Purpose This paper aims to investigate whether and how religiosity (e.g. extrinsic and intrinsic) influences the mediator variables (consumers’ commitment and materialism) in the Islamic bank consumers context. It also examines how the mediators should be influence consumers’ preferences. Design/methodology/approach In total, 658 Muslim people and Islamic bank consumers were recruited for a survey study and structural equation modeling was used to test the research hypotheses. Findings The empirical results indicate that religiosity (e.g. extrinsic and intrinsic) has significant and positive effects on consumers’ commitment and materialism, whereas intrinsic religiosity has no significant effect on consumers’ commitment which subsequently influences consumers’ preference. Furthermore, mediator variables (e.g. consumers’ commitment and consumers’ materialism) have partial mediators between religiosity and consumers’ preferences. Research limitations/implications The current study was limited to Indonesian Muslim people; there is a future need to study consumers’ attitudes and engagement in religious products and services (e.g. Islamic brands). It is can help practitioners, regulators and researchers to observe the dynamic behavior to elaborate on the impact of religion and Islamic products on consumers’ preference. Practical implications The bank managers and regulators should enhance the information of products and services Islamic banks and the difference principle between conventional banks. Moreover, enlighten the consumers about the principle operation of Islamic banks from the perspective of marketing and religiosity. Originality/value This study contributes to consumers’ behavior literature and, specifically, for the decision-making process through developing and testing a model of religious determinants toward Islamic bank products, as well as offers new insights into the determinants of religion and consumers’ decision process toward Islamic banking.

This article aims to examine the principal parameters that impact the liquidity risk incurred by Islamic banks in the UAE. The study examines annual data from four Islamic banks in the UAE. The Data is extracted from their annual activity reports and financial results. A multiple linear regression model is used to assess the impact of six bank-specific variables (Return on Equity, return on assets, size of the bank, liquidity gaps, non-performing loans and capital adequacy ratio) on the liquidity risk of UAE Islamic banks. The designed model shows that ROA and NPL negatively impact the liquidity risk of the studied banks, while the other determinants, namely size, ROE, liquidity gaps and CAR contribute to the improvement of liquidity of UAE banks. Thus, our empirical results complement the existing studies related to the analysis of liquidity risk determinants incurred by Islamic banks operating in the MENA region, especially Emirati banks.

Banks are financial institutions that collect and distribute funds in the forms of deposits such as savings, deposits, current accounts, etc. from and for people who need funds for various needs, such as for consumption, working capital or business capital, housing and investment. In addition, banks must help the community to improve their living standards by distributing funds or giving credit to people who need funds. This is in accordance with the function of the bank itself, namely the bank as the distributor of funds. The purpose of this research is to examine and obtain evidence about factors that influence loan distribution at a bank. Internal factors that influence loan distribution are Third Party Funds, Non-Performing Loans, and Profitability. Efforts to increase credit at banks require optimal efforts to raise third-party funds, good credit management, and capital strengthening. This type of research is quantitative research with purposive sampling technique. The population used in this study is commercial banks from 2013 to 2017. The data come from commercial bank financial statements. As the benefit of this research the government can use it as a mapping material for distributing loan to commercial banks; the bank management can take it into consideration in making commercial bank lending policies. The results of the research show that profitability can mediate the relationship between third party funds and non-performing loans on loan distribution. Third party funds have a significant positive effect on loan distribution. Non-Performing Loans have a significant negative effect on loan distribution.
