ability. Cooperative integrated reading composition (CIRC) was implemented on students’ writing skill through quasi experimental research; post-test only group design. Sample of the research was thirty nine students. Writing test was used to collect the data and analyzed by using independent t-test. The finding was students who were taught by cooperative integrated reading composition (CIRC) had better scores of writing critical essay than those who were taught by small group discussion. It meant that CIRC give an effect toward students to improve their writing skill.

This research was intended to analyze the effect of mind mapping towards students writing skill at the second semester students of FPBS IKIP Mataram in academic year 2015/2016. This study was quasi experimental research, where the sample was cluster randomly selected with the total number of sample was 65 students which were divided into 2 classes; 29 students were in the control group and there were 36 students belong to experimental group. In order to collect the research data, the writer used writing test to comprehend the students’ ability in managing text based on mind mapping concept. After the data was obtained, then it was analyzed by applying descriptive statistical analysis and inferential analysis. Regarding to the data analysis it was found that the students’ ability before treatment was 69.72 in the significant level 95%. On post-test data analysis, the students mean writing ability increased into 77.22. The inferential analysis or hypothesis testing also proved that the t-test was higher than t-table in the significant level 95% (α =0.05) and degree of freedom 63 (4.158 > 2.000) with ρ value (sig.) 0.00 < 0.05. It was clearly claimed that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) which stated that mind-mapping was effective towards students writing at second semester students of FPBS IKIP Mataram in academic year 2015/2016 was accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) that said main-mapping is not effective toward students writing at second semester students of FPBS IKIP Mataram in academic year 2015/2016 was rejected. Those data evidently proved that mind mapping was effective towards students writing especially at second semester students of FPBS IKIP Mataram in academic year 2015/2016.

<p><em>Writing is often considered as a complicated skill to master. In order to be able to write effectively, there are several aspects to consider, which often make students face some problems in composing a written text. Thus, the use of the appropriate instructional media is necessary to help students overcome those problems, and enhance their writing ability. This classroom action research aims to investigate the improvement of students’ writ</em><em>ing</em><em> skill</em><em> </em><em>through the use of animation movie as the instructional media. The participants of this research were two observers and </em><em>38</em><em> second grade senior high school</em><em> students</em><em>.</em><em> </em><em>This research used observation as the technique of collecting the qualitative data about the teaching and learning process, which then analyzed by using </em><em>thematic analysis. Meanwhile, writing tests were used to obtain the quantitative data about the students’ scores </em><em>o</em><em>n the test given at the end of the cycles. Descriptive statistics are used to analyse the quantitative data obtained in  this study. The research result showed that their average scores increased from the pre-test (75.68), to the post test in cycle 1 (78.71) and the post- test in cycle 2 (83.55). It indicated that their writing skill was also increased. Therefore, the use of animation movie in English class can improve the second grade senior high school students’ writing skill</em><em>.</em></p>

The purpose of this research is to find does the animation movies can improve students’ skill and ability in writing narrative text at SMP Swasta TD Pardede Foundation at VII grade in academic year2018/2019. In this research, the researchers used classroom action research and was conducted in two cycles. Each cycles consist of four steps, there are: planning, action, observing and reflecting. This research used quantitative and qualitative research to collect the data, researchers conduct tests. The tests are pre-test and post-test.The result showed that the teaching students’ skill in writing using video can improve students’ skill in writing narrative text. An increase in mean scores indicates that there is an increase in students’ skill.  The student’s pre-test score was 63.69; it increased to 72.50 in the first post-test up to 78.02 in the second post-test. From the result of the study, it can be concluded that teaching writing skill using animation videos can improve students’ writing skill. Keyword: narrative, animation movie

Writing skill  can encourage the students’ vocabulary enrichment, achieve the ability of students’ feeling, ideas, opinion, and express anything in their mind. This research is conducted because of some problems, they were : the students had difficulty in composing a good paragraph, need a speciffic activity that can help the students’ to improve student’s English writing ability in MA.Miftahul Qulub Polagan Galis Pamekasan, exactly writing descriptive paragraph. The purpose of the study are: To know the students taught using pair work activity have higher achievement on writing paragraph of the grade x students of MA Miftahul Qulub Pamekasan and to measure the significant effect of pair work activity use on writing paragraph of the gradex students in MA Miftahul Qulub Polagan Galis Pamekasan. The reserach was analysed by using quantitative method of experimental reserach design, and is implemented some kind of instruments such as, test (pre-test and post-test), observation and documentation. The result of this research showed that the students are taught by pair work activity have higher achievement on the students’ writing at the X grade of MA  Miftahul Qulub Polagan Galis Pamekasan. Besause t-observed 3.405 > t-table 2.009 so Ha is accepted. It has also significant effect of pairwork activity on writing paragraph of students at the X grade in MA Miftahul Qulub Polagan Galis Pamekasan. Because the significance is (0,001) < 0,05. Abstrak Kemampuan menulis bisa mendorong penguasaan kosa kata siswa , dan mencapai kemampuan untuk mengungkapkan kesan,ide-ide, pendapat siswa serta segala sesuatu yang ada di pikiran mereka. Penelitian ini diadakan berdasarkan beberapa masalah, seperti: siswa menghadapi kesulitan dalam mengarang sebuah paragraf sempurna, butuh acktivitas khusus untuk membantu siswa meningkatkan kemampuan menulisdalam bahasa inggris di MA Miftahul Qulub Polagan Galis Pamekasan, dalam hal ini penulisan paragraf deskriptif. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apakah siswa yang diajar dengan menggunakan aktivitas Pairwork mempunyai pencapaian lebih tinggi dalam kemampuan menulis paragraf pada siswa kelas X MA Miftahul Qulub Pamekasan dan juga mengukur pengaruh signifikan dari aktivitas Pairwork yang digunakan dalam kemampuan menulis paragraf siswa kelas X MA Miftahul Qulub Polagan Galis Pamekasan. Penelitian ini dianalisis menggunakan metode kuantitatif dari desain penelitian eksperimen murni dan menerapkan beberapa instrumen seperti tes (pre-test - post-test), observasi, dan dokumentasi. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa siswa yang diajar dengan aktivitas Pairwork mendapatkan pencapaian lebih tinggi dalam kemampuan menulis siswa kelas X MA Miftahul Qulub Pamekasan, karena T-hitung 3.405 > T-tabel 2.009 sehingga Ha diterima. Dan juga terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan dari penggunaan aktivitas Pairwork dalam kemampuan menulis paragraf siswa kelas X MA Miftahul Qulub Pamekasan karena terdapat signifikansi (0.001) < 0.05 sehingga bisa disimpulkan bahwa Ha diterima.

Writing ability is one of the important parts that should be learnt in the school. Writing can be said that it is very important for the students, because the students can express their ideas and cxperience in writing form. The teachers should always look for which one suitable technique to be applied to the students, in order to make the students interested in learning writing, they are Draw-Label-Caption (DLC) and Drill Technique. In this research, the researcher will compares DLC and Drill techniques that are the most effective technique to improve the students’ writing ability.In this experimental research, there are 3 variables. That are 1). Draw-Label-Caption (DLC) technique as the first independent variable. 2). Drill technique as the second independent variable. 3) Writing skill as the dependent variable. The method that is used in this research is test. Students are asked to write the text in English based on predetermined theme. In this study, researcher uses pre-test and post-test. Based on the data analysis the researcher gets the result of Based on the calculation, it is found that: 1) Fratio = 7,5 and Ftable at significance level 1% is 7,08 and at significance 5% is 4,00. At this point the researcher finds that Fratio is bigger than Ftable. The researcher concludes that there is difference of students’ English writing ability through DLC and Drill technique. 2) Fratio = 37,7 at the same signifficance level. So there is difference of students’ English writing ability through DLC and Drill technique.

ABSTRACT   The study purposed to determine if application letter can improve the students writing skill. The research intent onto the students’ ability English functional writing, especially in writing application letter at the fourth semester ASM Persada Bunda Pekanbaru. The research participants were the fourth semester students of  Akademi Sekretaris dan Manajemen (ASM) Persada Bunda Pekanbaru. There were 5 students. The research determined that application letter coud improve the students writing’s skill. This research is qualitative research. The writer collects the data using the test and the documentation. The test is written test of application letter in English subject for the students  at the fourth semester of ASM Persada Bunda Pekanbaru. The objective of this research was intended to know whether or not using outdoor learning strategy can improve the students’ writing skill at SMA Negeri 1 Maiwa Kabupaten Enrekang. This research applied quasi experimental method with one class of experimental group and one class of control group. The researcher used pre-test and post-test in collecting data. The research population was the students of tenth grade they were X.1 class and X.2 class consist of 46 students, so the researcher took random sampling technique. The data were analyzed by finding the mean score. For collecting the data, the researcher used one instrument namely descriptive writing test to measure the students’ writing ability. The result of this research showed that the student’ writing description was low classification in pre-test with the mean score 64.6 for experimental class and the mean score of control class was 60.8, and it was average categorized. However, after doing the treatment through outdoor learning strategy they got good classification for Experimental group and still average classification for control group in post-test; their mean score had increased up to 78.4, for Experimental and 69.9 for control group. The data was analyzed by using t-test and the result showed that the t-test value 4.037 was higher than t-table value 2.021. It meant that there was a significance difference of students’ writing ability before and after the treatment through the application of outdoor learning. It concluded that outdoor learning strategy can be used in improving writing description of the students.
