General characteristics of ore minerals and organic matter within the selected areas of the KGHM Polska Miedź S.A, is discussed in the work. For the study, 5 samples from the Industrial Głogów Głęboki field and 11 samples from Sieroszowice mining field have been collected. At both locations, sampling was carried out from three zones: (I) depression, characterized by higher thickness of Kupferschiefer, (II) slope of elevation with pronounced decrease of thickness, and finally (III) the elevation, at which Kupferschiefer’s thickness usually does not exceed 0.1 m. Detailed studies have been carried out on samples from the Kupferchiefer, because this horizon has the strong influence on quantity and quality of ore minerals deposition in other parts of economic part of the profiles. Important relationship between TOC content, HI and HI/OI indices and quantity and quality of minerals has been discussed. Hydrogen index is well correlated with quantity of copper sulphides, however its values below 100 may show quality changes of copper sulphides from Cu+ to Cu2+ (covellite). Low value of HI/OI index represent samples from the transition zone, were sulphide contents are variable.
