At present, Ukraine is one of the first honey producing country in Europe. Around 100 thousand tonnes of honey are produced annually in Ukraine, therefore, maintaining the health of the bee colonies is an important issue. The use of different groups of drugs for the prevention of bee diseases is strictly controlled, now the known alternatives to antibiotics are probiotics. The micro-organisms in these preparats are able to synthesise vitamins and amino acids necessary for the growth and development of bees, which in turn activates the immunocompetent cells of the insects and prolongs their life. The immunomodulatory and immunostimulatory ability of such supplements of “beneficial” microorganisms is known, both in veterinary and human medicine. The use of such remedies is therefore promising in the field of modern beekeeping. “EM® PROBIOTIC FOR BEES” is a biopreparation that positively influences the microbiological environment of insects, as the preparation is based on Effective Microorganisms®. The ability of this probiotic to influence the dynamics of life span of Ukrainian steppe bees in a wooden entomological cage experiment (in vivo) was the main objective of the experiment. The effect of the probiotic on bee viability was determined by daily analysis and counting the number of dead insects. The study involved the settlement of bees in a wooden entomological cages and the creation of optimal conditions for their keeping (at a temperature of +24 – +25 °C and a humidity of 50–70 %). The product was diluted with buckwheat honey syrup solution and sugar syrup solution at concentrations of 5 %; 2.5 %; 1.25 %; control groups of bees received native solutions of the sugar syrup and buckwheat honey syrup. The analysis of the results shows a positive effect of “EM® PROBIOTIC FOR BEES” on the longevity of Ukrainian steppe worker bees of the winter generation in a entomological cage experiment. A beneficial effect of the probiotic product diluted in sugar syrup at concentrations of 1.25 % to 5 % has been detected on the bee organism, which increased their lifespan. When the product was diluted with buckwheat honey syrup, the best longevity of the insects was recorded at a concentration of 1.25 % compared to the control group of bees. The coefficient of average life expectancy of bees indicates the predominance of sugar syrup as a solvent for this probiotic compared to buckwheat honey syrup under laboratory conditions.

Abstract. The aim of the present study is to investigate the effect of Baikal EM1 on the productive parameters of the bee colonies (Apis mellifera L.) during spring and autumn feeding and the chemical composition of the worker bee bodies. Two groups of bee colonies were formed (1 experimental group and 1 control group). During the spring feeding the experimental group was fed with Baikal ЕМ1 at a dose of 5 ml/0.500 L added in the sugar syrup (sugar:water 1:1) for 4 consecutive days at the start of the experiment. Each bee colony received 5 L sugar syrup. During the autumn feeding the experimental group received Baikal ЕМ1 at a dose of 20 ml/10 L sugar syrup. Each bee colony received 10 L sugar syrup. The control group received only sugar syrup. The spring and autumn feeding of the group fed with Baikal EM1 significantly increases the strength of the bee colonies and the amount of the sealed worker brood compared to the control group. According to the results obtained for the strength of the bee colonies and the bee brood supplementary feeding with Baikal EM1 is very effective in the autumn feeding. For these two parameters there are significant differences between the experimental and control on 29.08. (p<0.01), 10.09. (p<0.05) and 22.09.2018 (p<0.01). Statistically significant differences were reported for the strength of the bee colonies (p<0.01) and the amount of sealed worker brood (p<0.001) in the experimental group receiving Baikal EM1 before wintering compared to the control group. It can be expected to reveal a tendency for better spring development in the next year. Feeding with Baikal EM1 does not affect the chemical composition of worker bee bodies.

The aim of this study was to evaluate whether the positive effect of GH002 on high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol in vitro and in vivo. In vitro assay, effects of GH002 on apolipoprotein (apo) A-I was studied using stable-transfected HepG2 cells with recombinant vector including apoA-I promoter; Effects of GH002 on apoA-I, apoA-II and apoC-III production were determined using HepG2 cells. In vivo assay, Effects of GH002 on lipid profile were investigated in hyperlipidemic rats. The results showed that GH002 can effectively activate apoA-I promoter, enhance apoA-I and apoA-II secretion in vitro, whereas reduce apoC-III production significantly. Furthermore, after in vivo study that the hyperlipidemic rats were treated with GH002, HDL-cholesterol levels were increased significantly (P<0.01) at 2 weeks (100 mg/kg, 28.8%) and 3 weeks (30mg/kg, 19.8% and 100mg/kg, 36.4%, respectively) compared with control group. Triglyceride levels were reduced significantly at 2 and 3 weeks (19.5%, P<0.05 and 28.1%, P<0.01 respectively). Total cholesterol levels also were reduced at 3 weeks (19.1%, P<0.05) after 100mg/kg GH002 administration, but GH002 didn’t increase the ratio of liver/body weight compared with the control group at the end of the experiments. It is therefore reasonable to assume that GH002 is an effectively HDL-cholesterol enhancer by regulating apoA-I gene expression, consequently enhancing apoA-I, apoA-II secretion and reducing apoC-III production.

AbstractMaintaining bee colonies in a healthy state throughout the year is one of the main concerns of apiculture researchers. The phenomenon of disappearance of bee colonies is determined by several factors, one of which is bee disease. Due to the organizational structure of the bee colony, disease transmission is rapid, especially through infected food or via the nurse worker bees that feed the brood bees of the colony concerned. The practice of stimulating the bee colonies in spring using sugar syrup feeds with added prebiotic products (lactic acid or acetic acid) and probiotics (Lactobacillus acidophilus LA-14 and Bifidobacterium lactis BI-04) by using an Enterobiotic product (Lactobacillus casei), marketed as Enterolactis Plus, for three weeks, resulted in a significant reduction of the total number of bacteria in the digestive tracts of the bees, compared with the control group. By contrast, intestinal colonization with beneficial bacteria contained in probiotics products administered to the bees was observed. This resulted in an improved health status and bio productive index of the bee colonies studied.

A study of the effectiveness of the use of feed additive Liatoxil in vivo in broiler chickens to study the ability of feed additives to improve digestion and affect the digestibility of nutrients. For research was formed on the principle of analogues -day age. Feeding of the control group was carried out with standard feed. Feeding of the experimental group was carried out with standard feed, in which the feed additive Liatoxil was added at the rate of 2 g / kg. The calculation of the digestibility of nutrients of the experimental and control feed was determined by their content in the feed and manure in terms of absolutely dry matter. It is established that the studied feed additive has a positive effect on the digestibility of feed nutrients. As a result of the use of feed additive Liatoxil, the digestibility of organic matter increased by 2.8 % compared to the control. The coefficient of protein digestibility in animals of the experimental group exceeded this indicator of the control group by 4.2 % and was 93.3 % against 89.1 % in the control. The digestibility of crude fat in poultry of the experimental group was 77.8 % and also exceeded by 2.0 % the value of the control group, which was 75.8 %. The studied feed additive did not significantly affect the digestibility of crude fiber, which was 23.3 % in the control and 23.5 % in the experiment. At the same time, the obtained data show that in the animals of the experimental group the digestibility of nitrogen-free extractives was 87.5 %, which is 2.8 % higher than this indicator of the control group.

The article considers the main quantitative changes in hemolymph cells under the action of the drug «Enteronormin» when fed with 50% sugar syrup during 10 days compared with the changes in the control group that received only sugar syrup. On the 3rd day, the hemogram of the bees that received the drug did not differ from the bees that received the sugar syrup only. Positive dynamics in the quantitative composition of the hemolymph was observed on the days 7–10. The number of phagocytic cells was 1.38% less than in the control group, and 2.0% of neutrophils less and 0.63–1.13% of eosinophils. The number of secretory cells increased, in particular, gliwocytes by 1.17% and 1.62%, respectively. It is noted that the medication «Enteronormin» has been extended to the extent of 3 days not a positive effect on the immune system of  bees. Therefore, the drug «Enteronormin» should be fed for at least 7 days, taking into account the quantitative changes in hemocytes. On the twenty-first day the effect of the drug was preserved. The most appropriate term for drug feeding with the aim of activating the cellular immunity is defined to be 7–10 days.

Experimental data of the lipid composition of the honey bees and bee bread in the spring period under the conditions of feeding sugar syrup with Ag and Cu citrates are presented in the article. The studies were conducted on 3 groups of bee colonies, three bee colonies each. Control group (I) received sugar syrup at a concentration of 1:1 (1000 ml per week), experimental (II) group received under similar conditions with sugar syrup 0.2 mg of Argentum and 0.2 mg of Cuprum in citrate form. The third experimental group was fed with sugar syrup Ag and Cu citrates at doses of 0.5 mg each per 1000 ml of sugar syrup per week. The study was lasted 36 days. Samples of tissues of the whole organism of honey bees in the amount of 30–35 pieces were selected for the study. from each bee colony and bee bread to determine the total lipid content by the Folch method and their separate fractions: phospholipids, mono- and diacylglycerols, free cholesterol, non-esterified fatty acids, triacylglycerols, esterified cholesterol glycol cholesterol using thin layer chromatography using silica gel plates Sorbfil. According to the results of the research, we found intergroup differences of total lipid content in the tissues of whole organism of the honey bees and bee bread of experimental groups in comparison with the control group. Higher levels of phospholipids, esterified cholesterol, and lower levels of free cholesterol, mono- and diacylglycerols and triacylglycerols were found in the tissue of bees II and III of the experimental group. Introduction of Ag and Cu citrates into the components of bee feeding in the bee bread the level of phospholipids (P ˂ 0.01), mono and diacylglycerols (group III), triacylglycerols increased against the decrease of free cholesterol (P ˂ 0.05) and esterified cholesterol (P ˂ 0.01).

In the modern world, the problem of honey-bee colonies’ death is acute. An intensive search is underway for environmentally friendly preparations that could stimulate the bees’ resistance to various diseases, as well as have a beneficial effect on the body, thereby contributing to an increase in honey productivity. Preparations based on live probiotics bacteria of Lactobacillus and Bacillus subtilis genus are currently becoming increasingly popular. The use of probiotics in beekeeping allows to destroy pathogenic microflora, strengthen immunity and activate the body’s metabolic processes. The aim of the study was to determine the influence efficiency of probiotic preparations complex ApiVrach, SpasiPchel, Pche-loNormoSil during the period of spring development on the economically useful traits of honey-bee colonies. Studies have found that when probiotics are added to sugar syrup in the spring, the brood growth of bee colonies and their honey productivity are activated. The flight activity of bees when feeding with probiotic preparations increased by 43.6% from the control group. When assessing the dynamics of the bee colony’s strength, it was found that the usage of “ApiVrach” + “PcheloNormoSil” combination allows increasing the amount of sealed brood by 4 times, and the strength of the bee colony - by 1.5 times. Also, this combination of preparations made it possible to obtain the largest amount of total honey yield by 19.2% more than the control group, by 3.0% more than the group that received the ApiVrach + SpasiPchel complex and by 1.1% more than when using ApiVrach.

In cases of peripheral nerve damage the gap between proximal and distal stumps can be closed by suturing the ends together, using a nerve graft, or by nerve tubulization. Suturing allows regeneration but does not prevent formation of painful neuromas which adhere to adjacent tissues. Autografts are not reported to be as good as tubulization and require a second surgical site with additional risks and complications. Tubulization involves implanting a nerve guide tube that will provide a stable environment for axon proliferation while simultaneously preventing formation of fibrous scar tissue. Supplementing tubes with a collagen gel or collagen plus extracellular matrix factors is reported to increase axon proliferation when compared to controls. But there is no information regarding the use of collagen fibers to guide nerve cell migration through a tube. This communication reports ultrastructural observations on rat sciatic nerve regeneration through a silicone nerve stent containing crosslinked collagen fibers.Collagen fibers were prepared as described previously. The fibers were threaded through a silicone tube to form a central plug. One cm segments of sciatic nerve were excised from Sprague Dawley rats. A control group of rats received a silicone tube implant without collagen while an experimental group received the silicone tube containing a collagen fiber plug. At 4 and 6 weeks postoperatively, the implants were removed and fixed in 2.5% glutaraldehyde buffered by 0.1 M cacodylate containing 1.5 mM CaCl2 and balanced by 0.1 M sucrose. The explants were post-fixed in 1% OSO4, block stained in 1% uranyl acetate, dehydrated and embedded in Epon. Axons were counted on montages prepared at a total magnification of 1700x. Montages were viewed through a dissecting microscope. Thin sections were sampled from the proximal, middle and distal regions of regenerating sciatic plugs.

While the use of vinegar to fi ght against infections and other crucial conditions dates back to Hippocrates, recent research has found that vinegar consumption has a positive effect on biomarkers for diabetes, cancer, and heart diseases. Different types of vinegar have been used in the world during different time periods. Vinegar is produced by a fermentation process. Foods with a high content of carbohydrates are a good source of vinegar. Review of the results of different studies performed on vinegar components reveals that the daily use of these components has a healthy impact on the physiological and chemical structure of the human body. During the era of Hippocrates, people used vinegar as a medicine to treat wounds, which means that vinegar is one of the ancient foods used as folk medicine. The purpose of the current review paper is to provide a detailed summary of the outcome of previous studies emphasizing the role of vinegar in treatment of different diseases both in acute and chronic conditions, its in vivo mechanism and the active role of different bacteria.

The effect of triiodothyronine (T3) on the differentiation of cultured neuroblastoma (NB) cells was studied after 9 days of treatment with a dose of 10-4 M/106 cells per day. Using phase contrast microscopy, 30-50% of NB cells showed formation of neurites as a morphological sign of cellular differentiation. The initial rise of the mitosis rate was followed by a plateau. Changes in cyclic nucleotide content, in the triphosphates and in the activity of the enzyme ornithine decarboxylase (ODC) were assessed in 2 human and 2 murine cell lines to serve as biochemical parameters of the cell differentiation induced by T3. Whereas the cAMP level increased significantly (3 to 7 fold compared with its initial value), the cGMP value dropped to 30 to 50% of that of the control group. ATP and GTP increased about 200%, the ODC showed a decrease of about 50%. The present studies show a biphasic effect of T3 on neuroblastoma cells: the initial rise of mitotic activity is followed by increased cell differentiation starting from day 4 of the treatment.
