Pedagogical science has in its arsenal a number of methods of teaching educational information. Visibility is one of the main principles of didactics. There are auditory, visual and kinesthetic teaching methods. The task of the teacher is to develop and use such methods that allow the best way to convey information to the student. The article is devoted to the description of visual models developed by teachers of the Department of Microbiology, Virology and Immunology of the Kharkov State Zooveterinary Academy. The models allow visualization of various biological objects: blood cells and tissues of the animal’s body, bacteria, viruses, molecules. Models are made of dense material and have a magnet. Due to this model is easily attached to the magnetic board. The models reflect the morphological and functional features of the depicted objects. Thus, the color of blood cells corresponds to their color in a smear, the color of bacteria — to a color when stained by Gram, and the different colors of molecules can mean their different function. Most often, models are used in the teaching of immunology. They help to visually show the various factors of immunity and their interactions. Using models, one can create illustrations of the most difficult topics: “Immune response”, “The role of cytokines in the immune response”, “Immunodeficiency and autoimmune diseases”, “Serological reactions in the laboratory diagnosis of infectious diseases”. The use of models helps in understanding information, its memorization and allows reflecting the dynamics of processes in immunology, virology and microbiology. To study the effect of the method of visual models on the quality of perception of educational information and analysis of the effectiveness of using models, we conducted a survey among students. The positive role of models in the study of veterinary microbiology, immunology and virology was noted by all students who participated in the survey.

Endometriosis is a benign, chronic, estrogen-dependent condition, present in 10% of women of reproductive age. The condition is associated with chronic pelvic pain and infertility that influence their quality of life, as well as married life and has important socio-economic consequences. Despite its high morbidity, its etiopathogenesis is incompletely known. A large number of studies suggest that the ability of endometrial implants to grow in ectopic locations may be correlated with the altered immune response towards the endometriotic tissue. There are enough data to show that immune system mediators, such as cytokines and chemokines, are playing key roles in the onset and olso on progression of endometriosis. There are studies that prove the association between endometriosis and autoimmune diseases. The present paper aims to investigate the implications of the immune response in the etiopathogenesis of endometriosis. The study of cellular or humoral immunity deficits, the presence of autoantibodies associated with this condition, can facilitate the understanding of the mechanisms that lead to the appearance and spread of endometriosis. We hope that this information will ultimately provide the basis for the development of new effective approaches in endometriosis management.

CdTe:Zn:V crystals grown by the seeded Bridgman method in microgravity conditions during the STS95-Spacelab-AGHF-1 mission and in the ground laboratory (l-g) were analyzed and compared. The results obtained clearly show that the structural quality of the space crystal is better. Density of inclusions, concentration of dislocations, and presence of stresses are lower in the microgravity-grown (μ-g) crystal. The l-g crystal contains twins and grains from the beginning of the growth process, that is, from the near-seed region. In general, the concentration of inclusions and amount of segregated impurities on the l-g crystal are larger than in the μ-g crystal. X-ray rocking curves and low-temperature photoluminescence spectra demonstrate the relatively high quality of both crystals on a microscale at the beginning of the growth and show that the l-g conditions were worse at the end. The results of this investigation demonstrate a positive role of contactless growth and μ-g conditions in the melt in suppressing the creation of inclusions and dislocations.

The co-electrolysis of CO2 and H2O at an intermediate temperature is a viable approach for the power-to-gas conversion that deserves further investigation, considering the need for green energy storage. The commercial solid oxide electrolyser is a promising device, but it is still facing issues concerning the high operating temperatures and the improvement of gas value. In this paper we reported the recent findings of a simple approach that we have suggested for solid oxide cells, consisting of the addition of a functional layer coated to the fuel electrode of commercial electrochemical cells. This approach simplifies the transition to the next generation of cells manufactured with the most promising materials currently developed, and improves the gas value in the outlet stream of the cell. Here, the material in use as a coating layer consists of a Ni-modified La0.6Sr0.4Fe0.8Co0.2O3, which was developed and demonstrated as a promising fuel electrode for solid oxide fuel cells. The results discussed in this paper prove the positive role of Ni-modified perovskite as a coating layer for the cathode, since an improvement of about twofold was obtained as regards the quality of gas produced.

For quicker and specific laboratory diagnosis there is a trend towards processing of specimens by sophisticated procedures like electron microscopy, immuno-electro-Osmo-phoresis, Fluorescent antibody and enzyme linked-immunosorbent tests. Specimens must, therefore, be collected as early as possible and transported on ice, without which the chances for diagnosis will be much reduced. Evolving disease resistant animals and birds has not met with success. The best means of preventing disease are by following strict measures of hygiene, sanitation, quarantine and segregation, including compulsory slaughter of the infected and the 'incontact animals'. When this is not possible, such as, for enzootic diseases and for those affecting many species of animals, vaccination is the only alternative. The quality of the vaccine and the manner in which it is administered will ultimately decide the outcome of immune response. Use of cell culture technology and genetic engineering have paved the way for modern technology of vaccine production. It is hoped that, in future, vaccines will be available to control diseases against which there are none at present.

Cytokines are important agents in regulating immune response in many diseases, and knowledge of relevant cytokine immune networks is necessary for understanding processes encompassed within their pathophysiology. One such disease is mastitis, which is inflammation of the mammary gland and greatly impacts the quantity and quality of milk produced by dairy cows. Understanding the cytokine immune network will be helpful in developing effective immunotherapy for mastitis, which is particularly important in view of the increasing antibiotic resistance among the bacterial pathogens causing this disease.
