The present study focuses on the impact of copper and silver nanoparticles on the chemical composition and physical properties of rapeseeds and rape sprouts. The seeds and sprouts were obtained from winter rape grown in a three-year cultivation (2018–2020) treated with silver (AgNP) and copper (CuNP) nanoparticles. In addition, the effect of the freeze-drying temperature (20; 40; 60 °C) on selected properties of the sprouts was studied. Spraying growing plants with nanoparticles resulted, in most cases, and depending on the year, in a reduction in the mass of seeds (MTS) by 9.5% (single nanoparticles spray ×1 CuNP in 2018), an increase in the fat content (by 8.80% for ×1 CuNP in 2018), a reduction in the protein content (by 12.93% for ×1 CuNP in 2018) and flavonoid content (by up to 58% for ×1 AgNP and CuNP in 2018), as well as increase in the glucosinolates content by 25% (for double nanoparticles spray ×2 AgNP in 2019). For the sprouts obtained from the rapeseeds, in most cases, a decrease in the content of flavonoids was observed (26.68% for ×1 AgNP; 20 °C in 2018), depending on the year of cultivation, the nanoparticles used, and the drying temperature. The obtained results remain inconclusive, which encourages the authors to undertake further research.

Studies were carried out on the main indicators of the chemical composition and physical properties of muskulus longissimus dorsi of pigs of different genotypes during hybridization. The indicators of the chemical composition and physical properties of muskulus longissimus dorsi were determined by conventional methods. The materials of experimental studies were processed using methods of variation statistics. According to the amount of moisture, no significant difference between the control and experimental groups was established. According to the amount of protein in meat, a tendency to a slight decrease, compared with the control group by 1.4 (group III) … 1.9 % (group II) was established. The use of boars of Poltava meat breed led to a decrease in intramuscular fat in descendants by 0.25 % compared with peers of a large white breed (P <0.95), and precocious meat - to a real increase of this indicator by 0.43 % at P> 0 , 95. A tendency towards an increase in the amount of tryptophan (by 0.04 ... 0.05) and oxyproline (by 0.004 ... 0.005) in the muscles of hybrid animals was revealed in comparison with peers of pure breed of large white breed. In terms of the biological usefulness of meat proteins, animals of group III were the best - in terms of the quality of the protein of the longest muscle of the back, their advantage over peers of group II was 0.07, and compared with purebred peers. Group I - 0.12 (p <0.95). It was found that with the same area of the meat spot both in purebred large white breeds of animals and hydrides of different genotypes, there is a tendency to increase the latter compared to the control in a humid place: with a «share» of «blood» ½ pm by 2.2 %, and with a «share» of blood ½ cm - 1.4 %. A tendency has been established to increase the pH value of the longest back muscle in animals with a «share» of blood of specialized meat breeds compared with a large white breed. In hybrid animals with a «share» of blood of Poltava meat and precocious meat breeds, there is a tendency to increase the pH value in comparison with the large white breed by 0.15 (2.8 %) and by 0.17 (3.1 %), i.e. the meat of hybrid pigs, the pH of which has a shift towards alkalinity due to less accumulation of lactic acid, has a worse preservation.

The long lifecycle, also known as durability and the permanence / invariability in the quality of papers and cardbords for graphic art, are today the basic requirements, imposed by printed art in terms of high quality parameters. These two factors are a manifestation, depending on different internal chemical-composition properties of the paper consistency and external influences of the ambience. Longevity and permanence are perceived as a function of aging and are actually observed at a later point in time. It is important to clarify that they are terms with different contents where „durability” is perceived as the ability of the paper or cardboard to resist the impact of wear during use, and the „permanence” is the possibility of product to remain chemically and physically stable for a long period of time.

The studies were conducted in the period of 2010-2011, in the Laboratory of Orcharding at the West Pomeranian University of Technology in Szczecin, and related to the bushes of the highbush blueberry of the Duke cultivar. The authors examined the impact of foliar calcium fertlizers (Calcinit, Calcium chloride, Fruton Calcium Calcium, Folanx®Ca29 Lebosol Calcium Forte Calcium Forte) on the fruit size and firmness, their chemical composition, content of macronutrients in the foliage and fruits, and their colour. It was found that the applied fertlizers have varied impact on the examined attributes. The bushes sprayed with the Lebosol Calcium Forte and Calcinit preparations had big fruits with a high content of K and Mg, and dark foliage. The application of the Lebosol Calcium Forte fertilizer increased the content of polyphenols and vitamin C in the fruits. The smallest amounts of such compounds were determined in the fruits sprayed with the Calcinit fertilizer. The highest firmness and resistance to mechanical damage were achieved in the case of the fruits collected from the bushes sprayed with the foliar fertlizers containing calcium chloride, such as Fruton Calcium and Folanx Ca29. It was determined that the application of the calcium preparations resulted in the increase of the calcium content in the fruits and foliage. The highest amounts of this element were determined in the case of the plants sprayed with the Folanx Ca29 and Lebosol Calcium Forte preparations.

Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were synthesized using hydroalcoholic extracts of dittany (Origanum dictamnus), sage (Salvia officinalis), sea buckthorn (Elaeagnus rhamnoides, syn. Hippophae rhamnoides), and calendula (Calendula officinalis) as reducing agents. AgNPs synthesized using NaBH4 and citric acid were used as control. The impact of the origin of the extract and preparation conditions (light, temperature, reaction time) on the properties of the synthesized AgNPs was investigated. The structure, morphology, composition, physicochemical characteristics, and colloidal stability were characterized using dynamic laser scattering (DLS), ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometry (UV–/Vis), XRD, X-ray fluorescence (XRF), TEM, and FTΙR. The reduction of total phenolic and flavonoid content of the extracts after the reaction of AgNPs synthesis was also determined. Low IC50 values for all types of AgNPs revealed good antioxidant activity, attributable to the phenolic and flavonoid content of their surface. The results suggest that plant extract selection is important to the green synthesis of AgNPs because it affects the kinetics of their synthesis as well as their morphology, physicochemical characteristics, and colloidal stability. In vitro permeation studies on porcine skin revealed that AgNPs remained at the upper layers of stratum corneum and did not penetrate the skin barrier after 4 h of cutaneous application suggesting the safety of their application on intact skin for a relatively short time.

Abstract This study was planned to investigate the raw milk characteristics and quality aspects and to evaluate the impact of nongenetic factors on physicochemical composition and microbial quality of milk from local Maghrebi camels (Camelus dromedarius) kept under a traditional system in oasis areas, southern west, Tunisia. Forty-nine individual milk samples were collected from lactating Negga over two periods of the year (winter and summer). Animals belonging to private flocks were between 5 and 17.5 years of age, with parity numbers ranging from first to sixth. Samples were analyzed for physical parameters, chemical composition, mineral concentrations, and microbiological features according to standard methods. The overall means of physical characteristics were 6.63 ± 0.22, 1030.63 ± 2.54, and 19.11 ± 4.08 for pH, density, and acidity, respectively. No significant association (P > 0.05) between physical characteristics and nongenetic factors has been observed. The average results of chemical composition for dry matter, protein, fat, casein, lactose, ash, and casein/protein ratio were 115.24±15.67g/L, 30.98±6.40 g/L, 32.84±4.88 g/L, 22.77±4.27 g/L, 37.21±4.64 g/L, 6.87±1.59 g/L, and 0.74±0.06 g/L respectively. Season, parity, and age were confirmed to impinge significantly on chemical components, except for lactose. The maximum contents of total solids, protein, casein, and fat content were observed during winter. The third lactation was characterized with the highest content of total solids, protein, casein, and lactose; while the highest fat content was recorded in the second lactation. Lactose content was stable throughout all the studied age classes (P > 0.05), whereas the other chemical constituents, showed an obvious superiority in the age class of 7≤ age ≤ 9 years. Season, parity, and age of the animal exerted a significant effect on all minerals. The highest levels of Ca, P, and K were recorded in the winter (P<0.01) whereas Na showed an opposite pattern and was higher in the summer (P<0.01). All major minerals were higher in milk from multiparous than primiparous camels, with maximum concentrations at the fourth lactation. The uppermost levels of mineral concentrations were recorded in the age class of 7≤ age ≤ 9 years. The lowest ones were those of animals over 12 years old. The microbial analysis of raw milk which is affected by season, parity, and age showed higher overall contamination levels in all studied bacterial counts. The highest levels were observed in winter, among the multiparous and oldest Negga. The results highlighted the complete absence of the two dangerous pathogens Salmonella and CSR in all analyzed samples.

This work investigated the impact of three drying methods on structural and functional properties of potato flour (PF), as well as the quality characteristics of fresh noodles made from wheat-potato flours. The results indicated that ethanol drying (ED) and oven drying (OD) had small effects on the properties of starch in potato flour, however, freeze drying (FD) caused some pores and channels on the starch granules and disruption of the long- and short-range ordered structure of starch. The maximum addition of potato flour in fresh noodles was 40% for FD-PF and 50% for both ED-PF and OD-PF. With increasing addition of potato flour in noodles, the L* (lightness) values of noodles decreased gradually, while the a* (redness) and the b* (yellowness) values, as well as the hardness and springiness values of fresh potato noodles increased. This study clearly showed that drying methods have different effects on the properties of potato flour, and in turn the quality of fresh noodles made with potato flour.

Torrefaction, a thermal pretreatment process, is gaining attention as it improves the physical properties and chemical composition of biomass for recycling. During torrefaction, biomass is heated slowly in an inert or oxygen-deficit environment to a maximum temperature of 300°C. The torrefaction process creates a solid uniform product with lower moisture and higher energy content than the raw biomass. During torrefaction, moisture and some volatile organic compounds volatilize from the biomass. Depending on stoichiometry and other conditions, non-condensable gas species, including CO and CO2, are formed. The specific objectives of this research are to: 1) understand the impact of torrefaction on product quality in terms of the physical properties, chemical composition, and storage behavior of the biomass; 2) discuss the various reactors used for biomass torrefaction; and 3) develop a model for designing a moving bed torrefier, considering fundamental heat and mass transfer calculations. Torrefaction improves the physical properties, chemical composition, and energy and storage properties of biomass. Torrefaction of biomass at 300°C increases the energy content by about 30% as compared to the raw biomass. For example, when torrefied, the calorific value of the biomass increases from about 18–19 MJ/kg to about 20–24 MJ/kg. The torrefied material has a moisture content of about 1–3% wet basis (w.b.). The loss of the hydroxyl group during torrefaction makes the biomass hydrophobic. The brittle nature of the torrefied biomass makes it easier to grind. The devolatilization and carbonization reactions change the proximate and ultimate composition. The carbon content increases, whereas the hydrogen, oxygen, and nitrogen content of the biomass decreases. Despite its superior properties, the commercialization of torrefaction technology is slow due to challenges associated with reactor design and final product quality. The different types of reactors that are typically used for biomass torrefaction are the fixed bed, rotary drum, microwave, fluidized bed, and horizontal and vertical moving bed. The moving bed reactor has gained popularity among the different torrefaction reactor designs as it is easy to operate and scale. In addition, it helps produce a uniform torrefied product. In this paper, different moving bed torrefaction and gas recycle concepts are conceptualized to assess the features, advantages, and disadvantages of various design and operating concepts. These designs include example concepts for: 1) vertical and horizontal torrefaction reactors; 2) recycle of all or a portion of the torrefier off-gas; 3) counter and co-flowing gas and biomass in the torrefier; 4) controls for the system temperatures, pressures, flow rates, and gas compositions; and 5) the ability to sample the biomass feed, torrefied product, and gas streams for analysis as needed to investigate the thermal decomposition, physical behavior, and operational performance of the torrefaction system. The article also briefly describes the solid feed system, gas supply and recycle system, solid product management, torrefier gas monitoring, control system, and fugitive dust emissions control. The model presented in this paper includes a set of equations for basic calculations to configure the torrefaction reactor dimensions, such as diameter and height of the moving bed torrefier for different capacities based on target and calculated solids and gas velocities, residence times, and temperatures.

Wheat is one of the most important cereals in the world and the bread made of its flour belongs to the everyday life of human  mankind. The Hungarian standard relating to the laboratory production of wheat flour (MSZ 6367/9-1989) does not mention the type of laboratory mill used for milling, and it only builds up some general criteria, such as: the laboratory mill should be provided  with four differently nicked barrels, a sieve with appropriate hole sizes, and also with the separated collections of the pilot flour and the bran. Our study was started at this point and the answers for the following questions were aimed to be found: do the flour patterns studied and produced with different sieving techniques, widely used in laboratory mills of the same wheat pattern show any alterations after the impact of the formula production as regards chemical constitutions. Various flours of the wheat pattern sieved with different particle sizes were studied in this experiment. In producing this pattern we used FQC109 type of mill. There were 5 different corn sizes of 250-200; 200-160; 160-125; 125-100; <100 μms used in the partition of the fractions. The results this research confirm that the quality of wheat flour can be modified by different methods of pattern production.
