Purpose. The article is devoted to the identification of manipulative headlines in the media space of Ukrainian-language online publications in 2020 and the analysis of manipulative technologies applied to them. The purpose of the article is to identify manipulative technologies applied to headlines in the modern Ukrainian-language media space.Methods. To achieve this goal, the paper uses appropriate research methods: the method of continuous sampling for the selection of manipulative media headlines that occur in online publications; method of content analysis to study the implicative content of manipulative titles of publications of Ukrainian online publications in 2020. Results. The title in the online edition is a communicative unit that performs a number of functions: nominative-informational, advertising-expressive, graphic-distinctive.Manipulative technologies used by journalists and editors for verbal design of headlines of materials published in online publications are analyzed. Among them – the use of stereotypes, labeling, repetition of information, anonymous authority, statement of fact, distraction, the principle of contrast, psychological shock.Conclusions. As a result of the content analysis, which was to identify the implicative content of manipulative titles of Ukrainian online publications in 2020, the authors of this investigation found that journalists and editors productively use manipulative technologies that increase clickability and, consequently, bring profit to owners media. But there is a trend: the more actively mass media use these technologies, i.e. the clickability increases, the lower the quality of information content in the media space. Poor performance of the main function of mass media in society – information – causes a violation of the process of socio-political communication. The analyzed techniques create manipulative content, the purpose of which is to attract the attention of media consumers (the main thing is the advertising-expressive function of headlines), which play an important role in the media space, because they disseminate information on social networks or orally.Key words: manipulation, media manipulation, manipulation technology, content.

Against the background of the socio-political events of the time, the article analyzes the process of deepening the totalitarian ways of managing the media in Transcarpathia, the region most recently annexed to the Soviet Union. Communists liquidate newspapers and magazines of other parties, cultural and public associations in the region, and communist government bodies purposefully turn the newly created print media and survivors into a means of destroying dissent. Through custom newspaper publications, the communist administrative-command system not only launches repression against active local cultural and public figures, scholars, writers, clergy, but also uses a titanic effort to ideologically re-educate the population of Transcarpathia through the print media The main function of the media is to promote the communist way of life and class struggle. The author examines the main stages of the transformation of the Transcarpathian print media into communist print media, draws attention to the way in which the Soviet authorities in Transcarpathia fought dissent through the print media, rigidly implemented anti-religious propaganda in the media. Those public and religious figures who did not agree to move to the side of communist power were ruthlessly physically destroyed. Such was the fate of the famous and authoritative among the population of Transcarpathian Greek-Catholic bishop Theodore Romzha. Transcarpathian press of the second half of the 20th century becomes an era of strengthening and deepening of Sovietization. The media actively promoted the idea that the country had entered the era of advanced socialism, and that all peoples in the Soviet Union formed a single historical community – the «Soviet people». In this way, the idea that the national issue was finally resolved was entrenched. At the same time, self-publishing books, which proved quite differently, had a significant impact on Ukrainian society. During these years, Transcarpathia became the base for the transfer of selfpublishing and dissident works to Western Europe for printing. Anti-Communist appearances in neighboring Czechoslovakia, known as the «Prague Spring», have had a major impact on the information space of this region. Keywords: periodicals, journalism, mass media, media space, propaganda, agitation, party press.

In the article the thoughts about science as a creative process are presented in the context of the historical-cultural epistemology, specificity of which is presented in the material by B.I. Pruzhinin and T.G. Shchedrina. Tendencies in the modern world’s development – social, economic, political, communication – do not give rise to doubts about the presence of a paradox: the more globalized the world becomes, the more science gravitates towards the status of applied – this determines its effectiveness. Nonetheless, what is lost when emphasizing efficiency? To answer this question is worth remembering that the intellectual revolution in Europe in the 17th and 18th centuries was based not only on the works of Bacon, Descartes, and Newton but also on the radical position expressed in Machiavelli’s “Sovereign” who placed utility above virtue. As soon as science becomes a pragmatic business, prestige, fame, safety, and comfort begin to depend on its success. Knowledge is power, but in the new political and social realities, the main thing is practical, utilitarian, and effective. By becoming disciplinary, technical, science gains power – but is this power not limited to its own constructions? Paradoxically, science, performing a service function, begins to lose the status of an instance of meaning. Serving society, it, nevertheless, is not a connecting force in society – they resort to it for recipes and solutions, but they do not consider it as a common cause, and as a platform for social interaction, they expect a product from science, but not meanings and values, benefit, but not virtues. However, what is a product of science? How is its performance measured? And who determines the effectiveness? This article attempts to partially illuminate these issues, including in the field of their consideration existentially loaded aspects of the scientific community’s creativity – aesthetic, technical-digital, including computer games. Collective intuition as the acquisition of new experience, as the creation of previously nonexistent contexts in which new objects, events, and phenomena are placed – all these are key conditions for a world of uncertainty in which science is already required not only objective results but also involvement in the joint comprehension of existential projects. Truth there is not always the result, but rather a beginning, which requires, among other things, the derivation of all scientific consequences for which other forms of habitation of experience are open – aesthetic, playful, performative.

Since Brexit and the election of President Donald Trump, news media around the world have given extensive coverage to the issue of disinformation and polarization. This article argues that while the negative effects of social media have dominated the discussion, these effects do not address how right-wing populists have been able to successfully and legitimately use digital media to circumvent traditional media. The article uses the United States and Sweden as case studies about how digital media have helped to achieve electoral success and shift the political direction in both countries—though in quite different ways. It also argues that the sources of right-wing populism go beyond the hitherto dominant left–right political divide, capturing anti-elite sentiment, and promoting exclusionary nationalism. The dominance of the issue of media manipulation has obscured the shift whereby the relation between the media and politics has become more fluid and antagonistic, which fits the populist agenda. This shift requires a rethinking of political communication that includes both the social forces that give rise to populism and the alternative digital channels that entrench them, with implications for the prospects of the role of media in politics in the two countries and beyond.

An increase in the global circulation of symbolic commodities allows for both new and older forms of mass media to re-construct the ways in which individuals identify with themselves and with their own cultures. This paper outlines Slovakia's television media structure and its development from the communist era to its current form. The demand for vlogs (video blogs) in the modern world stipulates the relevance of this work: having turned into a full-fledged media space, vlogs are steadily beginning to win back the position of leading mass media from television. The article studies the audience of vlogs as the most important factor which determines the model of communication of a vlogger and the final design of the media product as a whole and its issues in particular. The sources for the research are popular vlogs of the Runet which make it possible to trace distinguishing features of the vlog audience in comparison with the TV audience and to point out its similarities with the target audience in advertising communication. The retail communication act itself, which is initiated by a vlogger, demonstrates the similarity with the AIDMA model. As a result of the conducted analysis the author is able to make several conclusions: 1) about specific featuresof the audience of the vlog; 2) about the influence of the factor of the addressee on the vloggers’ work; 3) about different means of influence used by a vlogger to retain the audience’s attention and involve the audience in post-communication activity; 4) about the singularity of retail communication in vlogs. The active position of the addressee of communication in the virtual media space, the opportunity and the necessity of interactive communication for vlog promotion induce vloggers to constantly resolve the objectives of attracting and retaining the attention of subscribers, audience augmentation, and elaboration of topics for postcommunication activity of the audience. The vlog format, which is aimed at the creation and dissemination of media texts with complicated semiotics, enables and forces a vlogger to apply the widest range of verbal and nonverbal means of communication.

This article gives a detailed account of one of the topical issues of modern integrative linguistic stylistics, i.e., substantiation of the content of the latest concepts that are formed within the interrelated disciplines. Attention is specifically paid to the terms media stylistics, verbal and linguocultural content of the media. The author elaborates on the concept of linguocultural content of the media text interpreting it as linguistic and aesthetic signs of culture, components of linguistic and informational pictures of the world, i.e., a value-content meaning of the mass media which unfolds and concretizes the general and nationally marked concepts, and as a regular manifestation of the language norm. The data of the magazine A Woman shows that the verbal content is a significant, specific segment of the functioning of the modern Ukrainian literary language in the media space. It reflects the universal stratification of the language of national professional, social, every day, and artistic culture, the synergy of its mediatopes and media genres, broadcasts a hierarchy of social (socio-political, gender), psychological and economic stereotypes, and human needs. They are all united by the Ukrainian-centric linguocultural platform which consists of both value-semantic signs of culture and structural-level units of the literary-linguistic continuum. In terms of media stylistics, the language of Ukrainian-language media is analyzed in two complementary perspectives: 1) via metaphorical-associative field structures with specific core nominations; 2) via the principles of realization of the media structural-level norm in the mass media. Keywords: media stylistics, verbal content, linguocultural indicator of value, metaphorical-associative field, language norm, sign of culture.
