Colored industrial wastewater is a threat in many environmental aspects. As such, there is a need to find more effective methods for its purification. This article presents a brief overview of available methods for removing dyes from aqueous solutions, among them the adsorption process, which is the subject of this study. The course of preliminary tests on the process of cleaning dye solutions in the adsorption process is presented. Unmodified magnetite and magnetite modified with polymers were used as adsorbents. The synthesis of particular types of magnetite, the adsorption process, as well as the methods of further analyzes are described. As part of the work, the focus was put on a comparison of the effectiveness of the purification process for different types of adsorbents in relation to selected dyes. The varied conditions of the process were also analyzed. It has been shown that magnetite is an adsorbent that is easy to use, allowing effective separation of dyes of various chemical structures from aqueous solutions. The effectiveness of the process depends on the type of dye and on the pH value and can be increased in relation to some dyes by using magnetite modification with selected polymers.

The potential usage of zeolites as adsorbents for the removal of organic molecules from water was investigated in a series of experiments with aqueous solutions of lower alcohols. This could represent a simple solution to the problem of cleaning up industrial wastewater as well as recovering valuable chemicals at relatively low costs. Adsorption isotherms of the Langmuir type were applied, and calculations showed that the amount of propanol adsorbed on silicalite corresponded to approximately 70% of the pore volume. The adsorption process is simple, and recovery of the more concentrated products is easily done by heat treatment and/or at lowered pressures. Adsorption experiments with aqueous acetone showed that silicalite had approximately the same adsorption capacity for acetone as for n-propanol. Heats of adsorption were determined calorimetrically.

Abstract Hybrid adsorbents (ES) were prepared with mixing of eggshell and sericite as binders, and Pb(II) was removed from aqueous solutions. Sericite has the advantage of not only serving as a binder for hybrid adsorbent but also having a negative charge on the surface to improve the removal efficiency of heavy metals. Various parameters affecting the removal of Pb(II) from aqueous solutions were investigated using the optimal conditions derived. In addition, adsorption kinetics, adsorption isotherms and thermodynamic analyses were performed using the experimental results of each parameter. The ES had a more specific surface area and porosity than sericite or eggshell and contained a large number of OH groups favoring heavy metal adsorption. As a result of the adsorption of Pb(II) using the ES, the adsorption process was physical and suitable for the Freundlich isotherm. In addition, the adsorption process of Pb(II) by the ES was a spontaneous endothermic reaction. The ES can quickly reach the adsorption equilibrium and strong adsorption strength. In addition, the CaOH contained in the ES can neutralize the pH of wastewater, and it is possible to treat heavy metal ions in industrial wastewater and acid mine wastewater without controlling the pH. ES adsorbents using waste eggshells are very economic because they recycle what would otherwise be waste and have great significance in terms of resource reuse.

Industrial wastewater including dye waste disposal, has been released in a massive amount and is difficult to degrade, especially synthetic dyes. In this study, 10 different types of fungi were isolated from a decayed wood in UTM forest and were labelled as S1-S10. Two dyes were chosen for this study, which were Procion Red MX-5B (PRMX5B) and Remazol Brilliant Violet 5R (RBV5R). These fungi were screened for their ability to decolor both dyes and further tested for their ability to decolor the dyes in liquid medium under several parameters; carbon and nitrogen sources, initial pH value, temperature, and agitation. S1 decolorized PRMX5B efficiently with the addition of glucose (45%), ammonium nitrate (61%), pH 3 (69%), temperature 37°C (49%), and agitation 100 rpm (69%), whereas S2 decolorized efficiently with the addition of glucose (60%), ammonium nitrate (49%), pH 3 (70%), temperature 37°C (46%), and agitation 100 rpm (74%). S1 demonstrated efficient decolorization of RBV5R with the addition of glucose (80%), ammonium nitrate (62%), pH 3, temperature 37°C (75%), and agitation 100 rpm (90%), whereas S2 demonstrated efficient decolorization with the addition of glucose (52%), ammonium nitrate (67%), pH 3, temperature 37°C (75%), and agitation 100 rpm (71%).The percentage of decolorization of dyes was measured by using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer. These fungi were then identified using the 18sr RNA method. Based on macroscopic and microscopic characteristics and a polygenetic tree, fungi S1 belong to Trichoderma koningiopsis and fungi S2 belong to Trichoderma atroviride.

It is well known that the large deviations from stoichiometry in iron sulfide compounds, Fe1-xS (0≤x≤0.125), are accommodated by iron vacancies which order and form superstructures at low temperatures. Although the ordering of the iron vacancies has been well established, the modes of vacancy ordering, hence superstructures, as a function of composition and temperature are still the subject of much controversy. This investigation gives direct evidence from many-beam lattice images of Fe1-xS that the 4C superstructure transforms into the 3C superstructure (Fig. 1) rather than the MC phase as previously suggested. Also observed are an intrinsic stacking fault in the sulfur sublattice and two different types of vacancy-ordering antiphase boundaries. Evidence from selective area optical diffractograms suggests that these planar defects complicate the diffraction pattern greatly.

Drawings, illustrations, and field sketches play an important role in Earth Science since they are used to record field observations, develop interpretations, and communicate results in reports and scientific publications. Drawing geology in the field furthermore facilitates observation and maximizes the value of fieldwork. Every geologist, whether a student, academic, professional, or amateur enthusiast, will benefit from the ability to draw geological features accurately. This book describes how and what to draw in geology. Essential drawing techniques, together with practical advice in creating high quality diagrams, are described the opening chapters. How to draw different types of geology, including faults, folds, metamorphic rocks, sedimentary rocks, igneous rocks, and fossils, are the subjects of separate chapters, and include descriptions of what are the important features to draw and describe. Different types of sketch, such as drawings of three-dimensional outcrops, landscapes, thin-sections, and hand-specimens of rocks, crystals, and minerals, are discussed. The methods used to create technical diagrams such as geological maps and cross-sections are also covered. Finally, modern techniques in the acquisition and recording of field data, including photogrammetry and aerial surveys, and digital methods of illustration, are the subject of the final chapter of the book. Throughout, worked examples of field sketches and illustrations are provided as well as descriptions of the common mistakes to be avoided.
