The objective was to assess the prevalence of anemia and nutritional status of mothers and children under five years among Syrian refugees in Lebanon and to identify nutritional deficiencies among pregnant, lactating, and non-pregnant non-lactating (NPNLM) mothers. A cross-sectional study was conducted among Syrian refugee mothers with children under five years in Greater Beirut, Lebanon (n = 433). Data on socio-economic status, maternal health, lifestyle characteristics, dietary intake, anthropometric measurements, and hemoglobin concentrations were collected. The prevalence of anemia was 21.7% among mothers and 30.5% among children. NPNLM with overweight/obesity and an at-risk waist circumference (WC) had 14.7-times and 10.9-times higher odds of anemia than mothers with normal WC and weight. Children of anemic mothers had 2.7-times and 4.4-times higher odds of total and mild anemia than those of non-anemic. Higher odds of mild anemia were found among children of lactating mothers than of NPNLM. A high percent energy intake of total fat and sugar was found among all mothers. Nutritional inadequacy was identified in higher proportions of lactating and pregnant mothers than NPNLM. Our findings highlighted the co-existence of overnutrition and anemia among Syrian refugee mothers and undernutrition among children from the same household. Culture-specific interventions are needed to support maternal nutrition, to ensure the health and wellbeing of their offspring.

The problem of malnutrition in children under five is still a major health problem in the world, including Indonesia. Indonesia is a developing country that still faces considerable problems of malnutrition. Nutritional problems nationally are under-five and under-nutrition children under five. Poor nutritional status is a condition of the body experiencing nutritional deficiencies or below standard. Based on the nutritional status monitoring (PSG) survey in Probolinggo District, there was an increase in cases of malnutrition, obtained in the prevalence of non-compliance with the weight per year in 2017 of 9.44%, an increase compared to 2016, namely 8.65% under-five children under five. Toddlers are considered the biggest nutritional risk because patterns of poor feeding have an impact on growth and development. This causes the toddler age group to increase the risk of morbidity and mortality. Based on a preliminary study in April 2018, data was obtained that Probolinggo was ranked second in the area of malnutrition in East Java. In 2017 there are 130 toddlers who experience malnutrition in the Kalibuntu Coast of Probolinggo Regency. The cause of malnutrition is due to the pattern and intake of toddlers' food which contains less nutrition. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of nutritional support programs on feeding patterns and nutritional status of the Kalibuntu Coastal Children in Probolinggo Regency. This research is an experimental study, namely by measuring the increase / comparison of feeding patterns and nutritional status before and after the nutrition companion program. The population in this study were all toddlers with malnutrition in the Kalibuntu Coast of 130 people in Probolinggo Regency. Sampling uses Total Sampling. Samples are all mothers who have underweight and malnourished children under the age of 130 people in the Kalibuntu Coast of Probolinggo Regency. Data collection using observation sheets and interviews. Analysis of univariate data using frequency distribution, bivariate analysis using Wilcoxon match paired test and multivariate analysis using multiple linear regression then drawn conclusions. The results of the Wilcoxon match paired test between nutritional companions on feeding patterns obtained a p value of 0,000 <α 0,05, so ha was accepted so that there was an effect of nutritional companion on feeding patterns. The value of Exp (B) in the logistic regression analysis of eating parenting has a value of 85.008, which means that parenting has a chance of 85,008 times to change. While the nutritional status variable in multiple logistic regression has an Exp (B) value of 3.663, from these results it can be explained that nutritional status has an opportunity to increase 3.663 times.

ABSTRACTBackground: Children under five years of age are included  in group of nutrition’s susceptible. They are on growth and development cycle which need a huge nutrient. The aim of this study is to understand the relationship between mother’s participation levels in posyandu and nutritional status of children under five years of age.Method: Study of analitical observation with cross sectional was used. Subject was a mother in Cangkiran, having children aged between 12-59 month. Subject was taken with proportional stratified random sampling technique. Mother’s participation in posyandu was taken from health care staff’s data, protein and energy intake were taken from food recall 3x24 hours, and nutritional status of children under five years of age was compared with Z-score of WHO 2005. Data was analyzed using Rank-Spearman and partial correlation used SPSS for Windows 19.0 software.Result: Approximately 56,4% of subjects have active participation’s levels in posyandu. Much of the children under five years of age from those have 80,6% good nutritional status (WAZ), 67,7% normal (WHZ), 61,3% normal (HAZ), and 61,3% normal (BMIAZ). There is a relationship mother’s participation levels in posyandu with nutritional status children under five years of age based on WAZ            (p = 0,030 ;  r = 0,651) but not for WHZ (p = 0,998 ;  r = 0,000), HAZ (p = 0,163 ; r = 0,191), and BMIAZ (p = 0,689 ; r = -0,055). This realtionship is also controlled by sufficient levels of energy             (p = 0,047 ;  r = 0,639) and protein (p = 0,003 ; r = 0,823).Conclusion: Increased participation levels of  mother’s in posyandu enhances nutritional status of children under five years of age (based on WAZ). This case is also influenced by sufficient levels of energy and protein.Keyword: mother’s participation levels, posyandu, nutritional status, children under five years of age

Kata kunci: cross sectional study, random sampling, status gizi, ISPA, pneumonia     ABSTRACT The age groups that are particularly vulnerable to nutritional status are groups of children aged 1 - 5 years. The nutritional status of children under five is directly related to consumption pattern and infectious diseases. Illnesses related to environmental condition may include diarrhea, upper respiratory tract infections (ISPA), and pneumonia. The low nutritional status of children under five can increase the incidence of illness in toddlers. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship of nutrition to disease incidence in children aged 12 - 60 months. The method used is descriptive approach with cross sectional study design. The research population is all children under five in Batur Village, Getasan Subdistrict, Semarang Regency which follow Balita Posyandu weighing spread in 19 hamlets.Sampling was done by random sampling with the respondents of the researchwere mothers who have children aged 12 - 60 months with less nutritional status. Data obtained from the sample source as many as 35 children under-five with less nutritional status. Factors that affect nutritional status include maternal age, education, occupation, toddler eating habits, and the physical environment of the house. Problems Nutrition is less closely related to the incidence of disease in toddlers, but the condition of fever, coughs, and colds are often experienced by toddlers that indicate symptoms of upper respiratory tract infections. Cases of underweight status of children under five in Batur village are still considered high in terms of weighing in September 2017 of 10.29%.   Keywords: cross sectional study, random sampling, nutritional status, ISPA,pneumonia
