Urban development and changing the patterns of industry and agriculture had caused the foremost spatial and functional transformations of the post-communist period in Romania. These changes have resulted in increased land consumption, often including the reuse of abandoned or non-residential built-up areas (e.g., industrial, agricultural). By integrating spatial and statistical data, the current analysis has revealed as key features: spatial shrinkage, fragmentation, functional diversification, tertiarization and change of patterns. Using a functional change matrix, five main (re)use types have been identified and quantified: maintenance, conversion, replacement, abandonment, and demolition. Overall, between 1990 and 2018, over 50% functional losses have been recorded.

The article attempts to determine «the place formula» for four small cities of the Tver region – Toropets, Kalyazin, Bezhetsk and Bologoye. In the scientifi literature, the phrase «place formula» fi appeared and conceptually took shape, probably in the article by A.I. Zyryanov, published in the journal «Regional’nye issledovanija» in 2013. The theoretical framework of this concept is the classical concept of economic-geographical position (EGP). The identifi of the key features of the EGP of these small cities based on the fi research with using local historical information and statistical data. The studied cities are different in their history, location, performed functions and role in the space of the region. Several positions were chosen as the key characteristics that were included in the formulation of the main properties of the place: natural features, transport accessibility and density, metropolitan position, and centrality. The main features of the EGP, which formed the basis of the «geographical formula» for the selected small cities of the Tver region, are as follows: for Toropets – remoteness and borderline, for Kalyazin – location on the Volga and proximity to the Moscow region, for Bezhetsk – its existence as a center of agriculturally developed and densely populated territory, for Bologoye – its functioning as a railway junction between the two Russian capitals. For a city, and especially for a small one, the articulation and translation of its “formula” can become the basis for a long-term development strategy.

Started from analyzing the resource characteristic of Xian cultural ruins and great heritage sites classification, through the review on important sites protection and their functional evolution in main urban districts of Xian, summarized three kinds of relationships between urban development layout and great heritage sites of Xian, they are: the site surrounded or covered by built-up areas; the site located in the outlying regions of city; and the site located in the urban development and construction regions. Furthermore, analyzed the discrepancy of environmental requirements of different heritage site, put forward three kinds of spatial pattern models of site area and adjacent development region, then analyzed the interactive relationship between each other.

The paper discusses the trend of ongoing land consumption in German cities and their implications for socially inclusive and ecological urban development models. Highlighting how land use in Germany has changed since 1990, we focus on housing and mobility ‐ the two sectors that have had the most impact on land consumption nationwide. Our analysis of ten demographically growing cities in Germany shows land consumption to be driven not only by demo-graphic growth itself, but also by modes of living and transportation that are exclusive to certain privileged groups. In the cities we studied, these developments would seem to benefit the few, but affect the lives of everyone. Based on these results, we sketch out various ideas and approaches that could support a socially inclusive and ecological urban development policy. Supporting a cultural shift from a private luxury model to one based on public welfare is crucial to reducing land consumption and ensuring that all members of the population can gain access to “the good life”.

This paper aims to highlight the impact that the labor force in the agricultural sector has on the production obtained from the main crops in the South-Muntenia development region, Romania, in the period 2014-2018. Following the study of theoretical aspects in the fields mentioned above and combining these studies with the interpretation and analysis of statistical data, an analysis will be established to establish the level at which the agricultural labor force in the South-Muntenia region impacts the productions of five important crops. Romanian agricultural sector, respectively: wheat, corn, sunflower, rapeseed and soybeans. In the South-Muntenia region, made up of Argeș, Călărași, Dâmbovița, Giurgiu, Ialomița, Prahova and Teleorman counties, the percentage of people working in the agricultural sector in 2018 was 27.8% of the total population of this region.

AbstractWhen observing the development and operation of modern cities, one can quickly come to the conclusion that in the recent years the chief factor of the spatial-structural transformation of cities in Poland (though not only there) and the spatial behaviour of their residents has been motorisation, and more precisely, the car. This is so because the car, while facilitating and intensifying mobility, makes it possible to draw places of residence apart from those of goal implementation. The ever-growing number of cars moving around a city leads to disturbances in street traffic, makes the service of residents worse, causes many road accidents, and brings about unfavourable qualitative changes in the environment. That is why in many recent conceptions of urban development there appear measures intended to restrict the use of cars, which is one of the ways leading to the construction of ‘a city for people’. This paper presents the effect of motorisation on modern cities as documented by statistical data concerning Poznań, one of the largest and oldest Polish cities.

Gauguin (Grouping And Using Glyphs Uncovering Individual Nuances) is statistical data visualization software for the interactive graphical exploration of multivariate data using glyph representations. Glyphs are defined as geometric shapes scaled by the values of multivariate data. Each glyph represents one high-dimensional data point or the prototype (average) of a group or cluster of data points. This paper reviews the capabilities, functionality, and interactive properties of this software package. Key features of Gauguin are illustrated with data from the Programme for International Student Assessment.

On 27 January 1969 the list of urban heritage in Lithuania was officially declared, and therefore 62 cities and towns, with the exception of S˘iauliai, were given the status of local Lithuanian urban values. In 1980 the revised list of Lithuanian urban heritage again disregarded S˘iauliai. But the analysis of the current situation, estimating demands of urban development, has demonstrated the existence of a very clear historic urban structure in Šiauliai, which can be regarded as a valuable urban heritage territory. A lot of scientific research projects, urban planning documents, architectural and urban competitions strengthened an urban heritage argument with facts. The ways of legitimating an urban heritage status are obvious. The potential of urban development in the central part of S˘iauliai is enormous, but a balance between urban de- veploment and urban heritage conservation and preservation is also very important. The paper applies scientific statistical data and information received from the urban concept of Šiauliai and the analysis of the current urban structure. The information of the paper can be applied for creating a recommendable indicator system and urban development principles during the detailed planning process in Šiauliai. Santrauka 1969 m. sausio 27 d.

Interaction and transgression zones are the buffer zones between urban development area and conservation area. In Turkey, regulations do not draw the quantitative approach to interaction and transgression zones, that conservation area borders create sharp passes. In order to smooth these passes, this research was planned. Regulations are very rigid written rules; however, in order to keep pace with contemporary world, they need to be adaptive in the 21st century. Thus, this research aims to be respectful to historic sites and proposes smoother passes to urban development areas. In order to adopt, any historical site parameters should come from common features of towns. Another point to understand the characteristic of a town is statistical data for each parameter. In order to blend the statistical data with parameters, k-means clustering method is used. This method gives the distribution of each categorical data into the main clustering. As a result, the algorithm gives flow of flexible rules in order to apply development in the interaction and transgression zones.
