Common to the construction industry, distinct parties of different backgrounds and disciplines were assembled to complete a project. Despite being unfamiliar and sharing little in common except the project’s goal, this ad-hoc syndicate was expected to effectively communicate the expectation of the project’s stakeholders. While it was possible for project parties to get along and gradually form an effective relationship, contrasting interests and values were the norms, which resulted in conflicting attitudes and behaviour. Among the most critical constituents of a successful relationship, trust was identified as the fundamental building block to allay conflict or cushioning its impacts it. Through advancements in project management thinking in recent times were able to offer pragmatic solutions to relationship issues in construction, it appeared that digital transformation was not widely inculcated in the approaches. Against this backdrop, this paper aimed to gain insightful disclosure on digital development that promotes and accelerates trust-building in different contexts. This is methodically carried out by identifying and reviewing 100 pieces of relevant literature from the Scopus database, followed by deductive content analysis to observe the interplay between digital development and trust in a wider context. The analyses revealed two types of digital approaches having bright prospects for infusion in construction which are Gamification and Virtual Reality (VR). The outcome from this analysis provides the much-needed departing point for humanizing digital development in construction and signifies a paradigm shift in dealing with trust issues in construction.

The need for an innovative digital transformation of the construction industry is beyond doubt. However, it is fraught with a number of objective constraints, which requires the development of appropriate holistic science-based approaches and an effective practical methodology. Based on the systematization of the specifics of digitalization of the construction industry, analysis of the achieved level of innovative digital development, study of existing experience and institutional trends, the authors postulated a change management methodology as one of the key conceptual approaches to effective planning and management of digital transformation of construction. The life cycle of changes was modified on the basis of the design-process approach, and the corresponding practical assessment was carried out using the example of the implementation of information modeling technology in construction.

The digital development of construction is an important task, the achievement of which will lead to a more comfortable life for citizens, to an increase in the manufacturability of the construction business and more efficient management of urban planning activities by state bodies. The relevance of the introduction of digital technologies in construction is determined by a set of tasks that are set taking into account the development of the entire digital economy of the country. Currently, the government of the country has organized full-scale activities to achieve digital maturity of economic sectors. This article analyzes the digital transformation of the construction industry, examines state goals and tools to achieve them in the field of digitalization of construction. Problems of innovative development of the construction industry require the integrated implementation of digital technologies in solving various problems in the production of building materials, construction design and construction production itself. The main purpose of the study is to analyze the digital transformation of the technical customer's work at the stages of the life cycle of a capital construction object - pre-design, design, construction stage, overhaul, reconstruction, demolition, as well as separately the stage of restoration of a cultural heritage object. When analyzing the activities of a technical customer in the context of the digital transformation of the country's construction industry, at each stage of the life cycle of a capital construction object, the procedures and necessary services that have passed into electronic form are considered in relation to the conditions of the city of Moscow, and important tasks that require the fastest digitalization are highlighted.

This article is dedicated to the assessment of current state of “digital space” of the Eurasian integration and prospects for its development. Based on the parallel analysis of political legal sources, international and domestic statistics, various indexes, as well as relevant literature, the author aims to demonstrate the achievements and difficulties in implementation of the digital agenda of the Eurasian Economic Union, and outline possible causes thereof. For solution of the research tasks, the author employs the results of monitoring of digital development processes of the EAEU, comparative approaches, as well as the general scientific methods of analysis, synthesis, hypotheses, etc. The conducted analysis demonstrates that despite the promotion of digital transformation on the domestic level by all EAEU member-states, the establishment of the single Eurasian digital space is slowing down. The conclusion is drawn on the disparity of political-legal (formal) and actual realities in promoting the project of the Eurasian digital integration. The comparison of relevant data of the Eurasian Economic Commission and Eurasian Development Bank and domestic statistics indicates that the GDP annual growth rate in the EAEU member-states due to the digital transition currently does not exceed 0.1%, which casts doubt on the possibility of achieving the key indicators established by the main vectors of implementation of digital agenda of the EAEU.  The author underlines the importance for consolidation of the “analogous” foundations of digital transformation, measures for boosting confidence, expansion of the number of stakeholders of the Eurasian project, and development of the mechanisms for interaction on all levels, including ordinary citizens, who are the major participants and beneficiaries of the digital transition.

The processes of digital transformation, reaching global scales of development and dissemination affect not only communication technologies, but also have a transformative impact on all spheres of social and legal interaction. Thus, cyberspace mechanisms are part of the modern electronic document flow. Electronic digital signature is currently a widespread product of digital development of society. Until now, it has been generally assumed that it has the characteristics of a high degree of legal reliability and security. The authors of the article, analyzing the practice of offenses in the field of electronic digital signature, question this argument. Noting the weaknesses of the mechanism for confirming authorship by an authorized person with the help of cryptographically-converted by electronic encryption of the document details, they suggest possible ways to resolve existing issues in this area of social and legal interaction at the present stage. Mandatory presence of the person, either in person or online, with video recording and identification.

This chapter examines the conditions under which lustration and truth commissions affected trust in targeted public institutions, such as the judiciary, the parliament, the police, and political parties, or composites of institutions, such as oversight institutions or elected institutions. I find strong and consistent relationships between lustration and political trust, except for the most highly politicized public institutions. More extensive and compulsory programs were associated with the largest trust-building effects. Truth commissions were not associated with political trust-building. This chapter also demonstrates that delayed reforms were more effective than reforms initiated right after the transition for most of the institutions, except for highly politicized institutions. This runs contrary to assumptions about the necessity of starting reforms immediately after the transition or not at all. The chapter presents the paired cases of Bulgaria and Romania and illustrates the possibilities for public disclosure programs to effect lustration-like reforms.

The use of digital technologies such as Internet of Things and advanced data analytics are central in digitally transforming manufacturing companies towards Industry 4.0. Success cases are frequently reported, and there is clear evidence of technology interventions conducted by industry. However, measuring the impact and effect of such interventions on digital maturity and on the organizational adoption can be challenging. Therefore, the research aim of this paper is to explore how the combination of the different methods of Industrial Internet Playground (IIP) pilots, Shadow Infrastructure (SI) and digital maturity assessment can assist in conducting and documenting the technical, as well as organisational, impact of digital interventions. Through an elaborate literature review of existing digital maturity assessment tools and key dimensions in digital transformation, we have developed a digital maturity assessment tool (DMAT), which is presented and applied in the paper to identify digital development areas and to evaluate and document the effects of digital interventions. Thus, the paper contributes with new knowledge of how the IIP pilot and SI combined with digital maturity assessment can support effective, transparent and documented digital transformation throughout an organisation, as explored through theory and a practice case.

Digital transformation provokes a great deal of uncertainty among employees. To gain insights into how employees manage the uncertainty driven by digital transformation and also how leaders can support them, this study has drawn on the theory of communication and uncertainty management (TCUM), which posits that the impact of uncertainty varies by how individuals appraise it and social support enhances positive appraisal. Based on those tenets, the current study advanced the following hypotheses: (a) uncertainty has direct and indirect negative effects on employees’ appraisal of digital transformation, self-efficacy, and job performance; (b) in contrast, direct supervisors’ transformational leadership has direct and indirect positive effects on appraisal, self-efficacy, and job performance; and also (c) transformational leadership moderates the impact of uncertainty. SEM with 4-wave time-separated data ( N = 873 employee-supervisor dyads in Japan) found support for these hypotheses. The obtained findings are discussed with reference to TCUM, transformational leadership, and other relevant literature.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explore the current state of popular modern methods of construction (MMC) and pre-manufactured construction in the construction industry and propose a framework for future implications for practice and future research. Design/methodology/approach This technical paper is based on a narrative review of the extant literature on the subject. First, the Scopus search engine was used to retrieve relevant papers on MMC, offsite and pre-manufactured construction. Second, institutional literature such as reports by industry professional and trade bodies, literature from leading technology firms and contractors with experience of MMC were extracted. These two strands of literature were synthesised and a comprehensive discussion on the topic was provided. Findings Results show that journal publications on MMC and pre-manufactured construction have increased in the past decade. The paper found significant advances in the development of premanufactured and offsite construction approaches with many benefits. Offsite and pre-manufactured construction are viable and sustainable systems currently suitable for wider adoption as the mainstream construction method. Research limitations/implications This technical paper based on an integrative review of relevant literature could have benefitted from interviews of professionals with experience of offsite and pre-manufacture techniques and from wider availability of current academic publications on the subject. Validation of the framework has not been undertaken. Originality/value Not much-published work has been undertaken on the current state of development globally and the viability of these construction approaches. This paper evaluates evidence from academic and industry sources to address this gap. A framework has been developed which can help the industry’s industrialisation drive.

Since 2019, the Kaliningrad Region has run a regional programme for digital transformation as part of the national initiative The Digital Economy of the Russian Federation. The programme seeks to improve the quality of life by creating information infrastructure and streamlining public administration. The regional Ministry of Digital Development has presented a report on programme implementation, which placed emphasis on economic performance. The study employed the questionnaire survey method to carry out a sociological analysis of the regional population as a participant in digital transformation. Quota sampling was used to select 384 respondents. Slightly over a half of the population had a positive attitude to digitalisation, and about 20 per cent believed that the digital economy led to the degradation of society. The development of a high-tech economy was named the main advantage of digitalisation and proliferation of digital surveillance, its distinct disadvantage. Kaliningraders reported heavy use of digital technology. Yet, the low indices of digital literacy and personal information protection raise concerns. The findings, which supplement the regional digitalisation report with sociological data, may help in planning and delivering activities within the regional digital transformation programme.

Abstract: In Spain, the declaration of the state of alarm due to the Covid-19 pandemic, meant that between 14th of March and 2nd of May 2020, 47 million inhabitants were confined at home and could only go out to cover basic needs. This unprecedented event has led to a paradigm shift, and it is appropriate to analyze its impact on health, considering how it has affected the practice of physical activity. An ad hoc questionnaire was administered. The participants were 1046 people (48.57% male and 51.43% female) and the average age of 40 (± DT 13.35 years). Regarding the practice of physical activity, a significant decrease in intensity and quantity stands out (p < .001), and a modification of the type of physical activity performed, going from cardiovascular sports and muscular fitness to soft gymnastics and flexibility practices. The total percentage of people who did no physical activity at all, increased. In addition, although more free time was available, people in ERTE situation significantly decreased their amount of physical activity performed (p < .001). These results allow us to conclude that confinement has meant a modification of physical activity practice habits and a decrease in the recommended values of healthy healthy, and therefore has had implications on health and quality of life. This information will help to understand these new behaviors in order for managers to implement innovative strategies to reactivate the return to previous levels of physical activity, its increase and, in short, the reactivation of the sports sector.
