The review considers the main stages of development of the chemistry of coordination compounds at the Institute of General and Inorganic Chemistry. VI Vernadsky National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of its founding. An overview of complex compounds of p, d, f-metals with different classes of ligands (inorganic and organic), features of their synthesis, study of the structure and properties of the obtained compounds, contains current material on the use of synthesized complexes to create functional materials for different purposes. Methods of synthesis have been developed, dozens of new coordination compounds with derivatives of hydrazones, amines, azomethanes, and thiosemicarbazones have been synthesized and isolated in the individual state. Their composition, structure and physicochemical properties are determined. The general regularities that take place in the process of complexation of metals with ligands, as well as factors influencing the composition, structure and physicochemical properties of the obtained coordination compounds are established. For the long history of the Institute has accumulated a huge amount of material on the problems of modern coordination chemistry. Significant research in this area belongs to Ukrainian scientists who have worked long and fruitfully at the Institute: A.K. Babko, K.B. Yatsimirsky, Ya.A. Fialkov, I.A. Sheka, S.V. Volkov, N.A. Kostromina, and who created scientific schools, known not only in Ukraine but also abroad. To date, the attention of scientists of the Institute has shifted from classical monomeric to bigeteronuclear, polynuclear, multiligand complexes, which is primarily due to intensive research of new functional materials: optical and magnetic, biologically active substances, as well as effective adsorbents, chemical sensors, catalysts, catalysts, catalysts and biochemical processes.

The purpose of the article is to study the history of creation and the ideological content of the mosaic by Mykola Andriyovych Storozhenko (1928–2015) "Lviv Stavropegic Brotherhood of the 16th – 18th centuries." in the interiors of N.N. Bogolyubov ITF of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in Feofaniya (1969) in the context of the heritage of Ukrainian and world monumental art. Methodology.The study uses historical and cultural, comparative, iconographic and iconological methods. We rely on the hermeneutics of Hans-Georg Gadamer and the theory of "big time" by M.M. Bakhtin, which allows us to consider the mosaics of M.A. Storozhenko in the context of the heritage of world art. Main results. In the mosaic "Lexicon”, the greatness of the word is affirmed by means of monumental art. Storozhenko restores its sacred meaning, forgotten in the days of atheism. The master showed the importance of the printed word for the formation of Ukrainian culture. The ideological content of the monumental composition “Stauropegia. Lexicon": the educational value of words and art. Combining the interiors of the printing house and art workshop with the architectural space of the city, the master creates the image of Lviv as a cultural and educational center of Orthodoxy in Western Ukraine. The use of comparative analysis showed that M. Storozhenko synthesizes the artistic heritage of the ancient world (Tripoli, Egypt), Kievan Rus (monumental art and miniature), Renaissance, Rococo, Cubism, abstractionism and others. Polystylism, characteristic of art of the XX–XXI centures, became the basis for the formation of the individual artistic style of one of the leading artists of our time. Scientific novelty. The cultural-historical and artistic meaning of the monumental mosaic of M.A. Storozhenko has been studied in connection with the problems of national self-identification and polystylism of art of the twentieth century. Practical significance. The results of the study are necessary for the creation of a modern history of monumental and decorative art of Ukraine.

REFERENCES Semenov V. N., Naumov A. V. In this work, coordination compounds of Co (II) with derivatives of dihydro-4H-3,1-benzoxazines were synthesized by a chemical method and their composition, structure, and physicochemical properties were studied. ... According to the data of elemental analysis and analysis for metal, the obtained complex compounds have the composition ML2, where M is metal, L are ligands: 2- [2-hydroxyphenyl] -4,4-diphenyl-1,2-dihydro-4H-3,1benzoxazine (L1), 2- [2-hydroxy-5-nitrophenyl] -4,4-diphenyl-1 , 2-dihydro-4H-3,1-benzoxazine (L2), 2- [2hydroxynaphthyl] -4,4-diphenyl-1,2-dihydro-4H-3,1-benzoxazine (L3), 2- [ 2-hydroxynaphthyl] -4,4-diethyl-1,2dihydro-4H-3,1-benzoxazine (L4). The structure and properties of the obtained complex compounds were studied by IR spectroscopy. According to IR spectroscopy data, it was found that in all complex compounds, the ligand participates in the open azomethine form; coordination with the metal atom involves two oxygen atoms and a nitrogen atom of the azomethine fragment of the ligand. It was found that the ligand in the complex performs a tridentate chelate-bridging function. The structure of complex compounds of cobalt with derivatives of benzoxazines is proposed.

Five mercury complexes were synthesized by condensation of mercuric chloride with different biologically active amines. In the present study D-amphetamine, L-amphetamine, DL-amphetamine, methyl-amphetamine, ephedrine, and tyramine were used where a stereoisomeric effect was observed during the formation of the mercury complexes. The complex compound synthesized from DL-amphetamine was found to be a mixture of the mercury complexes of D-amphetamine and L-amphetamine, and the difference in their solubilities was utilized for their separation. The estimation of the carbon, hydrogen, and nitrogen content, the determination of the amount of chlorine and mercury, and measurements of the infrared absorption spectra at 700–3500 cm−1 indicated the ratio of 2:1 for amine to mercury in these coordination compounds. Further characterization of these mercury complexes was done by ultraviolet absorption spectra and conductance measurements.

Abstract. Background: Self-esteem is a major contributor to risk for repeated suicide attempts. Prior research has shown that awareness of stigma is associated with reduced self-esteem among people with mental illness. No prior studies have examined the association between self-esteem and stereotype awareness among individuals with past suicide attempts. Aims: To understand the relationship between stereotype awareness and self-esteem among young adults who have and have not attempted suicide. Method: Computerized surveys were administered to college students (N = 637). Linear regression analyses were used to test associations between self-esteem and stereotype awareness, attempt history, and their interaction. Results: There was a significant stereotype awareness by attempt interaction (β = –.74, p = .006) in the regression analysis. The interaction was explained by a stronger negative association between stereotype awareness and self-esteem among individuals with past suicide attempts (β = –.50, p = .013) compared with those without attempts (β = –.09, p = .037). Conclusion: Stigma is associated with lower self-esteem within this high-functioning sample of young adults with histories of suicide attempts. Alleviating the impact of stigma at the individual (clinical) or community (public health) levels may improve self-esteem among this high-risk population, which could potentially influence subsequent suicide risk.

The nineteenth century introduced developments in science and medicine that made the eradication of pain conceivable for the first time. This new understanding of pain brought with it a complex set of moral and philosophical dilemmas. If pain serves no obvious purpose, how do we reconcile its existence with a well-ordered universe? Examining how writers of the day engaged with such questions, this book offers a compelling new literary and philosophical history of modern pain. The book provides close readings of novelists Charlotte Brontë and Thomas Hardy and political and natural philosophers John Stuart Mill, Harriet Martineau, and Charles Darwin, as well as a variety of medical, scientific, and popular writers of the Victorian age. The book explores how discussions of pain served as investigations into the status of persons and the nature and parameters of social life. No longer conceivable as divine trial or punishment, pain in the nineteenth century came to seem instead like a historical accident suggesting little or nothing about the individual who suffers. A landmark study of Victorian literature and the history of pain, the book shows how these writers came to see pain as a social as well as a personal problem. Rather than simply self-evident to the sufferer and unknowable to anyone else, pain was also understood to be produced between persons—and even, perhaps, by the fictions they read.

This article offers an analysis of the identity work of a black transgender woman through life history research. Identity work pertains to the ongoing effort of authoring oneself and positions the individual as the agent; not a passive recipient of identity scripts. The findings draw from three life history interviews. Using thematic analysis, the following themes emerge: institutionalisation of gender norms; gender and sexuality unintelligibility; transitioning and passing; and lastly, gender expression and public spaces. The discussion follows from a poststructuralist conception of identity, which frames identity as fluid and as being continually established. The study contends that identity work is a complex and fragmented process, which is shaped by other social identities. To that end, the study also acknowledges the role of collective agency in shaping gender identity.
