Kata kunci: Pakan, probiotik, laserpunktur, matang gonad, produksi benih   Abstract   The feed is one of the factors determining the success of a fish farming business. In general, farmers provide a commercial feed that can consume about 60-70% of the total cost of production. So this is an obstacle in the cultivation process. Therefore probiotics must be added to commercial feed to efficiently lower the amount of feed given. Probiotics added to this commercial feed contain several bacteria that can benefit because it can improve the balance of the intestinal microflora and its digestive power. While the induction of laserpuncture plays a role in stimulating the release of reproductive hormones and spawning catfish, so that when combined then the acceleration of the procurement of mature catfish brood gonad will be obtained immediately. The results showed that the administration of probiotics in commercial feed and catfish induced by laserpuncture before being colonized proved to have a significant effect (P<0.05) on the maturation of gonads of both female and male catfish. The results of this study were further disseminated to catfish farmers in the Winongan Lor village Pasuruan regency to accelerate the procurement of mature catfish brood gonad and ready to be spawned to produce seeds. The response from catfish farmers after getting training and mentoring is positive because it obtains new knowledge in the form of appropriate technology in accelerating the mother catfish mature gonad ready to be spawned.   Keywords: Feed, probiotics, laserpuncture, ripe gonad, seed production

The aim of this study was to evaluate the physiological, zootechnical, and environmental benefits of the use of growth-promoting virginiamycin in the pirarucu diet. The research was conducted at the Carlos Eduardo Matiazze Fish Center, Federal University of Rondônia. In this study, 96 pirarucu fish were distributed in excavated nursery, divided into two treatment groups, control (0.0 mg kg−1) and treatment (75.0 mg kg−1) of feed with virginiamycin, with 8 replications in a completely randomized design. With virginiamycin being incorporated into commercial feed, for 107 days of cultivation, the fish were slaughtered with an average weight of 9.18 kg. Carcass weight, flesh, residues, and internal organs/guts were evaluated to calculate slaughter yields, Spearman’s correlation, and subsequently regression. For the quantification of micronuclei, a count of 1,000 cells per blade was determined. The means of the results obtained were contrasted by the Student’s t-test (α = 0.05). Virginiamycin did not cause oscillations in the limnological variables of the nursery but could reduce micronucleated erythrocytes. The average yields in carcass, flesh, and waste were 67.43, 53.4, and 43.14%, respectively. Virginiamycin provided strong correlations (ρ2) for better productive yields and lower slaughter residue. The hepatosomatic index indicated a strong relationship between liver weight and fat. Virginiamycin may be recommended for fish farming in pirarucu fattening because it contributes to the productive efficiency and sustainability of the fish farm system.

THE ASPECTS OF BIOLOGY ANDEYE ABLATION ON SHRIMP Penaeus monodon PENAEIDAE (DECAPODA: MALACOSTRACA). A qood quality of seeds (fry) is a very important production component to support the shrimp farming activities in ponds. The quantity and quality of shrimp seeds are largely determined by hatchery products obtained from the quality of the broodstock used. The provision of the broodstock is the beginning of the seed production activities and is one of the factors that determines the quality and quantity of the production. The growing demand for mature gonad shrimp is a big problem for shrimp farmers, due to the ability of windu shrimp to spawn in the nature (ripe gonad naturally) takes relatively long time. Therefore, the eye ablation process can accelerate the process of gonad maturity. This article describes some aspects that should be understood in conducting windu shrimp farming as well as explanations of ablation process.

Formation of beluga brood stocks in artificial conditions whilst a catastrophic state of their natural populations is very timely and relevant. The method of domestication of wild beluga females after intravital obtaining roe was widely used in the Caspian basin, when it was still possible to catch sturgeons in the river. In the Astrakhan region, at the beginning of the current century, that method was considerably used in the formation of beluga brood stocks in cages and ponds after adaptation of fish to artificial conditions of rearing and feeding. At present, the roe obtained from domesticated beluga females is used both for seed production and for caviar production. In addition to studying the fish-breeding indicators of beluga females after obtaining roe, it was of interest to assess the economic efficiency in different farming conditions. The article presents comparative economic indicators of keeping beluga females until maturation in cages and ponds, assessed the total costs, sales income, profit, profitability. The fish-breeding indicators were taken as a basis: total eggs yield, body weight gain, fecundity, the number of oocytes per gram, eggs fertilization ratio, hatching ratio and feed conversion ratio. The article discusses the research data of 15 beluga females in cage conditions and 10 beluga females in ponds. A simplified scheme was adopted in economic calculations, in which it is assumed that feed is a half of the total cost. The results obtained indicate that the profitability of the products obtained from beluga females in cages is an order of magnitude higher than from females in ponds. It was found that the sale of seed production is more profitable than the caviar sales.

Abstract New types of fish farms are often larger and structurally more complex than conventional fish farming structures, and associated challenges concerning safety and costs increase correspondingly. Thus, increased precision in structural design is required, with estimation of hydrodynamic loads on nets as an important topic. Today, both load coefficients for nets and measured netting dimensions are given with relatively high uncertainties. New knowledge for netting materials with high solidities as well as scaled netting commonly applied in model tests are included in the presented study. Results from towing tests and the development of a new mathematical expression for local drag coefficients (for netting twines) indicate that drag coefficients are not only dependent on solidity and Reynolds number, but may also be affected by the velocity reduction and the local velocity at the twines.

The present study was based on primary data collected from 100 farmers in Gulbarga district of Karnataka, India, during the agricultural year 2013-2014. Study shows that average land holding size of pigeonpea seed farmers was higher in comparison to grain farmers and district average. The study illustrates a ratio of 32 : 68 towards fixed and variable costs in pigeonpea certified seed production with a total cost of₹39436 and the gross and net returns were₹73300 and₹33864 per hectare, respectively. The total cost of cultivation, gross return, and net return in pigeonpea seed production were higher by around 23, 32, and 44 percent than grain production, respectively. Hence, production of certified seed has resulted in a win-win situation for the farmers with higher yield and increased returns. The decision of the farmer on adoption of seed production technology was positively influenced by his education, age, land holding, irrigated land, number of crops grown, and extension contacts while family size was influencing negatively. Higher yield and profitability associated with seed production can be effectively popularized among farmers, resulting in increased certified seed production.

Setiap unit percobaan ditebar sebanyak 10.000 ekor benih ikan. The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of locally-produced and commercial feeds on the growth of Srikandi tilapia cultured in fish farming areas of Brebes Regency, Central Java. Tilapia Srikandi were cultured in three ponds sized approximately ± 3,000 m2. Each pond was divided into two sections divided by a net, which resulted in six experimental plots. Each experimental plot was stocked with 10,000 fish seeds. Srikandi tilapia were maintained for four months and given daily feed as much as 1%-2% of body weight with feeding time at 07.00, 12.00, and 17.00. The fish were given test feeds in the 1st and 2nd month as much as 1% of body weight. The feeding level was increased to 2% in the 3rd and 4th months. The performances of Srikandi tilapia (growth, growth rate, and survival) fed with the two feed types were tested using the T-test. The results showed that there was no statistically significant difference on growth performance between fish fed with locally-produced feed and commercial feed (P>0.05). The total harvest of Srikandi tilapia fed with the locally produced feed reached 2,214 ± 172.69 kg and 2,248.5 ± 234.85 kg for the commercial feed. This study suggests that in terms of economic efficiency, the use of the locally-produced feed in Srikandi tilapia farming is more profitable compared to the use of commercial feed.
