Investigations in cartilage biology have been hampered by the limited capacity of chondrocytes, especially in rats and humans, to be efficiently transfected. Liposomes are a promising delivery system due to their lipid bilayer structure similar to a biological membrane. Here we used natural rapeseed lecithin, which contains a high level of mono- and poly-unsaturated fatty acids, to evaluate the cytocompatibility of these phospholipids as future potential carriers of biomolecules in joint regenerative medicine. Results show that appropriate concentrations of nanoliposome rapeseed lecithin under 500 µg/mL were safe for chondrocytes and did not induce any alterations of their phenotype. Altogether, these results sustain that they could represent a novel natural carrier to deliver active substances into cartilage cells.

Physical characterization of a soymilk powder was carried out by electron microscopy. Chemical characterization was analyzed by proximate analysis, mineral composition by atomic absorption spectrometry, fatty acid composition by gas chromatography and protein composition by electrophoresis. The powder consists of large granules of 60—80 μm, which may be hollow, with smaller granules of 10—20 μm attached to them. Powder particles are covered by a layer of fat. During storage at 25 °C fat is spreading over the surface, while at —12 °C the fat is contracting. This change affected chemical stability, resulting in high level of fat oxidation when stored at 4 °C or 25 °C as well as a decrease in unsaturated fatty acids. Storage also affected the chemical properties of the re-constituted soymilk; the pH of a 12% soy powder suspension increased from 6.68±0.05 to 7.06±0.08 after 12 months of storage. Storage temperature did not affect the pH of the suspension and this change could also not be ascribed to protein aggregation.

This paper describes a design of a fry counter intended to be used by consuming fish farmer. Along this time, almost all the fry counting process is counted by manual, which is done by a human. It is requiring much energy and needs high concentration; thus, can cause a high level of exhaustion for the fry counting worker. Besides that, the human capability and capacity of counting are limited to a low level. A fry counter design in this study utilizes a multi-channel optocoupler sensor to increase the counting capacity. The multi-channel fry counter counting system is developed as a solution to a limited capacity of available fry counter. This design uses an input signal extender system on controller including the interrupt system. From the experiment, high accuracy level is obtained on the counting and channel detection, therefore, this design can be implemented and could help farmers to increase the production capacity of consuming fish.

Показана необходимость обеспечения нормативной документацией СО2-экстрактов с целью повышения объективности оценки их качества. Объектом исследований были три образца комплексного СО2-экстракта плодов шиповника и боярышника (фирма «Явента», г. Краснодар). Процентное соотношение масс плодов шиповника и боярышника в исходном сырье составило соответственно 70 : 30. Определены основные органолептические и физико-химические показатели комплексного СО2-экстракта плодов шиповника и боярышника: кислотное число, эфирное число, перекисное число, массовая доля эфирного масла. Величина показателя перекисного числа образца комплексного СО2-экстракта плодов шиповника и боярышника составила 6,8 мэкв/кг и может служить идентификационным признаком подлинности экстракта. Установлено наличие в составе исследованного комплексного СО2-экстракта плодов шиповника и боярышника биологически активных веществ: каротиноидов, токоферолов, ненасыщенных жирных кислот, флавоноидов, терпеновых соединений, подтверждающих целесообразность его использования в рецептурах косметических средств. The necessity to provide normative documentation of CO2-extracts with the aim of increasing the objectivity of assessment of their quality is shown. Three samples of complex CO2-extract of rose hips and hawthorn (firma “Yaventa”, Krasnodar) have been the object of research. The percentage masses of rose hips and hawthorn in the feedstock was accordingly 70 : 30. Main organoleptic and physico-chemical characteristics of complex CO2-extract of rose hips and hawthorn – acid value, ester value, peroxide value, mass fraction of essential oil determined. Values of peroxide value of a sample of complex CO2-extract of rose hips and hawthorn amounted to 6,8 mEq/kg and may serve as identification of the authenticity of the extract. The presence of studied complex CO2-extract of rose hips and hawthorn of biologically active substances: carotenoids, tocopherols, unsaturated fatty acids, flavonoids, terpene compounds, confirming the feasibility of its use in formulations of cosmetic products, was installed.

The body's ability to produce prostacyclin and thromboxane by blood vessels and platelets may be important in hemostatic and thrombotic disorders and in blood pressure regulation. There are limitations to the information that can be derived from measurement of the active substances or metabolites in plasma and urine. Assays for thromboxane and prostacyclin in bleeding time blood reflect production in response to a single standardized vascular injury, and show considerable promise in furthering our understanding of the production of these chemicals in vivo. These assays may improve the assessment of risk of developing thrombotic disorders and improve the ability to monitor treatment. Studies to date have focused largely on the influences of various doses of aspirin on the production of prostacyclin and thromboxane in bleeding time blood, but also suggest that smokers are high thromboxane producers. In addition, individuals who exhibit type A behavior, a behavior pattern characterized by a relatively high level of ambitiousness, hostility, and competitive drive and a chronic sense of urgency appear to be low prostacyclin producers. Diets enriched in sunflower oil were found to diminish thromboxane production, while diets high in canola oil enhanced prostacyclin formation.Key words: bleeding disorders, thrombotic disorders, prostacyclin, thromboxane, bleeding time.

Disinfection measures in the event of an outbreak of epidemics created by natural and artificial causes are connected with high consumption of disinfectants, especially in anthrax foci. This does not exclude the situation, when the stock of authorized disinfectants may turn out to be insufficient. So it will be necessary to use non-authorized disinfectants. The aim of this paper is to reveal among the disinfectants, registered in Russia, the most convenient to use by the NBC Protection Troops in epidemic emergencies. 770 such disinfectants have been analyzed. It is established, that the disinfectants of the group of cationic surfactants (CPAS) based on quaternary ammonium compounds, amines, polyguanidines and compositions of these active substances in various combinations have been introduced into practice of Russian medical institutions for almost two decades. The analysis of the scientific literature and the results of our own experiments show that the solutions of these disinfectants, recommended for high-level sterilization and disinfection of medical devices, do not have any sporicidal effect. Because of that, only disinfectants based on chlorine-containing and oxygen-containing active substances can be interesting for the NBC Protection Troops and may be used as non-authorized disinfectants. The solutions of such agents have a wide range of antimicrobial action and provide complete death of not only bacteria, viruses and fungi, but also spores of various bacilli, at temperatures below 0 oС as well. The most convenient in use by the NBC Protection Troops are the products in the form of instant tablets based on sodium dichloroisocyanuric acid, as well as in the form of liquid concentrates based on hydrogen peroxide or peracetic acid. Because of that the above mentioned agents should be used by the NBC Protection Troops in cases of biological emergencies according to the regimes of standard approved disinfectants

YAP and TAZ were initially described as the main regulators of organ growth during development and more recently implicated in bone biology. YAP and TAZ are regulated by mechanical and cytoskeletal cues that lead to the control of cell fate in response to the cellular microenvironment. The mechanical component represents a major signal for bone tissue adaptation and remodelling, so YAP/TAZ contributes significantly in bone and cartilage homeostasis. Recently, mice and cellular models have been developed to investigate the precise roles of YAP/TAZ in bone and cartilage cells, and which appear to be crucial. This review provides an overview of YAP/TAZ regulation and function, notably providing new insights into the role of YAP/TAZ in bone biology.

The VNIISPK black and red currant collection was studied for the content of biological active substances in berries, including ascorbic acid (vitamin C) and phenol compounds (vitamin P). The results of the study for the period of 1990-2015 are given. 256 black currant varieties, elite and selective seedlings and 103 red currant varieties, elite and selected seedlings were studied. Genotypes with a high level of characters on study were allocated for use in target crossings for fruit chemical composition improvement. The varieties , elite and selected seedlings of VNIISPK breeding were picked out as recommended sources of those characters, including black currants Desertnaya Ogoltzovoy, Muravushka, Nadina, Orlovskaya Serenada and red currants Marmeladnitza, Niva, Podarok Pobediteliam and Ustina having high contents of ascorbic acid in berries; black currants Arapka, Yershistaya, Zusha, Nadina, Nura, Ekzotica and red currant Osipovskaya having a high level of anthocyanins; black currants Yershistaya, Zusha, Nadina, Orlovia and Yubiley Orla with a high content of catechols; black currants Gamma, Gratzia, Lentiay, Orlovsky Vals and red currants Asya, Podarok Pobediteliam and Selianochka with a high level of leucoanthocyanins; black currants Yershistaya, Yubiley Orla and red currants Asya, Podarok Pobediteliam and Selianochka with a high sum of P-active substances in berries.

ABSTRACTCell-cell signaling inXylella fastidiosahas been implicated in the coordination of traits enabling colonization in plant hosts as well as insect vectors. This cell density-dependent signaling has been attributed to a diffusible signaling factor (DSF) produced by the DSF synthase RpfF. DSF produced by related bacterial species are unsaturated fatty acids, but that ofX. fastidiosawas thought to be different from those of other taxa. We describe here the isolation and characterization of anX. fastidiosaDSF (XfDSF) as 2(Z)-tetradecenoic acid. This compound was isolated both from recombinantErwinia herbicolaexpressingX. fastidiosa rpfFand from anX. fastidiosa rpfCdeletion mutant that overproduces DSF. Since anrpfFmutant is impaired in biofilm formation and underexpresses the hemagglutinin-like protein-encoding geneshxfAandhxfB, we demonstrate that these traits can be restored by ca. 0.5 µMXfDSF but not by myristic acid, the fully saturated tetradecenoic acid. AphoA-basedX. fastidiosabiosensor that assesses DSF-dependent expression ofhxfAorhxfBrevealed a high level of molecular specificity of DSF signaling.IMPORTANCEX. fastidiosacauses diseases in many important plants, including grape, where it incites Pierce’s disease. Virulence ofX. fastidiosafor grape is coordinated by cell-cell signaling molecules, designated DSF (Diffusible Signaling Factor). Mutants blocked in DSF production are hypervirulent for grape, suggesting that virulence is suppressed upon DSF accumulation and that disease could be controlled by artificial elevation of the DSF level in plants. In this work, we describe the isolation of the DSF produced byX. fastidiosaand the verification of its biological activity as an antivirulence factor. We also have developedX. fastidiosaDSF biosensors to evaluate the specificity of cell-cell signaling to be investigated.
